A good option for nearly-new styles, and even the occasional vintage find. Try going on a weekday when it's not so crowded.

i have found some really awesome stuff at buffalo exchange, but the prices are ridiculous for being second-hand used items. i can go elsewhere and find brand new clothing for cheaper. the employees here are rude and give off the persona that they're better than anyone and are quick to judge.

I'm a guy and I love shopping. I always come here wishing I had a bit more money to buy what I want. Mostly always a good selection. Most of the staff are friendly and fun to talk to.

For the people who complain about parking, take public transportation. There's no reason to drive in a city anyway.

Pros: Awesome clothes, mostly nice staff, cheaper than new

Cons: Too much Abercrombie and Hollister

first off, when you try and sell them quality stuff, they dont accept it and its obvious they will just keep your donations, second much too expensive for stuff that is USED hello :]

They do have unique clothing here but they definately like hand me downs, especially the shoe selection. I usually have to spend a good amount of time there to find even one item that is worth buying. To make the experience even worse,,,the customer service is terrible. It's also hard to find parking in this area especially on a weekend. Not may favorite place to shop...

Awesome selection, in fact one of my fav thrift stores in portland, but you sold out. And why is every staff member a hickdead (think about it if you don't get it at first) ?Thank god there are still goodwill and salvation army stores scattered across town.

I was totally unimpressed with this store.
I went in with high hopes and left irritated.

There were 13 year old girls running around being very obnoxious & the staff wasn't friendly either.

I will never go back & I didn't find anything even the slightest bit cool.

The three times I have shopped at Buffalo Exchange have all been at the W. Burnside store, downtown. I had just moved from Eugene to Portland and needed shirts and a pair of jeans. On the third visit, I was approached by a young lady after I had been in the store for about 2 minutes. She looked at me for a second and then asked me "what are you doing here?" By the look on my face she knew I did not understand what she meant so she said "we told you you are not to come back in here." I was surprised and told her that no one had ever said that to me but she insisted they had. I asked when this happened and was told about a year ago. I was not living in Portland a year ago and said so. I tried to ask for the name of the person they 86'd and what they had done but was told it was confidential. The friend with me repeated the fact I was not living in Portland at that time, did nothing to change this scenario and we were told to leave. This is one of the most ignorant, unjustified moments I have been through. She would not even consider taking my name to compare it to whoever she thought I was! I guess she is never wrong. We left upset for being treated in this manner and having no avenue to refute her claims. It's a shame at the very least. I have never been asked to leave any store, restaurant, public place before or since! As a manager myself, I cannot fathom(if I was her) not giving someone the benefit of the doubt by at least looking at ID and checking it against a no tresspassing list, just to be sure. She did claim to be the on-site manager. Since this incedent, friends and I support Red Light Clothing and other resale clothing shops. In this day & age, there is no room for this kind of mismanagement & disregard. I truly hope no one else has it happen to them. Mistaken identity happens all the time but to take it to this level without even trying to determine the truth is a down-right shame. All of us, no matter who we are deserve to be treated better than this.

I love the staff at the buffalo exchange, they are very helpful and always nice. The buffalo exchange has great clothes, shoes, and accessories! I used to buy tons of clothes there but lately as money is tight I can either trade my clothes for cash or trade my clothes for other clothes. I love their eclectic variety and would highly recommend you check it out. It saves tons of time from going store to store in the mall at a third of the price for this month/years merchandise. Plus they also take vintage items. Plus, other stores are in the area so it is convenient (i.e. powell's fred meyer etc).

We were pretty unhappy with this location!
We used to go to Buffalo Exchange in San Diego years ago.( When we were young and hip I guess)
Any way, we had some Army uniforms to sell and thought they'd make great costumes so we called in advance to see if they were interested. Upon telling them exactly what we had, we were told to come right down. When we got there after standing in a long selling line we were told they don't take these kinds of things and that they had far too many of some of the others. Didn't I ask just that on the phone??? They did take my Old Navy Pea coat ,which I brought as an after thought, and is neither hip nor vintage.
They obviously felt our time was of No value to us.
I buy and sell a ton of used clothing and the shops are usually pretty straight forward about what they are accepting at any given time.
WE WON"T GO BACK!!!

