The Retreat Spa & Salon is a great place with reasonable prices and great staff.
I have been consistently getting my hair done here for the past three years and have never been disappointed. My hair has been dyed brown, blonde, mutli-funky colored, and simply cut. If something doesnt look how you wanted it too, they'll fix it. Also, one thing I love that I feel has been lost in many salons, is the staff offering their input on your hair. Everytime I come in, I have an idea of what I want but check with to see if it will work and ask if they have an ideas that might look better.
I have also gotten a few mystic tans here. My first time, the friendly staff told me how the machine worked, where everything was, and gave me suggestions for how to make sure to get the best, most even tan.
I would highly recommend The Retreat to anyone looking for a nice day of looking good, relaxing, and having a fun time.

Peggy and I went to beauty college together, my life took a different direction, but I still go to Peggy for all my hair needs! I also brought my wedding party and family in to get pedicures and nails done. We all had a great time!! Everytime I visit the Retreat I feel relaxed and always among friends. I can't wait to come in for a Prenatal Massage!! Thank you to The Retreat for being so great!!

I go to The Retreat about every 8 weeks for cut/color with Peggy. I first met Peggy through my mom, when she was living in Philomath. As a teacher supporting my husband through law school, I don't have a lot of "luxury money" to spend on myself. I make sure to set aside money to spend at The Retreat for a couple of reasons:
1. Peggy's personal service is PHENOMENAL. She respects when you want to chat, as well as when you want to be quiet. She's an avid reader, so ask her for some recommendations!
2. I love that the color they use is low on ammonia. It seems to last just as long, and the hues are great. Peggy and I have found great ways to complement and play with my natural tones.
3. Time seems to quietly pass by. I never feel rushed or overwhelmed at The Retreat. There's definitely personal attention.
4. My appointments happen when they're supposed to happen. That's a joy!
5. I like that they call and confirm my appointments the day before.
If you're looking for a quick "in-n-out" experience, this may not be your place for hair care, but I believe the time spent there is a good time to focus on YOU!

I only go to Valerie for my haircut & color. She's awesome. I had a wonderful pedi there & look forward to doing the other spa things. They also have great product selections so I buy my shampoo & such there as well. Love this place!!

Heather is the most amazing hair stylist ever so of course I followed her from her previous salon to the Retreat. At first I was a little sad because her new gig was more pricey, but the atmosphere is worth it! I love coming to the Retreat because it's like a little vacation from my every day routine. I have also noticed the positive changes in the front desk staff recently. I am always greeted right away and offered a drink while I wait for my appointment. You can always find me at The Retreat every 6-8 weeks!! ;) i love you girls!!

I've been seeing Laura for my monthly wax for over a year now. She is always so friendly and professional, and she does excellent work. I always get a friendly greeting when I walk in the door, and the atmosphere is inviting and relaxing. I definitely would, and I do, recommend The Retreat to my friends, and have both given and received gift cards as wonderful gifts!

I love the Retreat..The staff is always very hepful and considerate. Lisa has been doing my hair for 2 years now and she is great. She is very consistant and always has a great attitude. I can always count on her to bring my spirits up. I have also had my nails done, facials, massages and waxing. I have always had a great experience at the Retreat. I have recommended numerous people to the Retreat and will continue to do so.
Oh, and you can also order food or beverage while getting your services done, or just stop by for lunch anytime. Check it out....It's a great place.

I have been going to Peggy to have my hair done now for about four years and you can actually see when I started by looking at our family photos, she does great work! I have also had a couple pedicures by Audrey and they have been fantastic. I have not noticed any problems at the desk during check in.

I have been going to the Retreat since 2006 and have been a client of Heather Mitchell's. I had a horrible experience prior to the Retreat and Heather fixed my hair and gave me the best cut and style I have ever had. My hair is very thick and fine and Heather has always been able to help me work with my hair and give me a style that is trendy, but suits my face shape - but most importantly that I can actually do myself at home. All of the products she has recommended work very well. She's a fantastic, positive person and the best stylist I have ever had! I could not recommend her more highly.
I have had other services at the Retreat and have been happy for the most part. If I did have a problem it was fixed and not at my expense, but for the amounts charged there really shouldn't be a problem in my opinion. The owners are also very approachable with issues like those mentioned in other reviews below. I have had the same issue as Jennifer D. and some others to do with the staff at the counter and those hanging around the counter, but after speaking with the owner, I did notice a change. (They can be very rude and make you feel like an inconvenience when you stand and wait to check in and interupt their conversations). I would not recommend Richard to anyone as my husband and 2 friends had him and now won't return to the Retreat after their negative experiences.
Bottom line... if there's a problem talk to the owners as they are very approachable - be proactive about getting the experience you're paying for. You shouldn't have to say anything, but if you've ever managed anything you'd know you can't be everywhere all the time so it takes people speaking up to help you see the problems and have a chance to fix it. Nothing anyone does will stop me from having Heather be my stylist - she's worth it and quite frankly so am I !!!

