Wanfu has been around for most of my lifetime. I remember having the best meals with relattives there. However, like all family businesses, it has its ups and downs. Overall, they are friendly and nice people, but the food varies in quality a bit from visit to visit.

Horrible buffett
by akm4now
We were excited to try the buffet at Wanfu however we were very disappointed in the choices on the buffett. When we sat down to eat the food we were ever more disappointed in how bland and COLD the food was.
Also, the service was horrible the waitress/owner kept disappearing. We do not recommend this restruant's buffett.

Same great food since they opened 20 years ago
by loridge
Having lived in L.O. since 1980 I?ve dined at Wanfu since they opened. As years gone by, it?s been the same owner and the same great food, nothing else I've tried can compare since I'm used to their food. The posticker is the best, General Tso Chicken is their signature dish. The service is friendly and helpful as always, some of the wait staff has been there for 10+ years and even watched my children grow up and I think of them as family.
After being a loyal customer for 20+ years and reading the reviews that are on here I felt the need to post this. During the recent years, Wanfu business has declined greatly, it?s no longer busy or having to wait for a table like you had to 10 years ago. This is of course understandable with the change in economy and competition from restaurants that has great financial backing.
Yes I admit Wanfu needs a little remodel but what can you do when it?s a small independent family owned restaurant? My Grandparents used to own a little diner in Seattle and I worked there when I was a teen and learned the value of money and I also saw their struggles trying to stay a float when competition like chains moved in. So I know first hand the ups and downs of owning an independent restaurant. I truly love this place, I enjoy the family environment, the familiar wait staff and most importantly the same great traditional Chinese food since they?ve opened. Yes they are a lot less busy vs. other restaurants but don?t be put off by it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this restaurant.
Pros: delicious traditional Chinese food, kid and group friendly
Cons: weekends they get busy so less chance of finding a parking spot

If your in the mood for DOG and CAT!!!

Living in Lake Oswego now for 5 years, a group of us felt it was time to try Wanfu Restaurant. The seating was very prompt for having 5 people, not hard to accomplish when the restaurant was dead. That should have been a sign. It took 15min to get a glass of water. Another 30min to take are order. Now, I am not a very picky eater but, when five people push there plates aside with napkins covering the food you know its bad! We all had a different dish and it was all terrible. My pork fried rice had a strong fishy taste and all the dishes had a strange oily taste about them. After 2hours and 15min we all walked out with upset stomaches and parched mouths due to lack of water. I would stay far, far away from the restaurant.
Pros: No customers, makes it easy to get a table.
Cons: Everything else.

happy surprise
by portlandfoodiearic
I was a little bit reluctant to try Wanfu out because it never seems that busy but the menu seemed very deliberate and thoughtful with some unique items on it, so i figured it was worth a try. The spring rolls were cheap ($2) and fresh, not fatty or oily, and the sauces they were served with seemed homemade- not the usual off-the-truck macro-asian supplier variety. It was the pot stickers that really stuck out in my mind, though. They are a must-order if you come here. Extremely fresh and lightly crunchy with deep, rustic, rich, authentic flavors. Best I've ever had. All the veggies were very fresh and the preperations light, not heavy/fatty. The service was extremely prompt and friendly, and the dinning room, though a little frumpy, was comfortable and relaxing.
Pros: great value, very fresh ingredents, helpful staff
Cons: not very hip

I wanted to go to Wanfu for a long time but a friend wouldn't go with me as she said it'd gone steeply downhill in the last couple years. I decided to go alone and while I can't attest to what it used to be like, I can say it was one of the crummiest Chinese buffets I'd been to in years. A sad little buffet with mostly bland food. Even the stuff advertised as being spicy weren't spicy in the least. When I was there for lunch, there were only three other people in the whole place. Now I can see why.
Pros: Clean, Nice service
Cons: Bland food, All chicken

Good and Possibly Only Chinese Buffet in SW
by ashleyc06
Wanfu is a nice family place to go for their lunch buffet. I find it a shame that their hours are so awkward, it seems like everytime I want to go, they are closed. What I am really interested is their lunch buffet, but again, can never seem to get to because of their 11-2 window.
I find as a teenager I am always seated in the back, away from the family crowd, and that the service given to me reflects that. We always get the check way too early, even before we are even done. We always tip, and we always are on our best behavior when we go out. I find this treatment reflected on us souly because of our age, which is a disappointment.
But again, the food is good and cheap, and is probably the most decient for this price in the SW area.
Pros: Price, Buffet, Food
Cons: Service, Hours

Not the most inventive or tasty plate around, but a back-up spot for another favorite place.

#1 Chinese Food!
by nuts4food
I absolutely love going to Wanfu's! The staff there are really nice and friendly which makes you feel so welcomed. And of course the food is incredible! We go there all the time just for the Sesame Beef. I don't know how they make it but it is really out of this world and there is no other restaurant that makes it as good as Wanfu's. I also love their seafood selection because they give you a big quantity and the size is actually quite big. They are big on quality and taste but low on the prices.
Pros: delicious, inexpensive, exquisite views

It is certainly a delight going to Wanfu's! They have delicious Chinese food with the most reasonable price. Not to mention their employees are always friendly and provide really great service. Plus they have many beautiful fish tanks with exotic fishes that you won't see anywhere else. If you love Chinese food, Wanfu is the place to be!
Pros: delicious, high quality, friendly

Wanfu is everything and more!
by Speedracer
Wanfu has the best lunch speicals at $5.25 per entree including your choice of soup, every special comes with a spring roll, wonton, and veggie fried rice. I just moved here last year and work nearby, I've been coming here for the past year for lunch and dinner. For lunch I always get the General Tso Chicken with a hot and sour soup, service is excellent, and I often sit by fish tank. I also recommand the twice cook pork and the szechuan beef as well as the chow mein. This is place is best and deserves more recognition. My kids love it here too and my mom had her birthday here so this is also a great place for large groups.
Pros: Affordable, Tasty food, Friendly service