The Buffalo Exchange is way trendy!! They have a huge store packed full. Lines tend to be long and if you are selling the are even longer. Good shopping neighborhood with great people watching.

You won't find thrift-store prices here. One pair of shoes I looked at were $40! However, the selection is amazing. There's a ton of stuff, especially if you're in your teens-twenties. The location is awesome, too, with lots of cool stores nearby.

I personally think this location trumps burnside's but it may be personal style. Shirts are plentiful here and pants are as well. It's hard to leave this location empty handed and their buyers are much less picky than the burnside store.

Like all used clothing stores, finding that perfect thing is hard. But it seems like I almost always find something here. The selection is always good, the clothing is usually in good condition, the staff is helpful, and the prices are always fair. Sure they've gone up, but everything has.

Once upon a time, Buffalo Exchange was an excellent place to go for both new and used clothing.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a good place to go but it's just not what it used to be. None of Portland's thrift stores are. My theory is that it's all of these hipsters moving here and selling their boring clothes.

True, it's a bit overpriced but so is Goodwill and BE is much better organized as well as a heck of a lot cleaner.

Sell them your clothes because I guarantee you'll find at least a pair of jeans to trade in for your old stuff.

quite crowded depending on which days you go, try the middle of the week in the afternoon for the best customer service where you get more attention. Be careful when picking clothes. I dug through all the racks, even the ones not in my size, to find a shirt from American Eagle for 10 bucks. It was the only article I liked and was of very high quality (compared to the others anyway). A majority of the clothes are not for my taste either because of the style, or the stains and quality. Otherwise, if you're into vintage and strange clothes or on a tight budget, give this place a try.

It seems to me that the Burnside Buffalo has cheaper clothing. But then when I visit this one, most iteams seem overpriced and I can never seem to find much that I like. Oh well. I'll stick to Burnside.

This is an inexpensive way to update your entire wardrobe. Bring in bags of clean, in-fashion clothes you don't wear anymore and receive store credit for shoes, clothing, and accessories. Buffalo Exchange has both men and women's clothing, and it's all current, hip styles. Everything is neatly organized by type (jackets, pants, skirts, etc) and they have a good mix of vintage items as well. They also have new items, and restyled clothing from several local designers.

On the weekends, be prepared to wait for up to an hour to sell your stuff, the line can be a surprise

The Buffalo Exchange is a very fun store with its laidback atmosphere and friendly staff! It is amazing how many great deals you can find! I love a good bargain, so this store is definitely for me. You can find quite a variety of styles, from current new trends to cute vintage styles. You can also bring in your clothing and trade it for cash on the spot or merchandise credit. They carry items that are in excellent condition, so don't bother trying to trade any of your items that are not in excellent condition. Worth checking out!

Out of all the buy sell trade stores I've ever been to, Buffalo is the one I LOVE. The shoe selection is fantastic, as well as the clothing. The clothes are separted really well so you can go to one section for tanks, another for dresses, another for sweaters etc. Prices are great and so are the people... and they actually play good music in the store which makes great for shopping around.

I used to shop here quite a bit when I was in high school - I'm holding on to the pleather miniskirt for old times' sake! You can sell your old clothes and shoes, and buy other people's old clothes and shoes. There's a few new items as well. You'll have to search through a lot of junk, but they will have more good pieces than a thrift store, albeit at higher prices. I guess it's fun to look, but don't get your hopes up too high.

I'm a Buffalo Exchange junkie. The selection is consistently solid, and the clothing is much higher quality than one might find at other secondhand stores. I've often found real gems here, and the staff is always courteous, friendly, and customer service-oriented.

