I didn't love the food I got here and it took a very, very long time to arrive at the table. I haven't been back, so maybe it was just a bad day.

I love Mexican food, and this little restaurant does not disappoint me. I particularly love the ambiance it is relaxed and fun to spend time eating there.

This is a WONDERFUL Mexican restaurant! Whenever people from out of town come to visit I always take them to Acapulco Southwest Gold! The food is flavorful and served quickly. The service is friendly and efficient. The atmosphere makes it a wonderful dining experience. I love all the pinatas hanging from the ceiling and the dozons of hotsauces lining the counter. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It's a multnomah gem!

Pros: Cheap and tasty food

Cons: not open on mondays

The food has a "homemade" touch to it, the menu has ample variety for a small place, the servers are always a delight. Love the peasant plate and the taquitos. Terrific selection of hot sauces. Great shakes and malts.

This is my absolute most favorite place to go for lunch. There are always interesting specials to try. The flavors are unique and always satisfying. It is in a great location in Multnomah Village. The service is always good too.

Great place to eat. Good food, good service, nice people. Great for lunch hours because you are served quickly and can get in and eat and get back to work.

I give this place 4 stars keeping in mind what it is: a local, small, casual, Mexican-ish joint. That's to say, it's not the same 4 stars I'd give to the restaurant at the Heathman, for example.

But it's got a lot of things going right . . . the service here is great. Everyone's friendly, prompt & attentive. Food comes out fast. The food used to be pretty mediocre, but has recently improved. They're doing delicious things with chorizo these days. The prices are incredibly reasonable. It's not gourmet food, it's not fancy, but it's comfortable and comforting.

Pros: Prices, Service

Cons: good, but not inventive food

I have been living nearby the restaurant for a few years now, tried it a few times, and swore I would never go back, but I had a hangover and was craving mexican food, so out of desperation and laziness I decided to try again. Not only was I pleasantly surprised at the more attentive service, but (and maybe because I was hungover) what I ordered was actually very good. Certainly not authentic, but good. I would reccomend the jalapeno hushpuppies and the stuffed poblano pepper. Drinks seemed overpriced, but good also.....

About a year ago I went to AGSW with my wife for dinner and swore we would never go back. I remember thinking that I could get better mexican at Taco Bell. Recently a group of my friends were meeting at AGSW for dinner and I thought, "I'll just nibble on the chips and salsa cause there's no way that I'm going to pay good money for the same food that I had last time." Well ultimately I did end up ordering a meal and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the best mexican that I had ever had in my life, but it was pretty good, and very resonable for a generous portion. Our waiter was prompt with our drinks, he refilled the chips before we ever asked, and we never felt like we had to wait for anything. I asked him if the restaurant had changed hands recently and was told that it was still the same owner. However they had fired the former cook and a new guy had been working there for the last couple of months. He must be doing a better job of seasoning the food and giving you a reasonable portion for what is honestly a pretty cheap meal. It was a world of difference from the last time I had been. If you're looking for halfway decent americanized Mexican that's filling and doesn't take a huge chunk out of your wallet, this isn't a bad place to go.

I'm sorry, this place had potential, but then Mick started to own it. What is wrong with this guy? This place is awful. Filthy. Bathroom through the kitchen. Nasty carpet. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! Thanks for nothing.

Pros: some of the clientele

Cons: the regulars. The owner. The energy.

Went there recently after a late workday. I experienced very attentive service, in fact, the other waiter frequently made sure we were enjoying our meal/or required anything more. The food is good, but what was the deciding factor in why I will return is the fast service, both by the waiters and the time the food came to out table. How can you beat a basic meal for under $7.00, all the chips you can eat, and a $2.00 bottle of tecate. All in all an enjoyable experience with friendly waiters. I will see you again.

Cons: can't think of any, had an enjoyable time

Their chicken enchilada showed promise as did the pintos. But it was downhill from there. Terrible margarita, the corn chips were Doritos, the spinach enchilada was bland, and the tamale is better at Seven-Eleven. If you only have 1 tamale, make it pork not beef. Awful, awful, awful. The wait-staff didn't know who made their tamales. I guessed Swanson since all their dishes are microwaved prior to serving.

