Spendy indeed but we had a gift certificate so our focus was on the yummy food. Their house bread is warm and tasty and a definite impressive opening to our ordered meals. We ordered typical fish and chips and the breading was crisp, the fish flakey, and our drinks were constantly refilled as needed. Very quiet and peaceful in the dining area and the atmosphere takes you away for a moment to the coast even though you're still in Portland. Very nice place to have a pleasant dining experience.

The seafood is very good but it is kind of spendy. I have had quite a few dishes here and it was always very good

I really like what they've done with their new family style menu. I thought it was a great value for the money, plus the food was excellent. I didn't go for the salad, but it was especially good. Their halibut fish and chips are as good as anywhere.

I used to love to go to Newport Bay and Standford's but since Pacific Coast Restaurants sold themselves to Restaurants Unlimited, Inc., it just isn't worth going anymore. The portions are small, expensive and overcooked. Some of my favorite items are off of the menu and what remains doesn't taste the same. I have given the new Standford's and Newport Seafood Grill many chances, but no more. Sad to say, but the halibut fish and chips from Burgerville tastes better, are a better value, and you get more to eat. : (

This place is a flat-out ripoff. I paid nearly $20 for an entree of wild salmon, which turned out to be a completely overcooked, dried out, tough, flavorless piece of salmon sitting on a clearly greasy plate (you could see the wipe marks in the grease, nice) with a few pieces of sauteed broccoli and some over salted steam tray "rice pilaf". I immediately sent it back. The second try was a bit better, and although the quality of the fish wasn't great at least wasn't cooked into cardboard.

If I was paying $8.99 for this meal at a cafeteria I would not have been so peeved, because that's what this food was worth. For $19 for an entree you can go to any number of good Portland restaurants and be served creative, tasty, fresh food cooked by someone who actually cares.

On top of all that we ordered a mojito, one of the restaurant's featured drinks, which came out completely flat and much too sweet. We had to explain to them how to make the second one, which they got a bit closer to the mark.

On a positive note the service was pleasant. That said, that's the last time Newport Bay gets a cent of mine.

I took a friend to Newport Bay for a birthday dinner two days ago and we were both very disappointed. The halibut used to be very good, but this time it was doughy.
I asked to substitute a green salad for the coleslaw. The waitress said yes, "the charge is the same," which I interpreted to mean no extra charge. She did not say we do not do substitutions, but you may order a salad separate,... When the salad came it included shrimp which was not what I had ordered. The decor is nicer but I would prefer the better food and service that was offered before.

Pros: Great Food Great Selection

Cons: More Seafood

this place is sooo pricey for the food that you get. Go to McGrath's fish house instead. Nothing special about anything in this restaurant, incl the staff. They just don't seem to quite 'get it'.
