The decor is really fun and the place has been around a very long time. People definitely seem to gravitate to the burgers. I had a grilled sandwich and fries, and I have to say, though delicious, the sandwich was a bit greasy and fries

Plenty of different types of food, standard beverages like coffee and hot chocolate, but nothing fancy like lemonade or mochas. very good food.

Pros: good food at a moderate price, quiet, good service

Cons: rather limited beverage selection

Don't get me wrong. too much food is sometimes a good thing. but not in terms of quality. This place is okay for a number of reasons. First you can typically find the owners there. That is a no no. Second the food is okay. the grass fed beef is OKAY. The fish and chips are pretty good. breakfast is not good. there is not even eggs benny on the menu. Potatoes are burned a number of times. Bisquits in the gears are huge. WAY TOO huge. Went to the crab feed this year and found out it was not even fresh crab...it was frozen crab from there seafood distributer...uh for that price is should have been fresh....Like i said this place is okay. its a good place to go if someone just dumped you. you can eat your way to happiness and flirt with the lady server in front who has no one else to talk to and nothing more to clean.

My husband and I go here and split the Moofaletta /Muffaletta(not sure how to spell it) All of the flavors just melt together perfectly. I like the salad, fries, or soup with it. They are all good. I've also had the wings, tuna sandwich, meatloaf, and oyster special. again...amazing.

Great food Industrial Cafe!!

I love this place and have yet to have anything off the menu that wasn't fantastic. Their sausage, biscuits and gravy and the rest of their breakfast fare put Besaw's to shame. Never again will I wait in a 20+ min line for breakfast when I can come down the street and eat here.

For lunch and dinner, they have the best chicken pie. The hot wings--made with smoked chicken wings--are the best I've had in Portland and in my top 3 ever (which is saying something). Not fatty at all--just flavor. Even better with the house-made bleu cheese dressing. Burgers are tasty, too.

All of the meats are locally sourced as well and you can tell when you eat them!

If you're looking for a tasty meal in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place. Definitely an oasis from the sometimes uppity ambiance of 23rd.

Industrial has quickly become a favorite of mine and my housemates. Both times we've visited in the last few months, we've experienced incredible food at very reasonable prices and with great service. Kirsten is an enthusiastic and fun-loving server and she even remembered us from our previous visit a couple months back. She will tell you her honest opinion about each menu item as well, which is greatly appreciated. The macaroni and cheese is the best I've ever had--there must be a half-pound of cheese in there! If you don't suffer from high cholesterol, I highly suggest it. ;-) The muffaletta sandwich was delicious, as was the corn chowder, chicken pot-pie (of course), and everything else we've tried. In fact, it's so good that we all just share our meals with each other so everyone gets to try each item. Service is quick and friendly, food is wonderful, location is good, and the prices are right. Try Industrial...it won't let you down.

The Industrial Cafe and saloon is a terrific spot for a great lunch. They have lots of comfort foods and some less traditional, like the jalapeno salad...tasty. They also make a killer bloody mary if you so choose to indulge.

If you live in NW PDX close to Industrial Cafe you have been there. If you have not you are missing out. This is a great hole in the wall place. They have terrific breakfasts and real homecooked dinners. During crab season they have a big crab feed. The interior is very industrial feeling - hence the name

I live off Raleigh, so I normally walk there with a neighbor or friends. I tell everyone about this place, and advise them to order the muffaletta sandwich, but have not written a review yet.....was telling my friend in Oklahoma about it this morning, and he suggested a review...so here I am. Its the least I can do for such a friendly staff.
I am a muffaletta addiction specialist. My name is Melody. The bread is phenom, the tapenade necessary, the variety of meats on the sandwich enviable to all in the sandwich industry. I'm just guessing.
I'm not a potato fan, and don't care for fries, but always order with the sandwich, as they are the absolute best.
I always take a friend, as there is way too much food for one person, and we split the muffaletta, some fries, and a beer may or may not be involved. If it is, it is served in a glass colder and frostier than my heart, with the precision of a good saloon, it hits the spot, and I can continue for another week.
Until the next time, muffaletta! Until the next time.
Melody

We've been regulars at the Industrial for well over three years, since they opened. For us it's like a refuge for homecooking on the nights and weekend mornings when we just can't, for what ever reason, bring ourselves to cook. Among the things we love- the grass-grazed beef (ribeye, burger, take your pick), the chicken potpie, the mac & cheese.. almost anything that comes off the BBQ grill they periodically wheel out onto the walk. The portions are always generous and the prices, especially for the quality of the food, are quite reasonable.

