A few friends and I made a special trip from SW to Vino in SE because we have heard good things from frequenters. They have a nice selection of local PNW wines, some hard to find boutique wines, as well as a great variety of old world yummy wines. Unfortunately, the prices are not super competitive, as I can find some of the wines for less money at New Seasons or Wild Oats...and buying wine is my big vice so paying less for a large purchase is important to me. However, they have a few hard to find wines...so I don't mind paying a bit extra on the occasion to avoid driving to wine country or paying on-line shipping & risking weather damage. Per the previous reviewer, we must have stumbled onto one of his "moody" days. That's not usually acceptable, but I was willing to over look it and give it another try because he had some wines that I couldn't find elsewhere. By the way, on that first visit, I purchased a few hundred clams worth of vino, as did my friends, to stock our little wine cellars. Upon a second visit, I was alone. I don't expect to be remembered for being a one time customer, but I was shocked that the owner did not make eye contact or offer a tasting of a Saturday pour, especially because I was particularly interested in tasting one of the wines & picking up some if I liked it. So, I had to ASK for a taste. I politely asked a few questions, such as had he tried the previous vintages & what did he think (as I had a small vertical growing) & apparently I offended him. Anyway, even though they have some hard to find wines, I doubt I would go back except on the rare whim, as the prices are higher than many other retail shops....and the attitude is odd for a business.

Pros: Wine Selection, rare/hard to fine boutique wines, quaint neighborhood shop.

Cons: higher than regular retail prices & bad attitude from staff/owner.

Vino is a small wine shop located in Sellwood. The shop has a great hand picked selection of wines. The Friday night wine tastings are always well thought out and it's like attending a party. If you are new to Vino's tastings, I recommend that you take a seat at one of the large tables where you'll be sure to meet fun loving, interesting people. On Saturday (when open) there is always a nice selection of free wine tastings. A word of caution: The proprietor can be moody, one day he'll chat you up - the next day you'd think you are invisible or that you might be bothering him for stopping in. But don't take it personally because when the wind changes he might just turn nice again. Plus, the wine selection is stellar.
