We celebrated our anniversary here last night. It had been a couple years since we were here, despite it only being 1/2 mile from our home. It's so easy to bypass the long established places for the new hot spots.\r

We have tried Riccardo's four or five times over the last year and the experience has been mixed. Given that dinner for two with wine is generally over $100 (and can even approach that for dinner for one with two glasses of nice wine and a full course), it is not a place we will continue to frequent despite the fact the place is very convenient to us and we were really trying to like it.

On the plus side, the outdoor courtyard in the back is very pleasant with a fountain and reasonable seating. The salads are generally good while the appetizers are reasonable. Service is generally good although when they get busy, it can go down hill quickly.

The wine list is a real treat, coming in a heavy book with a label and a description of each wine, many of which are available by the glass. The servers seem very knowledge and helpful about the wine. There are some real treats on the wine list, both at the pricey end and at the affordable end.

However, for me, this does not outweigh the poor entrees. My wife and I have sampled many of the pasta and meat dishes. I tend to the latter and was uniformly disappointed with the veal and pork offerings. The pork loin was watery and tasteless under a bland sauce. On our last visit, I decided to forgo the meat entrees for a pasta dish which seemed a safer choice selecting ravioli in a butter sauce which was bland with under-cooked tasteless ravioli. My wife's spaghetti dish was runny and unappetizing.

Deserts can be a treat, though.

Riccardo's food is well below the quality of the area Italian food chains (Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill) with service that sometimes approaches the chains. It's only real stand out is the wine list which does not justify the fairly high price tag of a meal there.

Pros: Great wine list and outdoor seating

Cons: Mediocre food

Sure it's spendy however one must do the homework ahead of time and find out if it's in the budget.

That said, the meal we had was well above average. My Double Cut Pork Chop with potatoes, smothered in a Bernaise type sauce was enough for two people, literally a mountain.

My companion's Penne was hefty and to the contrary she did end up demolishing all of it.

The tiramisu was perhaps the finest the city has to offer. The establishment has an excellent variety of desserts to choose from. There is an assortment of herbal teas, the brand name escapes me but not one you often see sold commercially. Very good..

I particularly enjoyed being seated adjacent to a book shelf type wine holder.. Though I didn't indulge, there was a fine array to choose from.

I"ve heard complaints about the waitstaff however the wait person was knowledgeable, personable, and offered objective advice.

We were hoping to find a new italian restaurant we could visit regularly. I love italian! However, I was less than wow-ed with my experience here. First off, I was unpleasantly surprised at how high the price was for something as simple as spaghetti and meatballs. If I had known, I wouldn't have gone there. I honestly could have made a better spaghetti and meatball dinner for a fraction of the cost at home... and I'm not even a good cook! The food was fine, nothing to write home about. It's just that it was so over-priced for what it was. Plus our waiter was REALLY annoying. My fiance and I were just looking for a nice little place to have a calm and relaxed meal. It was so obvious how fake-nice our waiter was being...and we couldn't wait till he left the table each time! We won't be going back for several reasons.

From the wine list through home-made pasta and all the way to desert, Ricardo's food and service were great. I will return and recommend it to others. It is one of the few places with a comfortable ambience that is good for a romantic evening or for a business lunch. 5-stars for sure.

You can eat a fine meal here. Prices are comparatively priced for a night on the town. Service was good. Reservations are recommended. You won't be disappointed in a meal at Riccardo's.

I've been dining here for the last 18 years or so, once or twice a year. The first time I went in my wife was out of town so I was alone with my two young daughters (3 and 5 yrs old) and the owner (his son manages it now) sat down with us and entertained the girls and complimented them on their table manners. At that point I was pretty much sold on the place. Then the food came, the girls had pasta dishes that were the best I've had since I was in Italy, I had a simply prepared veal dish (you know, white wine, capers, etc.) that was so incredibly good, melt in your mouth quality, that I have ordered veal every single time I've been back, except once when they had a boar special. The Italian wine selection is incredible with really great prices for a restaurant, markup is about twice retail, or a little less. Desserts are okay but not great, too many made off-site, and just not fresh enough, but I'm not a big fan of anything sweet. The bar is not too good, no selection in hard liquor and no after-dinner drinks, they would like you to buy a dessert wine. Unlike other reviews I've read here, I have ALWAYS had great service here, both on the patio and inside. It is not an inexpensive place but I have always walked away feeling like it was money well spent. To top it off the restaurant owns an Italian wines shop across the parking lot with truly GREAT wines. This review is making me hungry, I think I'll go call them and see what tonight's veal specials are!

