McMenamins, Hawthorne location with streetside wooden picnic tables. Bugers and fries; nothing fancy. About 20 beers on tap, with specials featured on the beer board daily.

This is a great place to go if you feel slouchy and want to run around in your t-shirt and jeans. No-stress allowed! The old school Hawthorne environment is captured here.

....and tater tots. Does it get any better? Yes, it does. Add a ruby and some board games. Typical McMenamins fare, but the surroundings are fun. I see something different everytime I go. I'm still confused why it costs a dollar to "cajunize" the tater tots, though.

Hawthorne Street at one point attracted the deadheads, and in their honor, The Barley Mill Pub was established. The Barley Mill Pub will make you feel as comfortable as you do in your favorite jeans and t-shirt. Plants and artwork adorn the entire room, and if you need some extra privacy or sunshine, head upstairs to their "loft". Jerry Garcia is obviously the main focus of the pub, so if you don't know who he was, you might feel out of place. What I love about this place is, you can relax, and still feel that your children are welcome. Color books, board games, and trivia cards are well stocked should you get bored. And the food is cheap and slightly greasy, but nothing a good Hammerhead brew wouldn't wash down.

PROS: Great for Saturday afternoon while strolling Hawthorne
CONS: Not for the uppity tight.
