I agree entirely with the post before mine. the mac club is an experience, which i am proud to contribute to. my family (4 including myself) have been members for roughly ten years. when i graduated highschool and became a "senior member" the mac made it very smooth. because the mac allows members through a lottery, they wanted to keep you as a member by allowing a temporary (unil the age of i believe 21 or 23) discount. i live in sherwood and i could certianly find a membership at a dozen other places nearby, but nowhere offers the community i feel there, and the many ammenites they have there. where in teh same building can you go work out outside (asuming there is nice weather) on a balcony, watch a game at pge park, get your hair done, go out to eat work in the study in the same building? on another note, all the equipment is regularly replaced. it was the most impressive treadmills i have ever seen. there is a reason they allow only by lottery. there are already so many members, you have to wait for months for a locker contract to end, and to be assigned a locker. the lottey doesn't discriminate. i know of many very well established families in the portland metro area who have been tured down. it is hands down the best athletic club i have ever been too, and will remain a member for my entire life.

Pros: everything, family friendly place

Cons: it's far away from where i live--but worth it

Unlike the previous reviewer who seems to think the MAC should let everyone in, those of us in the club know the only reason it doesn't is because it already has 20,000 members. Why, you might ask? Because it is the best atheltic club in the city, with the best staff and the best facilities and is one of the top clubs around the country. Long live the MAC!

The Multnomah Athletic Club has amazing facilities and a wonderful staff. I have taken many classes there throughout my childhood and into adulthood. I cannot be more pleased with the instruction I have received and the professionalism from the instructors.

The only drawback I see to the MAC is it is hard to get in. I know they recently had a lottery and they are only taking a few of those winner at a time. While the cost is high, I think this club is worth it. Having grown up with the MAC, I hope my child will have the same experience I had there as well and continue on with a membership through adulthood.

PROS: Facilities, Instructors, Clean
CONS: Difficult to get in

As I like to do everything I possibly can online (avoid that human contact at all costs!), I was somewhat put off by the MAC's Web site, which gives no information whatsoever: no pictures, no information on dues, nothing about what the club offers. I called the club, took a tour, and ultimately joined, because quite frankly, it's the nicest athletic club I visited in a great location. The facility is big beautiful, with amenities galore: three weight rooms, three indoor pools, seven indoor tennis courts, on-site shopping, spa, hair salon, and plenty of parking. The equipment is top of the line and brand new. It's crowded at peak times (early mornings and evenings), but never so much so that it's impossible to work out. I've seen a number of famous people (by Portland standards) here, which is a novelty. They offer a generous reciprocal agreement with other great athletic clubs in the country (I spend a lot of time in Seattle and can go to the WAC as part of my MAC membership). There are a lot of special events here, including dinners, parties, etc. I'm really happy I joined the MAC.

PROS: Top-notch facility
CONS: Expensive