Pros: Great Veal

Cons: Poor Bar

Authentic, well prepared Italian food. Best lasagna I've found outside Italy. Well thought out and researched wine list - priced closer to retail than most restaurants (Retail shop across the parking lot). Knowledgeable wait staff. I'm there 2-3 times per year over many years. More often to the wine and espresso shops.
I think someone is planting negative reviews because I this ristorante would not be so successful if there were that many dissatisfied customers. We find it to be consistently excellent.

Pros: transports you to Italy

Cons: pace of the meal is as it is in Italy

Great food, service and staff. The food is really, really good and you get nice portions. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the menu items. The service is quick and prices are reasonable (maybe just a tiny bit high but not much and it's worth it).

We used Riccardo's for my daughter's first communion dinner and the lasagna was amazing. Everyone was asking where we got it from. A great value for 25 people.

We love Riccardo's and have gone there for special occasions for several years. Today was a special occasion. We were sorely disappointed by the service. Maybe the staff didn't show up, but no one tried to remedy an irregular situation. We had never learned that sitting inside was a no no. No service. No heat. No water. No dessert. As usual the lasagne was mouth watering, but wilted today as well as the salad. We did learn from the host that sitting inside just doesn't get you service on a nice night. But now we know--the patio is really a room and there are heaters and it was warmer there than outside. So, maybe we will go back--maybe not. Not for a special occasion; it needs to be special when the wine is $15.00 a glass.

We used to go to Riccardo's at least 2 times a month. Summers are wonderful out on the patio with a great bottle of wine and their innovative Italian (with PNW fresh ingredients) dishes.
*
However, we've had some very unsettling experiences there. It's either great (and it should be for two people you can expect to spend $200 minimum for 1 good bottle of wine, appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 dessert) or it can suffer, greatly. YES, service usually takes 2 hours for a wonderful meal, it's not slow, but European paced. If you want fast (poor) food, go to Olive Garden or Romano's.
*
The last time we went to Riccardo's we had a nice meal, but had to chase down the servers for water, bread, another bottle of wine and our check. We were served a side of attitude as well, which should never be an issue, as this place is well established and those of us in the neighborhood give them 80% of their steady business.
*
I do love their wine list (however, tends to be over priced , as for their $40 wines are found retail for $12...that is a giant mark-up), it's unique and they offer some Italian wines that no other place in Oregon can!! The cuisine is great most of the time, but as the service can be inconsistent, so can the food. The restaurant business is a funny thing. Service needs to be great and food consistent. And you remain on top!
*
I recommend, but with reservations. If you go on a good night (good serices/food) enjoy. If not, let management know, if they do nothing about it, then never go back.
*
We go because they are very close and we try to always support local business, when ever possible. However, if we continue to encounter inconsistencies, we would rather stay at home and know we can rely on our own devices.

Pros: Wine list!, Authentic Italian cuisine, fresh NW produce/products

Cons: Bit expensive for what you get, service-inconsistent.

As a former server I have plenty of insight into the ins and outs of waiting tables. I also am quite forgiving as I understand when servers get busy and overwhelmed. With this in mind I couldn't bring myself to think of enough excuses as to why the service was as bad as it was when I dined here recently. At first the service was great - we were seated and greeted promptly and informed of the featured items. Our server was very informative and knew the menu well. After the salads came it was all downhill from there. Our drinks were not delivered until we flagged down a busser and had him get them for us, twice. Then our server never came back to the table. Our food took over 40 minutes to get to the table. Our busser was outstanding - kept our waters refilled and plates cleared. He even boxed our take home items right away. Never did see our server until our table and the 3 tables next to us flagged him down asking for the check. One man was so mad he just reached right out and grabbed the server's arm to give him his credit card. The busser came over once again to offer us dessert menus but then no one came back to see if we wanted anything. We FINALLY got our check and paid. I am really surprised that no one, besides the busser of course, was helping our server. No other servers nor the owner of the restaurant were assisting this poor guy. I am sure plenty of people have a nice experience dining here but I would hesitate to return based upon what I saw.

