Deek and Brian's is my favorite camping store. They're super nice folks and have been very helpful. I returned a sleeping bag to them and they accepted it with no hassles. Their prices also tend to be quite reasonable and they have discount deals in the basement.

The store is difficult to sort through at times but when the staff is not overwhelmed by customers, they're generally very knowledgeable and helpful. In one case, I went to rent climbing gear. REI was going to charge me $40 for the equipment I needed. That same equipment was $15 at Next Adventure.

When I needed to get skis, I told the sales person I wasn't going to buy that day, but he continued to stick around in case I had more questions.

While space for merchandise seems to be an issue at NA, the combination of supporting a local business that offers low prices and knowledgeable staff is fantastic.

Recently went in to trade a pair of brand-new condition Garmont boots. Was really surprised when offered only $15 store credit but agreed because I trusted them and figured they would sell them for less than I had thought they could, maybe 3 times that -$45 or $50. I'd always had decent experiences at Next Adventure and I guess I fell for their good-guy ad campaign and didn't think they would just rip me off. But, after agreeing, unfortunately, checked out the used boots and saw a horribly dirty and poor condition identical version of mine going for $65! I'm sure mine will sell for at least $90 since they were in perfect shape. The buyer didn't explain the process at all and how he came up with the offer (unusual for trade-in place, in my experience). I don't know if the guy just wanted to buy them for himself or what his deal was, but I will never be back. It's really a pity because I had always liked having a more local down to earth place than REI but I guess that image just doesn't hold up in reality. Just be careful if you are trading in your beloved gear and expect NA staff to be trustworthy.

What I reallly liked about Next Adventure is their selection of used sporting goods. I could find what I wanted at a very good price. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the goods they sell. This store is a good alternative, I wish they had more locations

The Next Adventure store sell some of the best camping and sporting equipment out there. But what turn me off was how crammed the store was. The store is pretty big, but there was simply too much stuffs laying around and too many racks in there. It's hard ot choose and find what you looking for with all this stuffs and three or more people around. Also, it was really hot that day and there are no air conditioning, which is vital for any shopping or retail store. Air conditioning does attract more custumer on a hot summer day. These are their biggest misses.

This outdoor outfitter has almost everything you'd find at an REI, but usually for cheaper. They have a lot of used gear as well. In summer the store is stocked with hiking, backpacking, camping, and kyaking gear. Then in winter all that gear is stored and it becomes a ski, snowboard, and snowshoe shop. It's sometimes possible to wheel and deal, the staff are knowlegeable and helpful, and you can find good stuff for a good deal. It's great!

Just moved to Portland and some friends said I should check next adventure out. It was a really cool place with a lot of stuff. They have an awesome basement with used stuuff to. Many unique items I couldnt find anywhere else. The only issue I could see was the really high prices on new items. I understand because the store is unique, but don't go unless you can spend $$. If you can, you can find almost anything you need for the outdoors here.

Huge selection of most everything they carry, including many different brand/pricing options. My wife just got a $300 snowboard for half that price, and I got an old (2002-ish) but UNUSED pair of Rossignol skis for $30! (Yes, that says THIRTY DOLLARS.)

I bought a groupon to go on the Ross Island Tour. They sold way too many and can't handle the business. I called four times to try and schedule something. They gave me one choice of one work night - which might work. NO apology, not friendly, not wanting to help me figure this out. Like it or lump it. I will NEVER shop here or set foot in the store. It's not that they couldn't help me it was the way they treated me. Jena was completely not helpful and gave me the run around. She basically told me week nights were available but then when I called back to book there was only ONE weeknight. She is really bad at reservations and really not a people person. Patricia was sweet and helpful. There are lots of kayaking business in Portland do yourself a favor and try one of the other ones. They gotta be more professional than these guys.

After hearing several recommendations about the snowboard gear at Next Adventure, I decided to make a trip there to check it out. To begin, not a single employee offered to help me find my way through the unorganized madness. Secondly, the snowboard selection was not impressive and was displayed in a chaotic pile leaving me very little desire to search through the equipment. Most of it looked like junk anyways, so I didn't waste my time. Don't waste your time here either.