I have been visiting The Retreat for over a year now and have specifically worked with Rebecca since she arrived at the salon. Rebecca makes the experience the most relaxing and I always look forward to visiting. I leave the salon every time with a sense of peace and my hair always looks amazing. Rebecca is very down to earth and I know my time with her will be a soothing and relaxing experience. She always makes me her first priority and I always get her undivided attention. I can't rave enough about her!
The service at the salon is always professional and top notch. I am constantly recommending friends to stop by and give the salon a try. Thanks for all you do and a special thanks to Rebecca for the many years she has been working with me.

My experience at The Retreat has been good. At times I felt like some of the staff was being nice because they had to, not because they genuinely cared, but I have also had some experiences that were genuine. I have had a manicure and pedicure when I was 9 months pregnant that was enjoyable and my haircuts and waxings have always turned out great. I understand that it is difficult to work with so many people and be transparent with all of them, but for the customer who is paying quite a bit of money for quality service and a spa experience, it feels good to feel like you are getting pampered and the people involved really care about you, not just your money. I would recommend this salon for a quality service, but I would caution some of my friends about the environment.

I love the Retreat and have been a long time customer, enjoying numerous services from hair to nails to waxing and awesome, quality products. I like to try new things with with my cut/color and on a few occasions, my result wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I have ALWAYS been able to return to the salon and get it fixed - until I was happy and loved the result. The entire staff truly cares about how you look/feel and goes out of their way to make your appt a luxury experience. Hands down the best spa/salon around and one I will continue to enjoy and highly recommend! My advice to anyone who is anxious about a service (regardless of the service) just let them know! Talk to the receptionist, talk to your stylist ... they will take good care of you and you won't regret it! ;)

I am fifty six years old and have come into the Retreat several times. I haven't been in since January as I broke my foot and was off work for several weeks, couldn't get out much ya know. I would like to say that Lisa is who has done my waxing and brow tint and I adore her. I almost was not going to come back because the girls up front to throw out a cold feeling like if you aren't dressed right, are overweight they don't reflect warmth and friendliness. I have sat and waited for my appointment and watched them with other clients. Cute, young, stylish gals get the nice treatment. Those less fortunate get the cold shoulder and then when they walk away are talked about. It makes me quite sad to see this in a business of high quality or for that matter anywhere. Anyway, kudos to Lisa.

I went to The Retreat after finding the website, HUGE mistake. I also agree that the receptionist staff is horribly rude. I went for a gel fill and the lady did an atrocious job. 9 of my fingers were bleeding, no two nails were the same length, and they were very strangely colored. When I first noticed that some were very poorly shaped, I very politely asked her to fix one, and she threw her arms up in the hair and sighed!! While my fingers were in the UV light, she left the table, and when I finally got up from the table (2 hours!!) with my HORRIBLE nails, I found that she had added a tip to my bill! I did not leave an additional tip and the receptionist scowled at me while I was finishing my transaction. I was in shock that they even made me pay for such a horrible job.

I got my first bikini wax at The Retreat. I was scared but the woman who did it was absolutely wonderful and calmed me down. I'm not gonna lie and say bikini waxes are my most favorite thing ever, but I think my experience was about as good as it could have been!

went to get a cut and color and the woman i saw didnt have the time to really make sure my color was as good as it should be. when i left the salon, i was very satisfied with the overall color, but not the fact that my roots were lighter than the rest of my hair. some parts of the underside of my hair were also a little lighter. i ended up having to pay 101 dollars (!) for something i wasn't completely satisfied with and the color is fading extremely fast. i've even been careful about how often i wash it. I would go back and have her redo it, but i don't want to (and really can't) pay the 65 dollars i would get charged for it. the lady was really nice and helpful, i just wish she had more time. she was aware of the lighter roots, etc. and told me to call if i ended up being dissatisfied.. i'm thinking about it, just don't want to pay all over again. :-(

Unfortunately I have to agree with what I've heard and the reviews I've read when it comes to the people in the front of the house. I moved back to Corvallis recently and began that dreaded search for a new hairstylist. I decided to give The Retreat a try and was given Kristin for my first appointment. She was and is consistently a great stylist. I have been completely happy each and every time I've been in. I cannot say enough good things about her and I will continue to visit her despite the terribly poor service I receive when I check in. I must say in reading the reviews Kim Taylor deserves to be commended for caring enough about her salon to write back to each of them. As I read through I noticed she always asks the person giving the unflattering review to call her and she will make it right. That says something and I respect that kind of dedication. It is however a shame that nothing seems to be being done about the horrible service that is given by the girls working at the reception desk. I cannot recall a time when I have checked in that I've been greeted with a smile or talked to in a friendly manner. Kristin always comes to get me quickly but during the few minutes I wait I always see it happen to others as well. It is a shame that there are so many great stylist, like Kristin, who could be passed over due this fact. It is unfortunate that they have not either been trained in how to treat people respectfully and how to appear to be pleasant people or been replaced. I am visiting the shop again today and am hoping for the best. Thanks for reading, hope this helps..

I have had several treatments at this spa and my service has progressively declined. At my last facial, I arrived on time to a desk of rude receptionists. I then had to wait 15 minutes for my scheduled appointment and was told it was due to poor planning on their part. When the facial was over, I was left with greasy skin, arms, and hands and grit in my hairline. All I wanted to do was take a shower to wash it off. My facial also ended 10 minutes early. I won't be visiting this spa again.

