I had a lunch at Kame last week. I had this tempura donburi special for $10. Nice portion. Great flavor. They only use soybean oil. Not greasy at all. I'm at retirement age, and I try to eat healthy. I think Kame is one of the best choice

I recently went to Murata and Hiro place in Portland. They were wonderful, but I think Kame is better. Kame has both Murata and Hiro at one place. Great sushi and great hot items. \r

I had a great sushi at Kame. I just asked sushi guy to make me a special roll, he came up with something extraordinary. He uses regular sushi items but his creativity make a huuuuge difference. Go to Kame and ask for a special roll.

Coming from Hawaii, where we prize good sushi, this restaurant is where I go for a taste of home and never hesitate to recommend Kame's to visiting friends and family. So if you'e in the McMinnville area and craving sushi, then this is the place to go to! They have a great selection to choose from. I have friends who really are into the whole raw fish thing, so for those who aren't as adventurous, Kame's also has great dinners like tempura or dons to choose from.

This restaurant is such a hot spot to eat in town that it's often crowed for dinners, and so there are times when service can be slow. However once you get your food, it is completely worth the wait!

Pros: Great authentic sushi

Cons: Price, the wait

We really like this restaurant! They have great food and good atmosphere. The downside is that you will wait a long time to get your food as they are often under staffed.

WARNING: If you know good sushi and good service, DO NOT GO TO KAME.

If you want to be charged for less than average sushi and served by a rude waitress who knows nothing about wine (remember this is wine country) and sushi, go to Kame. The waitress who obviously seemed like the daughter of the owner (from conversation overheard with the table next to us), was so rude that we felt pitty for her. Really, you shouldn't work in a restaurant with such bad manners. Of course, if you are a local who they've seen before, you will be treated differently. Actually, they may even drool all over you. Their mistake, assuming that we weren't local and that other locals (whom they probably know) were the ones that recommended us to go to Kame. BUT, that shouldn't matter! Whether we are locals or people stopping by in from Portland... it SHOULDN'T MATTER. Everyone deserves to be treated well.

ALL you Oregonians or visitors visitng the area (for wine tasting or whatever else reason), if you ask for recommendations in the area, you may hear the name Kame. Trust me, don't go there. Locals recommend it because they do get treated well IF they know you. However, the sushi is horrible. I honestly have to say, the sushi I get from the grocery store is better. The slices of fish are so thin, that you can see through it. Not kidding! Also, if you want fresh fish - you're better off eating frozen fish. Having had some of the best sushi all over the world, I put this on the list for the worst. I just don't get the other raving reviews, except to wonder if they wrote it themselves or were written by people they know.

If you feel like this is not enough warning, then I guess you can go experience it for yourself. But, you will be disappointed. Yes, there aren't as many dining choices out there in McMinnville than in Portland - perhaps this is why Kame thinks they can get away with poor service and not so great sushi - since they don't have competition out there. But, you do have other choices - go to Hotel Oregon, Golden Valley Brewery, La Rambla.... anywhere but Kame! You WILL have a much nicer experience.

Pros: wall paint color

Cons: bad sushi, bad service

I was pleasantly surprised when my wife and I first dined at Kame. The interior is very small and the decor ecclectic at best, but the Susho shines. While they do not have a large selection of different types of fish, the items they do have are impeccably fresh and delicious. Try the Hamachi and Maguro. The chef also brings in fresh seasonal fish when available, such as Toro (fatty tuna). Another plus at Kame is you can order 1 piece of Sushi, instead of a pair. Kame uses snow crab for all their rolls and nigiri. No imitation crab here! They carry traditional Japanese fare as well, all of it delicious and well-prepared. If you're a sake fan, you may purchase a bottle of Sake, and Kame will pour and store it for you. A free public parking lot directly across the street makes for easy parking.

Pros: Excellent Sushi, Good Service, Reasonable Prices

Cons: Small - but cozy

.

Kame has the most delicious cuisine that the small town of McMinnville has to offer. The atmosphere is authentic and very quiet. It is a great place to take a date, but also suitable for a family occasion. The menu has a all kinds of great stuff. If you enjoy sushi, the "Bob Roll" is a must have. The gyoza is a great appetizer as a well and they always keep the green tea coming. The shrimp tempura is great and so is the california rolls. I would eat at Kame every night if I could!

We wanted to go somewhere cozy and romantic for our wedding anniversary, but leaving it to the last minute most of the fancy restaurants were closed out here, so we opted to try Japanese food. Kame Japanese Restaurant exceeded our expectations for a little place tucked away on a side street in downtown McMinnville! Very authentic and absolutely delicious, we highly recommend Kame to anyone in the area. Our appetizers were fresh, handmade, no eggrolls from the freezer here. My husband had sushi and enjoyed it - we saw them making it at the small sushi bar located inside the restaurant. Our meals were delicious (can't remember exactly what we had) and the restaurant was almost completely full on a weeknight. Our service was good too and seemed knowledgeable. If you're in McMinnville and want something much better than teriyaki, you've got to check out Kame - only opened some days of the week for lunch and dinner. Worth the wait!

PROS: Food, service, sushi, authenticity
CONS: Hours