We tried, it was convenient, but now it's back to Mazatlan on Cornell from authentic Mexican.

I've been going to AGSW for the past 10 years or so and I think tonight was the last time. Service was not only terrible I was beginning to wonder if the waitress was going to take matters into her own hands and start throwing people out! Geez! On top of that the food was horrible. I used to really enjoy coming to this place, the food wasn't really great or anything, but it was good and filling...I had to stop at McDonalds on the way home just to fill up.

If you haven't been there before, don't waste the time trying it out. If you have been there before then I'm afraid you're in for a big disappointment. Too bad...it was a fun little whole in the wall and actually kind of fun to go to every once in awhile...now, well...like I said, I get better food at McDonalds...

Cons: now it is just plain lousy

We used to enjoy Acapulco's Gold, but as of late, both the food and the service has gone downhill. We went there for dinner tonight, but we plan to never return. Here's why:
- HORRIBLE SERVICE: our "waitress" must have trained at Guantanamo Bay. Her voice sounded like Cheney's on a good night. She snarled. Kind of scary. When I let her know that my maragrita glass tasted like soap, she didn't do anything to fix the problem. She just told me about all of the reasons that why, OF COURSE it tastes like soap, because of the special glass rinse they use. She never brought my husband's sour cream. Her manner was more than brusque - Prussian dominitrix comes to mind. She was simply unprofessional and she NEVER smiled. When my beer came, I felt like she might need it more than me.
- ABYSMAL FOOD" - Have you noticed the plates keep getting smaller at AGSW? The rice and beans looked and tased like reheated leftovers from last week. My husband's enchilada tasted like burned rice. Our son's nachos had at most a teaspoon of cheese on lurking among the stale chips.
- OUTRAGEOUS COST for CRAPPY FOOD in a DIRTY RESTAURANT: We didn't get to express our disapproval by leaving a small tip, because AGSW adds an automatic tip for groups of 6 or more. So our "waitress" got 20 bucks for delivering crappy food to our dirty table and for not doing a darn thing more.
YUCK!

This used to be a fine place to grab a bite in a relaxed "do as you please" atmosphere. I remember innovative nightly specials and an overall sense of good value. While the passable service hasn't noticeably deteriorated, this perhaps is the only thing that hasn't. For instance, years ago a trip to the bathroom entailed traipsing through the clean and presentable dish washing area and a greeting from an offbeat and oddly hysterical bathroom mural. These days it seems there is rarely anyone scheduled to wash dishes, as the dish area is commonly quite disorganized and very dirty. Even the bathroom mural has become sad and dilapidated with the paint literally flaking off the wall. The food has fallen to a level of mediocrity that might not be quite so disappointing if it weren't so starkly contrasted with the previous high standards. What's surprises most of all, is that as less and less effort is put into this now shabby cuisine, the prices continue to climb higher and higher. What has become of this once pleasant dining establishment is nothing if not a shame.

I love this place and have been coming here to eat for more than 10 years. It is flexible enough to manage with a group of kids but great for a date night out as well. They have a great collection of hot sauces at the old drugstore counter along the back of the room. Pinnatas hanging from the ceiling. A set of daily specials that are usually wonderful. Plenty of veggie and vegan alternatives for that crowd. Service is usually excellent. All in all, a place I really like and highly recommend.

My wife called to see if and where I'd like to go to dinner; I said "let's go to that place we went that time." We met at Acapulco's 1/2-hr. later. It's not exciting or "in" and hasn't changed in all the years we've been going...maybe that's why we like it so much; we're Episcopalians and predictability counts big with us! I always go for one of the specials - they're always good and give the cooks a chance to show off their creativity with moles, chipotle and other more exotic flavors. It ain't Taco Bell or the so-called authentic places with the melted cheese over sloppy refried beans and wilted greens. Service is exceptional and friendly. The guacamole appetizer is a favorite.
