The local Wilsonville staff is nice enough. I've not asked any exercise questions or used the exercise equipment a lot as I joined largely to access the swimming pool, so I really can't comment on anything but the pool and membership policy. The swimming pool is well maintained and quite pleasant on a hot summer day now that the heater is finally working, but I was mislead on the pay as you go, $9.99 every two weeks no (signup) fee summer access to the pool. The RCC (recurring charges to your credit card) has a non-refundable Annual Fee that kicks in exactly on the 3 month aniversity date.

So how is it that my wife signed up with two "in town for the summer" college students at her side clearly intending for short term summer swimming access on the FRIEND / FAMILY ONECLUB BIWEEKLY PMT PLAN end up with 4 X $29.99 = $119.96 annual fees being deducted from our credit card as we near the end of the outdoor swimming season?

Seems that piece of information was:

- not stated on the hallway entrance sign touting no (signup) fees
- not mentioned by the friendly sales representative
- not stated when my wife asked if there were any additional fees
- not highlighted in green on the printout contract we received after signing up

So the contract "clearly" states there is an annual membership fee the rude corporate "will not refund" agent said. If it is so clearly stated why is (per local staff) "everyone calling in" now that the annual fees are being deducted?

Perhaps it has to do with the way the contract was signed? My wife signed an electronic contract. The copy we received after signing shows her signature twice but is actually an electronically duplicated image of the same signature. I will have to go in and see what the electronic contract looks like.....

The local manager says his hands are tied, he is unable to do anything. But certainly he can. He is in charge of the sales staff. How hard would it be to have new members initial the the annual fee, like they do when you waive insurance at the car rental agencies? Or would that negatively impact sales? Seems that if "everyone" is calling in there is a crying need for some process improvement.

Why would the staff be shaking their heads yes when my wife (on site at the front desk speaking to the corporate agent on the phone) clearly stated that this was dishonest?

If the terms had been clearly stated I wouldn't be negatively rating the Bally Total Fitness in Wilsonville. I'd be in bed sleeping like most people are doing at 4AM.

I actually was very fond of this particular Bally's, and happily used the "women only" area for weights and cardio in a nice open and bright room. However I was disappointed by the company's overall customer service and the barbs and incompetence of their cancellation scheme. Be very wary in signing on to year + plans, as even their options for cancellations can have masses of unseen red tape. Other than that--I liked their facilities and being able to stare at some greenery while working out.

There seems to be a big disconnect between customer service and Bally clients and instructors (who are contractors). In addition twice in the past month the gym has not opened at 5 AM as it is supposed to - leaving upwards of 50 people standing outside the locked door with their work clothes in their hands. Their is no back up plan if this happens. The 5:30 AM instructors do not even know who to call and are treated simply as contractors and not employees. Only one employee opens the whole gym and if that employee sleeps in forget you early morning work out.

I love Ballys because they have cheap memberships. I am also impressed with the buisness because of all the different weight lifting and cardio machines they have avaliable. I also love their group excercise classes. It is always better for me to work out with at group of people than by myslef. I can even take my children into Ballys for a family fun day.

I have used this Bally a few times and it just isn't my favorite. The treadmills are older than at the Lake Oswego site. They do have a great weights area.