Pros: Extensive Wine List

Cons: Way too Expensive, Parking Can Be a Nightmare, Service Needs Improvement

If you can get out of here for a simple dinner for two for less than $100, you are doing great.
Two simple plates of pasta, a couple glasses of wine, and an appetizer will set you back at least that much.
Stooooopid.
C'mon. $11 for a glass of wine? $26 for a basic plate of pasta? (and it was greasy).
The service was good, the staff friendly, the food was ok.
What's with these prices? This is Lake O, not Toky O!
(yes, I just rolled my eyes!)

Pros: Excellent outdoor patio dining, good service in my experience.

Cons: Toooo expensive! It's not a 5 star place, but c'mon.... It's pasta.... In Portland.

For everyone who has bad things to say about service.... in certain cases, you may very well be right, however, if you're as rude as you're coming across in your reviews, it's no wonder you get crappy service. (Bet it happens in more places than one, right?)

As a long time server, if you treat your servers badly, don't expect to be treated well in return. Look around you, and take into account how busy your server is before you condemn them for being slow. There's a very good chance you aren't the only table they have.

An no, I don't work here.

Some of these reviews surprise me! Our family has dined at Riccardo's for many years and we love to eat at this small neighborhood place where the food is rich and flavorful. The servers are attentive but don't hover and Riccardo and Georgette greet guests warmly. In the summer the outdoor patio is divine! You won't find better Italian in the Pearl let alone LO. We've never had a problem with reservations either and if we don't have them, we wait for a table just like anyone else. A special treat is to buy seats at Riccardo's wine tasting dinners when you get to hear guest vintners from Italy and take your time with a four course meal. There is a reason Riccardo's has been around and busy for decades.

I guess Citysearch ratings are for sale... I've noticed this place is spending a lot of money on a big push to get itself on the cover of LO dining publications and the like, even though few who live here have ever heard of it and its reviews are dismal. I'd seriously like to know why this stellar Citysearch rating persists after all these bad reviews... this is like an eBay seller with more than 50% negative feedback still sporting a 100 rating.

Anyway, made a reservation, person who answered the phone was absolutely rude and gave the distinct impression that he didn't care one way or another and I was lucky to be speaking with him at all. That should have been the red flag, but noooooo my relatives were in town and someone was dead set on going to the restaurant "with the fountain".

So we get there, 35 minute wait for a table BEYOND our reservation time. Several tables not in use... I guess my reservation isn't important enough to be seated on time but we'll hold these tables until the VIPs show up.

GROSSLY overpriced. Food nothing special at all. Not at all worth the venture out into the sticks. Try a downtown location like Zeppo or Tucci for MUCH better food and MUCH better service.

A friend asked me to dinner tonight and chose Ricardo's. I came to read the reviews and find it interesting that people "hate it" or "love it". Something seems fishy. Kinda makes me think someone is planting positive review for the sake of business??? I have to say, after reading the negative reviews - I wish I could suggest another place to my friend. At the end of the night, I will either be convinced someone is planting positive reviews - or be awe struck at the coinsidence of the polar views on this restaurant.

I've been to Riccardo's many times and the food has always been excellent. The wine list (book) is fun to look at and most of the wines are quite affordable. Their lasagna, pasta bolognese, and penne arrabiata are all wonderful. I'm surprised to read the other reviews where people say they were treated rudely. Maybe only rude people are treated rudely. Riccardo's is awesome.

Although a previous experience, on a week day, was satisfactory, the recent one was not. If you wish to pay over $100 for two person, wait for 3 hours for the service and receive a portion of Saltiboca which had about 2 oz of veal and tasteless cheese and a withered sage leaf and allowed to dry, then this is the place for you.

It appears that the greatest drawback about Riccardo's is the possibility that you might be seated next to one of the awfully cranky and sour people who have written reviews here. If you can avoid that, you'll have a lovely experience. The food is delicious, the wine list delightful, and the ambience delovely. Go on a summer evening, relax and smell the garden rosemary in the air. Unless you are a crab, you'll be more than satisfied.