As far as the staff is concerned, we are huge fans... they can be casual but there's no way any of them would ever be brusque, much less rude, without considerable provocation. We have two very large and, to us, very lovable that we always bring with us when weather permits. They know the place and love the waiters (and the beef) as much as we do.

Finally, I can't imagine anybody being oblivious enough to think this is a place for kids - the design is industrial: hard surfaces, sharp corners, tables obviously designed for adults. If Serena's husband needs a place for kids with a happy hour (?????) I suggest he try any of the McCormick & Schmick's establishments.

If you're looking for a genuinely Portland place with wonderful food, an affordable/drinkable wine list, good brews, and decent cost... the Industrial should be at the top of your list.

My boyfriend took me here for breakfast one weekend and since we have been going about every other weekend since. The food is so tasty, and they don't skimp out on anything. I don't know her name but she is blonde and is usually working when we go on the weekends, she is an awesome server, very sociable and friendly.

If you are looking for a friendly neighborhood kitchen away from home, you will find it here. They have been our second kitchen since moving to Portland, and we have never had a bad experience, food or service wise, Unusual in inconsistent Portland restaurants. From great simple breakfasts, (2 big buttermilk pancakes, yum!) to a reasonably priced steak dinner from their own beef you can't go wrong here. Lately they have been having some great specials like grilled Corvina, a lovely whitefish from Mexico with risotto cakes, all very nicely done at a great price. It is a comfortable place to dine alone, and I was surprised to see the review by the family who had a bad experience. Although it is a bar, we often see families there and have never noticed bad treatment of them, they are usually treated just like everyone else here as part of the Industrial family. Who takes a 4 year old to a bar or saloon for their birthday anyway? Check it out for a friendly neighborhood no pretense experience.

I love this place. It is excellent for lunch as well as weekend brunch. As far as not being kid friendly, you are parents. KEEP YOUR KIDS OUT OF BARS!!!!! However, I have been there when it is appropriate to bring your children into the restaurant (before 5 PM) and they have been exceptionally accommodating to parents as well as their children- almost to the detriment of the rest of the patrons. It's small. Intimate if you will. However, you will always find friendly service, excellent food and a hearty pour of the drink.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying many breakfast/brunches on the weekends, a few lunches during the week, and have nothing but great things to say about the decor, staff, and of course the food. I'm personally critical of food preparation and customer service having over 15 years of restaurant experience myself. One of my favorite places to visit and share with friends and family.
Keep in mind, the name of the establishment is "Industrial Cafe and Saloon", not "Red Robin" or "Chucky Cheese", thus it would be a poor choice to bring a child there for their birthday. (I'm surprised that has to be addressed) So yes, daddy can get his booze fix during happy hour, however there are no people in fuzzy costumes, video games, playground, or toys to play with.
The owners are great people, generous, and the staff is more than competent. I highly suggest their "Crab Feed" they have occasionally. Keep up the good work and see you next week!

Cons: None I can think of.

Industrial Cafe has great, inexpensive food. Definitely not a kid-friendly restaurant...But perfect for dinner for two on the cheap. The beef is from the owner's own herd, so grass fed from start to finish. In the spring they have an all you can eat crab feed, lots of fun and messy to boot. I highly recommend this place, don't forget to check the urinal out!

I dropped in for lunch and decided to try the muffaletta sandwich - wow! For $8 with a generous portion of surprisingly good fries, I had a wonderful and reasonably priced meal. There was plenty of nearby street parking (25th and Vaughn isn't exactly a hot spot), and the service was good.

I haven't seen a muffaletta anywhere else in Portland, and it's the perfect thing to have someone *else* make for you. The number of ingredients and difficulty of preparation are not trivial.

We went with our two young daughters because my husband found a "kid-friendly" location with a happy hour. The happy hour is only on drinks, not on food and there is no kid menu so we had to order an 8$ burger for our 4-year-old. The music was very quiet, so every sound we/they made was amplified. The other guests were very friendly toward us and our girls, but the server seemed very annoyed. At one point I asked if we could play with the "toys" on the bar, which were clearly there for customer use and again I felt like I was in trouble. The server knew that it was our girl's birthday, and said nothing to her. Perhaps she was just shy, but it's been a long time since I've had a server in Portland that was incapable of small talk. This is a friendly town, and servers even in the nicest restaurants have always been accommodating and nice to our family. This was an extremely uncomfortable experience and the food and price was not worth the atmosphere, the treatment.

Great tasting food, funky industrial decor, large servings make this a fun place for lunch. Walking distance to Montgomery Park.
