The Lucky Lab is a great set of beer-hall style bars with different food at each location.
Best of all is the Tour de Lab 30 mile bike ride which makes stops at each location.

This is a fun place to go and meet other dog lovers. Service is friendly and food is consistantly good. It is just plain a fun hangout.

What a better place to have a few really amazing beers, freshly brewed, and of alternating flavors to the weather season, and as the "Recession Session" brew came out, economic conditions.

If the beer weren't enough to attract you to this close, easy access bar on Hawthorne, but the food is worth the journey alone. Try the Spicy Curry Chicken Bento, its rumored that one of the owners found the recipe for it in a visit to Thailand years ago.

Beyond that, and the multiple locations, you feel at home and happy at the Lucky Labaradore and can't help but get sucked into the fandom as you see the many shirts and stickers you can get of the faithful labradore, and the many customers whom mailed in "I was there" photos across the world wearing Lucky Lab apparel.

For a visit to Portland or for any Local, the Lucky Labradore is a must try!

Pros: Awesome Local MicroBrewery, Fantastic Food, Delightful Setting

Cons: Occasional strange servers, but we must keep Portland weird

I meet at the Lucky Lab on Quimby every month with a large group of people (average 20.) We are kind of noisy but no one seems to mind. There is a great selection of beer on tap. The food isn't the best in the world, but has always been appropriately cooked. They offer some neat sandwich options. I wasn't impressed with the corn chowder- it wasn't thick at all. The waitstaff are attentive, but not talkative.

Overall- a great place for groups but probably not somewhere you'd want to go for just dinner.

The menu is as odd as the cows dispersed throughout the bar. Deli and Thai? Seriously? But to their credit they do both well. Their Italian grinder is delicious. I have yet to find that one beer, although Black Lab and Top Dog or both certainly drinkable. If you enjoy thai try the Bento with Spicy Peanut Curry.

Pros: Bring your Fido and enjoy the covered poarch together.

Cons: Having to wait in line at a counter to order.

it is a really special place. having the dogs running around in the summer while drinking fantastic beer has to be experienced. the food isnt anything special, but everyone that works there is nice as nice can be. the ESB is the best i have found anywhere. it can get kinda chilly in the winter.

My husband and I have been going to the Lucky Lab since it first opened. We had our first date there, and have made many important decisions in life over a pint with our pooch out on the back patio. We love you guys..."...drinkin' a beer with my four legged friends and a coupl' a strangers it all depends, it doesn't matter that it's gettin' late, for now it's time to celebrate!" (FLG) Keep on brewin' boys (and ladies) - and welcome home Flem, keep kickin' it over the top!

Pros: Great Beer, great people and a great patio

Cons: sometimes there are a loooooot of dogs, but I like dogs soo...

I occasionally meet friends at the Lab on Miser Mondays for beer and dinner. I'm always dissapointed with the utterly boring menu, that hasn't changed in years. They just don't seem to care whether or not their customers are satisfied, as long as people still come through the door. They often run out of certain foods; for instance, if sandwiches are practically the only thing on your menu, make sure you have enough bread. Beer is good, but not consistant, and dogs are a huge plus. The managers could stand to read some of these comments.

Any business that welcomes dogs is a good business in my book. Dog lovers are just good people, so businesses like this one are good ones to actively support.

Dog-friendly businesses are ALWAYS good people... Lucky Lab has an outside area (fenced) where you can bring your dog(s) while oy enjoy your food and drink... they make some great brews here, and the food has always been great as well. A large main room indoors, plus a seperate room (or two?) for groups, meetings, etc.

They also show movies in the back parking lot during hte summer months.

...but it's all about the dogs... even if you don't have one but are just a 'dog lover', it's a great place to be!

PROS: Dog Friendly, In-House Brewery (YUM!), Friendly Staff
CONS: my dog isn't well behaved enough. :(

Lucky Lab is a great place to hang out with friends in a casual setting. The long picnic type tables make socializing easy and they have some surprisingly quality, inexpensive wines for those non-beer drinkers. Great pub food, as well. F

Great place for dog lovers! Large, dog-friendly patio, even rain-friendly, as it's covered. Good micro-brews, with guest taps, too. The food consists of bentos, soups and sandwiches, and chips/salsa, hummus/bread. The Corn Chowder is really good!

Ah, the lab! The lab consistently has the best beer in town. Dog Day IPA is a classic. And they have a nitro and hand pump tap with rotating varieties. But watch out, their alcohol content is high (higher than they claim?). The indoor area is spacious. The atmosphere is rustic with unfinished vaulted ceilings that look untouched for 80 years. Outdoor seating is spacious, and now they have outdoor heaters for those cold winter nights. There are typically a lot of dogs on the porch and things can get rambunctious. Service is "too cool to be friendly. The food is overpriced and not good, but tolerable in a pinch. BLT is the best meat sandwich and the three cheese meltdown is the best veggie. Bento is decent. Caesar salad is the highlight. The soups are not stellar. Don't come for the food, come for the beer.