I absolutely love Riccardo's. Hands down, it is the best restaurant in Lake Oswego, and I have been to all of them, many times. Riccardo's food, wine selection and service has been consistently outstanding over time, which is why we always return. Organic, local, truly authentic Italian and Borello by the glass - what more can you ask for? Dine outside in the sumer time and you'll feel like you're in Italy... THE romantic Italian spot in the metro area, with Italian wines you won't find anywhere else.

Pros: Local, organic food, romatic ambience, excellent and unmatched wine selection

Cons: can be a wait

.

I'm going to keep this short because I'd be ranting otherwise. I have always had negative experiences here. Mostly rude service. Don't try to customize anything, don't ask for a different sauce, don't ask for a side of sauce...and whatever you do DONT ASK FOR A SIDE OF BASIL! The rude waiter when asked for a salad up first brought it with the meal and the $90 bottle of wine at lunch time we ordered came after the meal was served. We didn't eat, made a point to pay, corked our wine and left and tried desperately not to make a scene as we left.

The food is ok but need to work on being more accommodating and less conceded. Once again a sad tale of servers ruining a business. Best of luck!

We have lived in the area since 1992 and consider Riccardo's to be an excellent restaurant - fabulous wine list, delicious appetizer, great salads with organic greens..........and many really delicious entress to choose from - their lamb, their filet mignon, their array of delicious pasta dishes, veal dishes...I have never order anything that I didn't end up loving.

You can't wrong. Get reservations and arrive early....this place is always busy and has a wonderful patio area to enjoy in warmer weather!!!!

Also check out their wine shop next door if you have the time. (No, I don't work for Riccardos, I just love it and consider it one of my favorites in all of Portland Metro)

We ate at Ricardo?s this evening, and I promptly came home and created a ?city search account??.what a complete disappointment. Our waitress was friendly enough, however she did forget about us. We sat over uneaten meals for twenty minutes and had to eventually flag down another server to get us our bill. I ordered yellow fin tuna that was over-cooked and drowned in lemon making it virtually inedible. The accompanying cauliflower was very cold and smothered in such heavy herbs that it was also inedible. My dinner partner had the pork shank which was ?ok?, however a far cry from tasty. The most satisfying menu item (aside from the wine) was the spinach which was seasoned well, and warm to the table. As I read the other reviews I?m amazed at some of the high ratings?. between the apps, the main course, the service, and the overall ambience, we are 100% stumped. We could not under any circumstance be pressed to recommend Ricardo?s.

The past 2 special occasions we had the pleasurable experience of dining at Riccardo's. After spending 2 years living in Italy, Riccardo's reminds me of that time. The chef has managed to capture rustic Piedmont and Tuscany with style and elegance. Recommend reservations, but well worth it! All entrees are delictable!! Wine list is also great, they have the most expanded Italian list in the greater Portland area. Mille Gratzie Riccardo!

Riccardo's has always been a favorite restaurant of my family. We've gone there since I was very young. I always knew the food was good, and the service wonderful, but it wasn't until I tried other Italian restaurants in town that I realized how absolutely amazing their food is. Riccardos strives to provide a little piece of Italy in the subburbs. This is true Italian cuisine, not Americanized Italian. They have an amazing menu and encourage you to try new things. The waitstaff is incredible and will always give great suggestions of what to try. For a taste of Italy, head to Riccardos today!

Having arrived at an engagement to find it canceled, my partner and I decided to head to Riccardo's, as we've been meaning to try what we've heard is wonderful food... our expectations were surpassed. First, the ambience was perfect. Not a trace of pretension, very relaxed and quiet, but not funereal. We lingered over our meal for two hours, and were never hurried. Now, the meal. This was beyond excellent, and there's not enough space to go into the Filet Mignon, Ravioli, the sides and our desert (La Diva, Peanut Butter Pie). Having been told about the steak beforehand, I will agree. It was the best I've ever had. Our night was sublime.

I was expecting a great experience, but I was disappointed by the way I was treated. The food was good, but my night out was tainted due to rudeness.