I am not a hard core outdoor person so it helps to go to a place where the staff is willing to take the time educating the customers in a friendly, down to earth way. I have gone in several times (for snowboard gear, backpacking gear) and each the staff is very nice and patient with my dumb questions and doesn't condescend. I don't know the going rate for the items I bought but it seems far reasonable than the exorbant prices I've seen at Outdoor store and REI. Joes is cheap, but good luck finding anyone to help you.

This shop has all the top brands, the reviewer below should check his/her product knowledge. The best camping gear, ski gear etc is all there. The staff are all helpful and polite, it seems to be a happy shop unlike others. Have a friendly talk with the staff and they will get you the best deal they can and spend as much time as it takes to give you the right gear for your trip. You can't ask for more than that.

After checking out REI and a couple of other local specialty ski shops, I finally decided to check out Next Adventure. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the huge inventory of skis, truly amazing. They have a large quantity of new skis and a lot of used skis as well. Compared to the other shops I visited, their selection was by far the best. And their prices are great. Their ski packages give you a lot of boot/ski options; you have the freedom to choose whatever youd like. And the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to take the time to help you. I learned more from them than I did from all the research I did online. And they were able to mount my bindings in a half hour. Overall my shopping experience was great!

I agree with everything people have said thus far concerning the staff, they are young, knowlegable, fun, and relaxed. However, the store is cluttered to the point where I can't find things, or I have to dig through bins to find it. My other complaint is that they don't have the selection that other stores have. They are missing, what in my opinion, are key brands. I do have to say that it nice to see some of the lesser promoted brands get some floor space. I need to also add they are the only place in the area that carries Sea To Summit (such a great company), so kudos to them for that. Overall it's a cool place to go and browse, but if you're looking for something specific you might want to give yourself some time there, and maybe flag down a helpful employee for some assitance.

I was a big fan of Next Adventure --- only ned to look at my camping gear; I bought a lot of it there. But the place has changed in the last couple of years. The prices are not the lowest anymore. I go in for a new lumbar pack and there are only two to choose from, and they are on ""sale"" at this already supposedly low price place and it's more than other places I could have gone. You can't shop online here either -- so to make the trip over there only to find regular retail-level prices and anything from no to a lot of choices...it's just not worth it to me anymore.

Everytime I walk in to look for something, I'm amazed at the level of experience the young people have in there. Seems like all these people are VERY active in outdoor stuff, and will gladly share their experience with the equipment you're asking about. Even have used stuff for super low prices, it's like stealing! If it's outdoors, make this your first stop!

i love next adventure..the people are as helpful, nice, and awesome. I really enjoy going to Next Adventure...even if im not interested in buying anything. It is definitally my favorite place to shop for snowboard stuff and the store has such character. I love the way they add history to it aswell, by putting up the older snowboards and even the snuffer up on the walls.

Ya' ever want to go into a store, well, just because it feels good to be there?? There's something laid back in this place, it's like finding a bar that serves you your favorite drink while you kick back on a couch by the fireplace in the winter...yeah, it's that comfortable.

Everyone that works here has an infectious, ""I would work here for free just cuz its fun attitude"". I'm picky about who I support in the business community because so much in retail just sucks these days---but these guys are awesome, and I find myself wanting and buying probably more than I need, but hey... they're local, and it's ok to overspend in a locals shop, right?

After reading the negative revies about service I had to add some comments.

Next adventure isn't your average ""GI Joes"" or ""REI"". The employees aren't your ""average"" employees either!

They are young, energetic and have a youthfull attitude and appearance. I have been delighted with the service I have received. They always approach me and are genuinely interested in helping me find what I want.

I can't help but comment I am not in the same age bracket (I'm in the over 40 crowd). I find the staff fun to work with, refreshing as well as helpfull.

I would dare to suggest the negative comments come from people in my age group. I suggest that we get over the generation gap and appreciate the young people of today.
