We took the wildwood trail which was about a five mile hike both ways. It was a nice trail by a stream and cool even in the summer heat. You can drive up to the mansion as well. The grounds were beautiful and the house was amazing on the outside. It was closed on the day we went but I would go back again for the tour. It is nice to sit in the garden and take in the view of the city. Hike or drive both are fun for the day!

This is a very beautiful place overlooking the city. Great place for pictures or weddings. Also a neat old building to look through with lots of art and antique furniture. Lock your car though! The neighborhood isn't the best. Nice picnic area and outdoor restrooms if you are there after hours too.

This gorgous mansion in NW Portland is a neat place to take the family for a visit to get a glimpse into what life was like in Portland around the turn of the last century.
The grounds are really nice and wonderful to wander around in - they have great views of the city as well as the different mountains.
You have to pay admission to tour the actual house, so it's not something you'll probably want to do on every visit (the grounds are free!), but it's worth a tour at least one. Henry Pittock was the owner of the Oregonian, so he lived a nice lifestyle to say the least and the house reflects that.
In the winter months, it's a little chilly to stroll around the grounds, but they decorate the house beautifully and that is something the kids really enjoy - very festive and holiday looking!

This approximately 100 year-old mansion offers probably the best views in the NW section of Portland. Situated at 900 feet elevation and surrounded by hiking trails, on a clear day you have a panoramic view of the city framed by Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier, Mt Hood, and Mt. Adams. You can wander the grounds for free, but a tour of the mansion itself -- once owned by the publisher of The Oregonian newspaper shortly before his death-- is $6 for adults.

Pittock Mansion in Portland is a great historical place to visit. The Mansion is beautiful and restored to its original dcor. There are three out of the four floors you can explore, be sure to have some time set aside as it is very interesting. There is a fee to tour the mansion. The view from their grounds is beautiful and it is a nice place to spend some time.

This place is pretty cool, to hang out on an easy day. Refurnished like the orginal establishment of the Pittock family, you get to walk around in an old-fashioned house belonging to the founders of the Oregonian, and the many travelling paths in Washington Park. There is a quaint little gift shop outside, and admission is only $5. If you are interested in the history of Portland, and you like huge houses, you should visit this one.
PROS: cheap, interesting, beautiful, decorated on the holidays
CONS: not as big as you think it will be.

I have not been here in a few years, but I still remeber how wonderful this place is! If you are ever in the West Hills and have some free time, do check it out! Henery Pittock, he founded the Oregonian, built this wonderful home in the early 1900's. It is a combonation of many different styles. Very unique and wonderful to explore!

Don't forget to bring a camera when going to marvel in the beauty and history of Pittock Mansion. Symbolizing the growth of Portland, the estate houses antique furnishings and fine arts and provides a sweeping view of the city itself. The front desk clerk is kind and informative. It's a bit spendy admission but well worth ONE trip through.

The Pittock Mansion is a must-see for tourists. The lovely mansion sits atop the west hills with a wonderful view of downtown Portland, Mount St. Helens and Mt. Hood. Tours are available and there is a small gift shop on the grounds. During the Christmas season, the house is decorated with a different theme and it is great fun to tour and see the creativity.

CONS: parking is limited
