The gardens are well kept, the staff are well informed as well as super friendly and the exhibits are awesome. Personally I think the best exhibit is the underwater shark tank where there are different types of sharks swimming all around you, really a phenominal experience.

Lots of fish, lots of indoor exhibits, lots of outdoor exhibits as well. The see-through, walk-through exhibit is amazing, almost scary at times, and this aquarium also used to be the home of Keiko.

The aquarium focuses largely upon ocean and tidal aquatic life, which is perfectly appropriate given where the aquarium is located. Most people don't realize how rugged the Oregon Coast really is; the sea life that lives on the Oregon Coast is actually pretty tough to see in the real world because of the terrain.

And it's a beautiful drive to get there, too.

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is truly a world-class place. The exhibits are wonderful and informative. The shark tunnel is a real event. The kids can spend hours, yes hours, watching the sharks. The look on shark-obsessed kids makes the drive well worth it! The bird exhibit is great fun; the puffins are very interesting to watch. There are enough inside exhibits to make it a good choice for a rainy Oregon day. The price is a bit high, but at the same time well worth it. Parking is ample, although some of the distant spots are a bit of a walk.

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is a great place to take the kids for the day. We always try to go whenever we go to the coast. It was really neat when they had Keiko, the observation area was really neat. There are still some great things to see though. they have some tanks where the kids can actually put their hands in and feel the anenomes and other small sea life. All of the tanks are very well kept up and the volunteers are always very knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have. The facility is really very beautiful. It is a little costly however, but it is worth it as it is very neat for the kids to see all of the sea life and all of the presentations they have.

PROS: Nice exhibits, very clean, knowledgeable staff
CONS: expensive

It can be an expensive ordeal to take a family to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, but once you are inside the exhibits are worth it. The shark exhibit is amazing, especially if you walk through at feeding time. There are great "touchy, feely" exhibits where you get to pet some of the marine life like star fish and sponges.

My personal favorite are the sea lions. They are so fat and slow on land, but amazingly beautiful and graceful in water. The inhabitants love to show off their swimming skills for all the visitors.

Although we didn't see the other Aquarium in Newport to compare them, the Oregon Coast Aquarium was worth it. STOP BY the NEWPORT VISITOR CENTER first for a well-worth it discount card. Although the flowers we didn't care about, you can see the seals and sea lions up close, along with octopi, puffins, and all the other sea creatures. There's a petting pool for the kiddies, which was a little chaotic. and the requisite way-overpriced gift shop, so buy your kids toy seals first at a dollar store.

We went to Newport for a couple of days and the weather was a foggy, misty mess. Not very good weather for enjoying the beach, but just right for a visit to the Aquarium. We had a wonderful time seeing all of the fish, rays and SHARKS. The jellyfish were beautiful and the otters and puffins were so cute. We had an awesome visit to the aquarium that really saved our trip.

PROS: No sand in our shoes.
CONS:

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is amazing. Get up close and personal with seal creatures of all shapes, types and sizes. Fun for the whole family. Neat sea life! The sealife is very up-close so you can see the details and bright colors. The gift shop has lots of fun gifts, although they are expensive. Parking spaces are limited, so you might end up walking a bit.

PROS:
CONS: no rest room for public use

This museum is a great place to learn about aquatic animals.
There are several rooms filled with huge tanks of interesting fish.
They have an outside area that has otter and seabird exhibits. The walkway along the bay leads to the relatively new shark exhibit. You walk through this area in a tunnel through the tank so that sharks are swimming on all sides of you. This is the aquarium known for housing Keiko, the whale of the story Free Willy

Hands down the best aquarium in the Northwest. The grounds are lovely, the facilities are huge, the tanks are bright and clean, and the variety of creatures is astounding! Besides gorgeous tropical fish, there are many tanks full of interesting sea horese, skates, crocodiles and jellyfish, a hands-on tidepool area for the little ones (or the kids at heart), THREE walkthrough aquariums (one is full of rays and sharks). Outside there is a large red octopus, playful sea otters, seals and sea lions, an aviary full of puffins and other diving birds and a butterfly garden that must be beautiful in the spring. I was extremely impressed with this aquarium and will come back every time I visit the Oregon coast!
