I live near Linwood, so when my rats got old and sick I took them in when they needed euthanasia. The service was always so-so, but when I took in my 3rd rat, I filled out the papers and clearly stated I wanted to be present during my rat's death. They give the injection in the back and then bring the pet back out for its last moments--usually. This time the vet disappeared into the back with my rat AND DIDN'T COME BACK. After 15 min. she walked past and was surprised to see me. She stared, then said, ""I'll be right back."" She must have checked the paperwork, because she returned and told me she had already euthanized Agnes, that she had been unaware it was my wish to be with her even though it was ON THE PAPERWORK. I was furious, but couldn't say anything, I was so upset. They charged me twice the amount they had the previous 2 times I had my rats euthanized (the last one just a week prior). I was LIVID, but paid and left until I could calm down. I called the owner of the clinic, who refunded me half the amount paid but defended the vet, claiming she was new and ""doesn't yet know all of our policies."" Understanding the owner wants to be present during euthanasia seems pretty important, regardless of the length of employment! The owner apologized, but that was it. I told her I would no longer use them for vet care. That was 2 years ago (2009).\n\nThen last month: while out walking, I witnessed a dog attack a kitten. I chased the dog off, but the kitten was injured. I rushed her to Linwood, the closest vet. Once I got there, they examined her BUT DID NOT TAKE ANY MEASURES TO SAVE HER. They said I would have to take responsibility for her bill or they would euthanize her as a stray. This was not my kitten, but I agreed to pay if they would just try to help her. They said she was in bad shape and they would need $500 to even start doing anything. I had just paid rent and didn't have it, so I told them to please start saving her and I would pay upon her discharge, as it was clear she wouldn't be able to leave for some time. They said no. They wouldn't even give her liquids or pain meds until I paid. I told them give me 2 days and I would pay the $500 and more. I have friends and family who work in rescues and shelters and I knew I could pull together a fund to help w/ the bill, but Linwood REFUSED TO SAVE THE KITTEN without the money immediately. I do not keep credit cards, I did not have my phone w/ me as I had rushed straight to the clinic w/o going home, so I couldn't call anyone to help me w/ the bill. The kitten was so badly injured she wouldn't survive the trip to my regular vet. When I got upset that they wouldn't do anything, they told me that no vet would treat the kitten w/o money up front. THIS IS A LIE. I later called my regular vet and 4 others in Portland and ALL said they do emergency care FIRST and worry about the bill later. After arguing w/ the vets, I eventually had to abandon the kitten to euthanasia. I didn't want her to suffer on the way to a different vet, as she was unlikely to survive the trip. Better to be out of pain quickly. I will ALWAYS discourage people from going here. They will not work w/ owners/samaritans to save an animal's life. I would have paid the entire bill if they had given me TWO DAYS, hell ONE DAY, to get the funds together from my network of rescue and shelter friends. \n\nPLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS CORRUPT CLINIC ANY OF YOUR MONEY and do not trust them with the lives of your pets! They only want your money, not your trust or respect.

I am rating this business in between at 3 only because of the front desk staff and slightly "unsociable" nature of the vet tech.I found the vet, Dr. Cain, to always be nice though and extremely caring. She is worth putting up with some stuff.I don't trust many vets, but she is good. I would have gone there many years sooner if the front desk hadn't turned away charitable funding. Not the point though. The main thing is that I planned to pay my bill. We were all upset (2 kids involved) and during crying,my husband was asked about the bill during "euthanasia." I didn't like hearing that.I had a coupon issue, but I know they will honor it with refund by check/credit. I think it is fairly easy to locate Linwood though and "Companion Pet Clinic" is a bad clinic--it doesn't stack up at all to Linwood. However, I wasn't there so I can't say about how a person felt.I will continue to go here provided the refund of $10 is issued and they acknowledge that asking for money in that way is not ok. Otherwise, 4 to 5 stars would have been given. I am an established patient too.I sent others there also.