As a clothing seller, I initially was "insulted" that the buyers took so few of my clothes, but I eventually realized that their selectivity was the very reason I love shopping there. My purchases are consistently stylish and in good shape, and they never smell like the bottom of someone's hamper. I think the buyers are as polite as possible when sifting through items you might think are treasures but really wouldn't sell worth beans. (It IS a business after all!)

I've also found that I hold onto clothes from Buffalo Exchange far longer than I do clothes from other places, so it's a great value overall.

I was not as pleased with the store for when we took in perfectly good items and a lot of them(heavy to lug them around) they rejected a lot more than they took. The ones that they took, I really wondered why they chose them. But then I guess they know what they want. The staff was OK in helping you but left you pretty much finding what you want and would answer questions when directly asked but never came and offered. It was a wandering experience and my son thought everything was really great. I do like the concept of recycling and therefore support this store

PROS: Unique items, displayed ok, some really good used items looking new
CONS: Not much help, attitude when you trade in clothes

For all the trendy kids who are into the hipsters throw-aways, Buffalo Exchange is the place for you. Ive been disappointed in the last couple years to see the prices at this place skyrocket. Thats what you get with excess demand, I guess. I used to buy nice clothes there that I wouldnt have otherwise been able to afford, but now I just plain cant afford them anywhere.

PROS: good selection
CONS: more and more expensive every month

I love finding good deals on used clothing and shoes as well as trading in my old clothing.I have to say my experience here has been mixed.Going into this store makes me feel ancient. When I took my clothing in to sell they took nothing and sneered at what I brought in.You're pretty much on your own in the store as far as getting help.I have found a few pairs of Birkenstocks here at a decent price and one shirt.I just don't feel as comfortable here as I do in other shops.

You never know what you'll find here. It's not like some huge clothing retail store, where everything looks the same. Sometimes I leave with treasures, and sometimes I leave empty-handed. There are some great values and also some overpriced pieces (it is used clothing, after all). And you're re-using, which is better than giving your money directly to a company that uses sweatshop labor.

Their selection of used or "vintage" clothing is diverse and underpriced for the most part. You could probably find something you'd adore for less than you'd expect to pay...Nice feature eh? On more than one occasion I have attempted to purchase an item only to have a staff member tell me that there is another item just like the one I have, only priced slightly less...and then they retrieve it for me!!!
Great place!!

For the most part, I adore Buffalo Exchange. I found these shoes which were exactly what I wanted, and they were fairly inexpensive. ($17) They have wonderful selections!
However, I would say that their customer service is sub-par. Particularly the new one. The first time I went there, they were downright rude to me.

I went into Buffalo Exchange because I had heard that they had a good selection and that it was also a good place to sell clothing. That was partly true. It was a good selection of junk. I felt like I had just walked into Goodwill. Everything was dirty and wrinkled. I was afraid to touch anything. I had also brought some items with me to sell. They were mostly brand new items from places like Banana Republic. Some things even had tags on them. They did not take a single thing. Apparently your items have to be old and smelly for Buffalo Exchange to want them. I won't be going back....

I have spent soooo much money/time at Buffalo Exchange. I love the store, the staff, and especially the selection! Where else can you purchase barely-used clothes at very-used clothes prices? Also, their selection of new garments is killer, and I love that they showcase some local designers in their store.

Also, their selection of new garments is killer, and I love that they showcase some local designers in their store.

I'm not big on second hand shopping, but i checked out buffalo exchange and was surprised and the amount of cool clothing they had in stock. their buyers are smart people. you can literally walk in the store with sixty bucks and come out with a complete new outfit that is pretty funky. check it out.

Pros: lots of clothes, cool retro styles, hawthorne area!

Cons: second hand, smaller mens section, n/a

Great if you're looking for current fashions at bargain prices (compared to brand new, of course). A really sad, small and overpriced selection of vintage, though. Cashiers can be snobby, particularly if you're trying to sell clothes. Better selection, service and value across the street at Red Light.