I've been coming to Riccardo's for at least 10 years and have always enjoyed the service and most especially the food. Their Lasagne is always the best thing to order if you cant find anything else that wets your appetite but the menu is so extensive that its hard to find something that you wont like. The courtyard is beautiful when it is open but the inside could use a little sprucing up. I come from out of town to dine at Riccardo's and I think its one of the best places in the Portland area.

I took my fiancee to Riccardo's recently. From the moment we arrived at Riccardo's, we were treated like outcasts. A snobby, ill-tempered waitress took our drink order, then nearly half an hour later asked us for our food order. The food was pretty good (I had the eggplant parmesan; something I can make better at home) and we had a fine visit, but the waitress' manners were so bad I actually laughed out loud at one point - I was so astonished!

Again, the food was pretty good - nothing spectacular. The prices were very, very high considering the size of the dishes served. It reminded me of those frou-frou restaurants in Los Angeles where they charge $18 for a crostini.

Dessert, however, was quite tasty. The "La Diva" torte was delicious.

Some day when I learn to appreciate pompous and arrogant servers, I'll return and revel in the moment.

Riccardo's has improved since my last visit a few months ago. The service is exceptional, knowledgeable and friendly. They do not look down upon those using discounts. Entrees (meat) are reasonably priced, which are accompanied with fresh assort breads, salad or soup, vegetables and pasta-far more than one could eat, left overs are a must if you wish for dessert or a starter. Wine list is exceptional, offering wines from all regions of Italy at every price range. The veal, fish (ahi) and pork dishes were wonderful. The chef is highly skilled and doesn't miss a single detail. We will return and recommend to cuisine and wine enthusiasts!!!

We have been frequent patrons for over 10 years and it surprises me that the owners never recognize us or our friends by name.

We go to many other restaurants and within two visits not only does the management know our names, but the staff. They know what we like to drink, what we frequently order and our names.

The lack of warmth and even caring that we frequent their restaurant has really deterred us over the years. Our visits have become fewer due to the overall 'who are you, we don't care' attitude.

riccardo's provides quality, authentic food - the ingredients are fresh, and always well prepared. my family and i have been going for 5 years and have never been dissapointed. of note, is the fact that it is a european dining experience - which means, take your time, ask for recommendations and ALWAYS make reservations. that will ensure a pleasent evening.

Considering the area and clientele, I suppose it's okay. Had the Lasagna topped with a cream sauce that was very light and good. The heralded Bruchetta is much overrated. Nice wine selection. However, if you're not from the area they'll definitely make you feel it.

I found the food to be very overpriced for the quality. There are plenty of other places to go in the Portland area for better food at a cheaper price. The food was not awful- just nothing special at all.

Yes, Riccardo's is always busy and sometimes there is a wait. It's been that way for years. Isn't that a good sign? Sitting on the beautifully lanscaped patio and drinking great wine makes up for any delay. The food is always consistent and rich in flavor. Reservations are honored, especially for those who show respect. Of course, if you want something faster, there's a McDonalds across the street. But if you want authentic Italian food, try Riccardo's.

Somehow, waiting 45 minutes beyond the reservations makes the whole idea of calling ahead absurd. But, aside from the late seating, it was galling to be told, when we inquired as to the status of our table, that it was being set up right then. Twice. For 30 minutes. We were a party of eight, not 50! Food was good, but overpriced. We went for the outdoor dining, and apparently paid dearly for it. The best part of the evening was our waiter, who really was a delight. Had the 20% gratuity not been included, though, I'd not have left that much, just due to having to wait SO long. It will not be my choice to go back.

Riccardo's does, and always has had the best, most awesome lasagna ever!

I've not been to Italy, but I'm willing to bet it's authentic. Great newly remodeled atmosphere.

For some reason, it appears Portland can't get it right when it comes to inexpensive to reasonably-priced Italian food (except for Justa Pasta; Assaggio, which is somewhat inexpensive compared to most of the Itaian eateries; and Genoa--well worth the price).

Food was pretty good, but I will not pay their dinner prices; if you want to go there, go there for lunch. Ambience is horrible. I don't like sitting elbow-to-elbow with other patrons nor did I like the tables, which seemed unsteady. Our waiter was good, but left us for a while. Riccardo's tries to hard, playing off Portlanders' flash for the cash attitude---will trendy die out?