My dog has been having ear problems for several months now and I have taken him to Linwood repeatedly. The doctor would always tell us it was an ear infection, give us drops and pills and send him home. During our third visit in 2 or 3 months (and about $800+ in charges), we asked the vet to properly clean his ear and take a culture of the bacteria so that we could find a long term solution to the problem. They informed us that it was going to cost an additional $500+ because they had to sedate him and keep him for a while, etc. This was on top of the $347 in office visit and meds already accrued in this visit (and the $800 previous). I told them that I could not afford the additional treatments and would have to wait a little while. Upon checking out, the clerk at the front informed me of the $347 bill that needed to be paid. I had forgotten my debit card and did not have that much cash. My dad came by and gave them $150 cash and made arrangements to come back the next morning to pay the remainder. Later that afternoon, a man from the office called me yelling about my unpaid balance and how I was trying to stiff them. Keep in mind that I had been bringing my dog to this clinic for 3 or 4 years and had ALWAYS paid my bill. I tried to explain to the gentleman that I had made arrangements and he called me a deadbeat and threatened that I ""had better pay my bill, or else,"" then hung up. I phoned back and informed them that I would never bring my animals back.

LOVED IT. took my small dog here when he got sick (at 7 weeks). Was a frequent visitor for a while. They knew my dog by name after the first visit. Friendly staff, knowledgeable doctors. Doctor even called me at home to see how he was doing. Didn't push any tests, stated facts, and let me decide. Recommended cheaper ways to do things. Now its time I get him neutered... called around to 2 other places, both cheaper, but in the end I was so impressed with the service and people, I will pay the higher price and still continue at Linwood Animal Clinic. BTW i found it easy to find even though I had never been to that area before.

Great animal medicine. Dr Cain is very compassionate. I have always been pleased with the level of care they have provided to my pets. I was able to get an appointment right away when there was an urgent medical need.

Dr Cain is the focal Veterinarian for Babe's healthcare: She works well with other providers when Babe requires colaborative treatment, such as specialized surgery for a torn ACL ligament. In May Babe developed a rare cancer, (Histiocytic Sarcoma) usually found only in the Bernese Mountain dog. Now other breeds are afflicted. Environmental toxins appear to play a role. This cancer has no known cure.\r\n\r\nI needed immediate help to assure the best quality of life for Babe while conducting an exhautive search for a qualified replacement. This required many hours of consultation over several months and most of all the services of a WIDELY RESPECTED veterinarian who could work well with other professionals while advocating for the best healthcare of BOTH dogs. \r\n\r\nAfter treatment with an experimental chemotherapy Babe is expected to live into the new year. In fact she has become one of a handful of dogs with this cancer to survive beyond 6 months. Nobody can guarantee her longevity, but I do know this outcome would not have been possible without the extended efforts of Dr Cain and the staff at her clinic. \r\n\r\nTheir work made it possible to provide the very best healthcare for both of my dogs at a time when our relationship is measured one day at a time. That precious time allowed Babe and Margaret, her trainee, to grow close to one another. Babe has transferred much of her unique discipline and companion-focused medical awareness to this young dog.\r\n This has become a miracle of possibility for them both. A miracle that required special needs met in a very conscientious and committed way. I have 34 years experience working with dogs. It is rare to find Veterinarians willing to invest so much of their professional and personal time. You can't buy or measure that kind of service, not only because love for a companion animal is involved, but also because my own life and future well being hangs in the balance.\r\nChristopher Kliks

Whatever you do DON'T go to Linwood Animal Clinic!! They will charge you for things that are way to over priced and not let you know the price until you are leaving. We waited over 45 minutes in the room with my puppy freaking out while the doctor was talking to her someone on the phone about what is for dinner! UNACCEPTABLE!!\r\n\r\nSo now I have switched vets and am much happier!

The reception staff was a little....cold? They seemed nice enough, but did not engage me right away when I walked in, even though they were not helping any patients. I was just getting routine vaccinations for my dog, and I felt sort of hurried out. I didn't see the main vet, just a technician, and she was very friendly and nice. I tried to ask about some of my concerns with my dog, but again, I felt a little hurried out the door. The facilities were nice and clean, though, and I would go again.

I was very impressed witth their customer service, or should I say bedside manner? Very straightforward, caring, and informational. My dog is 13, and I have to say, this is the best veterinary experience I've had (and maybe he'd agree!)

PROS: friendly, straightforward
CONS:

I took my dog in for a first visit pet exam and felt that the Vet was fairly helpful and knowledgeable about her profession. I feel the 'bedside' manner could have been better and maybe more information and/or resources could have been given. Prices are not too bad, but not as good as if you go to a 'Companion Pet' clinic. I guess you usually pay for your services. Location is a bit hard to find too. A small business on the corner of an intersection (which helps) just keep your eyes peeled for small sign. Front desk customer service was ok too.
