I would not recommend bringing your dog(s) to this kennel. The management put a front on that they care, but they really do not. The place is only to make money and not focused on the quality of care for your pet. 72 dog runs, completely full during busy season... just think if your animal is actually getting the "personal" care it deserves. Bring your dog(s) somewhere else smaller and where personal attention and care is a priority.

I have used Laurel Acres Kennels for my 2 dogs for a number of years. I like the kennel and the staff. I toured the facility before I chose them as my kennel and was impressed. My Basenji is very picky and an escape artist. Other kennels I've used he has come home very thirsty, very lethargic and unhappy and stressed out. But coming home from Laurel Acres, he's normal, which I think speaks to the quality and care of Laurel Acres. I do pay for the special programs, though, and I'm sure that helps his attitude. Other kennels I've been to don't have all the special packages.

My Basenji is an escape artist and has escaped from every single kennel I've ever put him in, including Laurel Acres. The difference is Laurel Acres was honest with me about it - they knew he got out immediately, caught him, and put him back in his kennel, and voluntarily told me about it. With other kennels, it came up after I asked a bunch of leading questions, trying to get them to tell me whether or not he got out.

The staff are friendly and they care about the animals. The dogs are enclosed in their sleeping area for 12 hours, but my dogs typically don't go out at home between those hours. The test is really how the dogs are when you bring them home. My dogs are happy and healthy. I've recommended Laurel Acres to a number of people & will continue to do so.

Laurel Acres Kennel is a horrible place to leave your family member. Most of the employee's do not care one bit about your dog or cat unless he or she is one of their favorite breeds. They want their employees to use force against dogs and if they do not then they are considered weak. If your dog is mistreated and you have a complaint against the manager, do not expect the owners to help the situation. In fact, they will take the managers side and refuse to remidy the situation even if the dog is physically abused. They are rude to customers and have no patience with any type of dog unless of course it fits with their liking. If your dog is sick or in pain, it is likely that it will be ignored and the dog's owners will not be contacted and informed of the situation. This kennel gives the appearance of a really nice place; however, unless your dog has no personality and no needs, this is not the place for them. The clean runs and facilities are just a facade for lack of care and attention given at all times. Most often, people are paying for things that are not getting completely done or done thuroughly. I was informed that in order for my dog to walk absolutely perfectly and at their side he was choked to the point that his feet were off the ground and he was making awful choking noises. I expect my dog to be disciplined by me, not the kennel. If I wanted my dog to be trained, I would have put him in obedience school instead of a kennel. I did NOT pay them to choke my dog. The dogs are kept inside all night and have no way of relieving themselves unless they do it on their blankets. When I have picked my dog up from the kennel the treats that I left him were given right back to me, showing that he was not givn any treats during his stay. I pack these treats for a reason: to help comfort my dog while I am away from him. Bottom Line: Do NOT bring your animal here. It is a place that is disfunctional, rude, mean, abusive, and neglectful. My dog will never come here again and if you care about your dog neither will they.

Located several miles outside of Hillsboro but worth the drive. They offer a basic service (for those on a budget) with a long list of ala carte add-ons. Be warned. Saying no to the add-ons may pull at your heart as much as saying yes pulls on your wallet.

In May 2009, our female dog came home from Laurel Acres with a severe bladder infection. The Vet bill was $561 and our dog was on medication for two weeks. The kennel owner refused to help with the vet bills saying they keep a clean kennel. We could not prove they were negligent, so we did not push for reimbursement. On our last visit a couple of weeks ago, I asked how late the dogs were allowed access to the outdoor run and I was told the dogs are locked in the small sleeping area from 7:30pm to 7:30am as all the staff leaves the facility at 7:30pm. It is cruel and stressful to expect the dogs to either hold their urine for twelve hours or urinate in their sleeping area. In addition, I requested our two senior dogs be fed between 6:00-7:00am and 6:00-7:00pm. I was told no problem. When I picked our dogs up at 5:00 on a Friday, I asked if our dogs had been fed and I was told they were fed at 8:30am and 2:00pm their entire stay. Instead of going twelve hours after the night feeding, they had to wait eighteen hours. Our requests, which we paid additional fees for, were not adhered to and our dogs were clearly not a priority. I will never again use Laurel Acres Kennels.

Review left on 11/5/08 was by disgruntled employee upset about termination.

As a staff, we are quite curteous and professional and look forward to caring for your pet as if he/she were our own! Don't let reviews be your only deciding factor, go and visit any potential facility and see for yourself if they meet your standards for your furry family member!

Pros: really really love to care for animals

Cons: may love your pet so much they don't want to give them back, but they will ; )

We have left our dogs with Laurel Acres for many years, in fact we were one of itheir first customers, long before their present facilities were built. They have always taken excellent, individualized care of our dogs.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR PET! I have never seen a place so poorly mismanaged. The office staff is incredibly rude and not accommodating to the needs of the customer. Staff that cannot treat YOU with respect certainly should not be trusted to treat your pet with respect. When I asked to speak with the owner I was told by the manager that they do not "DEAL" with customers.

I've been bringing my pets to Laurel Acres three or four times a year for the past few years. After moving almost an hour away last year, i tried to find a facility closer to home, but none could compare to what my pets and myself are getting here.
My dogs love it, as soon as we turn down the gravel road their ears perk up and they can't wait to go inside. Many of the staff know them and recognize me as soon as we walk in, which i find quite impressive considering the size of the facility. The staff is up-beat, friendly, professional and their love for animals is apparent. The facility is modern, clean, well maintained, safe and organized. The prices can be a little high, especially after the added fees for my older dogs medication and special diet, but it will always be worth it to know that my family members are safe, happy and healthy while i am away. The one time that i had a concern about what i was being charged for, the issue was quickly resolved and i was very happy with the outcome, they care about the owners satisfaction and happiness just as much as they do the pets. I recommend them to everyone!
I have read the reviews and stories about the dog that escaped from the facility last year, and felt the need to find out more about it from staff. My terrier has a talent for escaping and getting into trouble, so these reports left me concerned. I felt that the staff was very up front with me, acknowledging their errors and saying that they dog was put into one of their play yards at the owners request only to climb over the six-foot fence in minutes, it then had no trouble climbing another fence to escape. The owners were quickly notified, and it was a kennel employee who found the dog and returned it. The dog's owner knew she was a fence climber and failed to disclose this to the kennel, they have fully enclosed kennels designed to hold climbing dogs, and the whole incident could have been avoided if the owner had been honest with them from the beginning.

12/23/07 a dog escaped the facility due to insufficient fencing (gaps and holes found in fencing). This is every dog owners absolute nightmare and I would never trust my pets in the care of this facility.

Laurel Acers helped me out in a pinch. At the last minute I had to take a business trip out of town and they told me to bring my pup Olivia over, no problems.

The kennel is very clean and well run. The owners are actually still involved in the day to day aspects of the business and are so very cheerful when on the phone. The supporting staff is helpful and friendly. You feel as though you are leaving your pet with family when you drop them off.

In addition to the normal boarding you can add on little extras, like a "brush and hug". I did this for my dog because she can get a little anxious when she's away from home for too long, and she just loved to have her fur brushed.

The extra care and concern at Laurel Acres is a great asset and I know I'll be taking Miss Oliva back when ever I'm out of town.

PROS: great staff, great extras
CONS: a bit of a drive