The best restaurant in town for dog lovers. Good food and drinks, and a great place to meet up with friends. Most fun on warm spring or summer days. Worth a visit. And the t-shirts are very cool :)

This is a really fun place, especially if you're a dog lover. The place is adorned with pictures of people and their dogs and canines are welcome on the patio, if they're well-behaved enough to sit through a meal without causing chaos. It gets pretty loud on weekend nights due to the music the staff plays, the Lab's large size, and the number of people who frequent it, but it's rare not to get a table within 15 minutes of arriving. The beers are great, there's always something new, and there's a ton of souvenir merchandise if you like that kinda thing. The Lab's owners are very involved in the community and do a bunch of fundraising, so come out and support their effots!

Ray Oldenburg would love this place as much as my wife and I do. Clearly the Lucky Labrador meets the requirements of a great third place. Friendly atmosphere, good food and drink, and, most of all, a relaxed place to meet and spend time with friends.

I've been going to the LuckyLab for just over a year now, and let me tell you - It is mind blowingly great.
Because I'm only eighteen, I cannot comment on the state of the various beers that are served (Though my parents are quick to announce that the IPA is one of their favorites). I can however, comment on the food. The menu consists almost entirely of various sandwiches, and while that may seem like a let-down to some, their outstanding quality more than makes up for the lack of a broad menu, in my eyes. The Deli Club inparticular is rather awesome.
The LuckyLab's environment is also rather nice, sporting some nice music, and a large dining area.It is not without flaws however, as some of the tables tend to be a bit wobbly.
At any rate, the LuckyLab has earned the oh-so-coveted 'ZopharX's-Favorite' award. Hurrah.

This is not the place to go if you are looking for the real brew pub experience. There were neither fries nor burgers which is the standard at most brew pubs. However, the sandwhichs are great and the bentos looked very appetizing. It would be a wonderful place for a man/woman and his/her best friend to relax on a good sunny day. The dogs may not go inside, there are a large number of picnic tables to choose from. They did not have decaf coffee and while we were there they ran out of soup. We might go back on a nice day to relax with our dog and have a good sandwich. There ared mixed reveiws.

I guess this place was perfect for hosting our large group that included vegetarians. However, given the option I probably wouldn't return. Brewpubs are supposed to have grease at least in the form of fries or pizza. Lucky lab has neither. The bentos can temporarily sate the carnivore, but I would visit this place on a full stomach.

i've been to many brewpubs, i mean come on, i'm Irish!! but this has to be the WORST food i've ever had in my whole life. i've met friends there 5 times in the last year (masochist?) and everytime i've been sorely disappointed by the fare. it's so uncreative and bland. so plain and disappointing i can't even begin to go int detail. it would take too long!!! in the summer, if you've already eaten, it's a fun place to hang out and drink beer. i do love that there are always dogs hanging around.

The club sandwich is one of the best in town, and at $5.95, probably the best value as well. The sandwich ingredients are pretty decent and the fresh bread from Grand Central baking is excellent.
Oh yeah, the beer... I'm partial to the Hawthorne Best Bitter, but the IPA certainly holds it own against Portland's may options for quality brews.
Great place for a casual date or meeting up with a group of friends.

If you're meeting a bunch, and I mean a bunch, of people, then LL is a good rendez-vous. However, it is boring and lacks character. You should move on quickly to another place once your group arrives. Although, not many places can accomodate large groups like LL.

My 8 year daughter's favorite place to go on Saturday with her Dad. She loves the soups and the BLT's. Also the Thomas Kemper root beer. She doesn't quite know how much her Dad enjoys the brewskey, but that's OK.

The "Lucky Labrador" was a huge disappointment!
The drafty wearhouse amosphere and the food, service and selection were all well below average.

Their menu selection was limited and the food we had wasn't all that great. The employees we delt with were rude and very unfriendly. About the only good thing I could say about the "Lucky Labrador" was their beer was good.

I feel the dog friendly concept is wonderful but it would be nice if they added some outside heaters for the dog area, especially during Portland's cold wet winters.

If you are going to a brew pub, for your money, I feel there are a lot better choices in Portland!

The Lucky Lab is the most relaxing, best atmosphere for any brew pub in the Portland area. The beer is handcrafted and sold only at their pubs and you always find smiles on the customer's faces. The beer is quite good, notably their Black Lab Stout. They also have a very good and reasonable priced pub fare that are mostly vegetarian. And of course, where else can you drink beer and enjoy it with "Man's Best Friend"???

The Lab is for real people; those who enjoy the company of their friends, their friend's dog and the folks at the next table. I rely on the chicken bento with mild peanut curry sauce and the Black Lab Stout. The chicken can sometimes be overcooked but the sauce just kicks. Leave your makeup and cologne at the door, this is a place to BE, not be seen. Show up at the annual Dogtoberfest and wash dogs for charity. Great people, great owners, good food, good beer, no corporate scum...

Lucky Lab is a casual place with a decent enough dog-friendly patio. The interior is really spacious, with tall ceilings sporting exposed materials. This is a good bet for large groups or families with small children. Look for a fine selection of beer and yummy sandwiches. Definitely order the bento (spicy isnt too spicy; its just right) its the best Ive had in town.

This quintessential Portland spot caters to microbrew fans, avid cyclists, and a politically-minded crowd looking for hearty discussion over pints of Hawthorne's Best Bitter. Housed in a converted warehouse, it's the kind of funky, casual…