The Mystic Tan is one of my favorite addictions, I love Heather for my hair, Laura does amazing facials, and if I ever get the courage I'll get a bikini wax because everyone says Laura is the wax Queen. I love everyone here because they are so easy to deal with and laid back. It's also nice that they all seem to get along; at my old salon everyone seemed to hate each other.

I went to the Retreat because they did a fabulous make over on my friend's hair! I was NOT disappointed at all with my stylist, however be aware and ask what the actual cost of your service will be. The cut was pricey, but well worth it and I will go back! I give my stylist - 5 STARS!!!
The gals at reception were snobby when I walked in, however seemed to be nice when I left my stylist a generous tip. If I had to tip based on my service from the moment I walked in the door, I wouldn't have been as generous. But my stylist should not suffer for the snooty attitude of the gals who answer the phone and take payments. Hopefully they realize when they're ready to move to styling what first impression a salon makes by the gals who greet their stylists clients. Just because you work at a spa doesn't mean you have to have a "I'm better than the rest of you" attitude. Remember, the clients keep your jobs in place. I give the Retreat reception gals - 0 stars.

I have been getting laser hair removal with Laura for several months now and I love not having to shave. This will be my first summer without a razor! Laura is so sweet and has guided me through each stage of the process. She always takes her time with me and is very knowledgeable. I should mention I've had other great services too, but the laser is my favorite.

I would never go to this place for a haircut or color. Massage is a different story.
Their reception staff is very rude and treated me with great disrespect. possibly because I was wearing jeans. What they did not know is that if I would have been treated well I tip more than what my haircut cost is. I didn't leave a tip at all and my haircut was shorter than was supposed to be and my highlights were ORANGE! The worst part was that no one is considerate and when she was cutting my hair she gave me bangs when I did not want them.

I started going to The Retreat for the tanning; I like mystic tans. But, then I started getting pedicures and having my hair done there. I've seen a couple of people for my hair because the person I started with had a baby, but so far it's always been perfect!

I love the retreat! I go at least once a month for my hair or nails. I also get all of my waxing done there. It's nice to go somewhere where everyone remembers who I am when I come in. I've never noticed any snotty attitude, and I've seen plenty of other college students in sweats or jeans being treated very nicely. I've been to a lot of salons and none compare to the retreat. I will miss it when I graduate and move away!

My mother and I went to this salon to have our hair done. We supposedly had the most experienced stylists doing our hair but my highlights turned out orange. I asked to have them darkened and the stylist tried unsuccessfully. I ended up having to go to another salon to get my color repaired.
To top it off my mothers cut was awful. One side was a lot longer than the other. She went back to have it re-shaped and again it turned out the sides were two differentt lengths. It was as if the stylist did not care that she had given a bad cut to begin with. I am very disappointed with this salon.

I had scheduled a massage and pedicure at the Retreat. I checked in and proceeded to wait for over 30 minutes. I questioned the receptionist twice about what the hold up was and received extremely rude responses. After 30 minutes I asked to see the manager and when she inquired what the problem was the girls at the desk told her that I didn't "look like a client". Apparently jeans and a T-shirt are unacceptable attire in this locale. I hope this was a fluke and scheduled an up-do for a formal event about a month later. Again a 45 minute wait, they'd scheduled a walk-in over my appointment. They refused to offer any discount or apologies for their behavior. The services they offer are fairly good, their masseuse is AMAZING but it's not worth dealing with their reception staff. I feel insulted just walking in the door. You're paying them (well) for a service, they're not doing you a favor.
PROS: Amazing Masseuse
CONS: Reception staff and over all attitude.

I am a 24-year old just entering a new career, and I decided that my look needed an update. I went and had my eyebrows waxed, (something I had never done before,) and they were incredibly quick, kind, and professional. My brows look really natural, and I'm planning on heading back with my mom to get a pedi-mani, facial, haircut and color soon!
I did a little looking around first, and they seem to be just a right about average for the Corvallis area in terms of overall pricing. Some is a little higher, but the waxing was only 10.00- it seems like their packages are about right too.
Thanks!
PROS: Beautiful building
CONS: Seemed a little busy

I had no idea about this place until I received a gift certificate from my boss for completing a job ahead of time and saving my company a lot of money. I had a fabulous day there, I could have stayed all day and night and be pampered like that! I recommend it for everyone, it is a cool place to recharge your batteries!

I have never had such a relaxing day in my life. I got a gift certificate for a few different services here and was nothing but impressed. The ladies here were not judgemental about the fact that I had never been to s spa. They answered all my questions and concerns no matter how silly they might have been. Now I always suggest gift certificates to The Retreat for occasions such as Mothers Day.

If you are looking for a place to go relax and get "worked"on, the Retreat is the place for you. They offer a variety of services from haircuts, to manicures, to massages. They also offer paid childcare, although the hours for that are slim. When it comes to some of the basic services, I found them to be a little overpriced, but for a massage, for example, they were right on the money. The massage was great by the way.
