The Portland Farmers Market is one of my favorite summertime activities. There is a great variety of vendors and always something wonderful to sample and buy. There's more than just fruits and veggies too - - cheeses, wines, meat/seafood, pastries and more. There are also great restaurant food booths for a snack or lunch. There's usually plenty of musical entertainment and/or chef demonstrations. It's all set in the beautiful south park blocks near Portland State University. This is our family's Saturday morning destination during the summer.

PROS: Great Variety
CONS: It Can Get Very Crowded at Times

Portland is lucky to have such a great Farmer's Market! Located in the south Park blocks, this market is full of wonderful local farmers and food producers selling an amazing selection of fresh produce and other food products such as dips, sauces, baked goods, cheeses and fresh seafood.

Also a wonderful selection of flowers and plants - for a very reasonable price, you can pick out a gorgeous (and large!) bouquet of fresh flowers. Most of the merchants provide samples of their products to (yum!), so it's a great place to wander through and taste test the goods before you buy.

Very family friendly, there is often live music in the center square and it's a great place to people watch. Many people bring their dogs too, so if your kids like checking out animals they are in for a treat.

The Portland Farmer's Market is on the University grounds--a very nice atmosphere, often there is live music--and a nice selection of fresh veggies, flowers, and local wine, jam makers, and restaurants (Hot Lips pizza is delicious)

I like to plan a big Sunday dinner, and take my ingredient list to the Farmers Market for my produce needs. Support local, organic farming and don't pay an arm and a leg. Local bakeries have booths there, too.....get your bread and desserts, too!

PROS: Local produce, organic produce, cheap prices
CONS:

The POrtland Farmers Market in the south Park Blocks is full of great local and organic produce. I love going here and buying a beautiful boquet of flowers for 10 bucks. Aside from fruits and vegetables, there are baked goods, fresh seafood, cheeses, and plants for sale.
In the center, there is a small food cart area, and in the square, there is often live music to enjoy while you eat.
