Last weekend, I went to eat lunch here with four of my friends. This restaurant has a nice decoration with nice light but it is a little crowded. Also, they have a lot of meals, and I ate a very good lunch and my friends, did too. In fact, the meal that I ate was pasta. I created my own meal with Penne pasta with Alfredo sauce, and I chose some vegetables that I like in the pasta. Also I asked the waiter to add more mozzarella cheese and I chose garden salad with ranch. The service was good and they are not too slow. The waiter bought the salad first and we ate our salad until they finished cooking our meals. When the waiter bought our pasta I had already finished my salad. It was very good salad. Also, my pasta was very good. It was greasy, juicy, and flavorful. My friends and I enjoyed our lunch. It was a great lunch in a great restaurant. My friends and I like Macaroni Grill because it has great service, good food, and a nice atmosphere. Also, it is not too far, and it is no too expensive. It is a reasonable restaurant for me. I like this restaurant and I like its food, so I suggest that every one to eats there.

Macaroni Grill Restaurant
My family and I went to this restaurant last weekend. It has a good location in downtown Portland near the Max, bus and markets. This restaurant serves Italian food. It has many Kinds of pizza and pasta. When we went to it I was very hungry, but I had to wait a long time. I think that the service is very slow, but the waiter was friendly. The waiter helped me with my order. I choose a steak with potato and my wife chose pasta and two kind of pizza for my daughters. In fact I didn??t like all the food and my wife didn??t either because it was too greasy, juicy and rich. I think this restaurant is overpriced. When we went I didn??t see many people inside. I think if you see many people in any restaurant, maybe that gives us the message the restaurant has good food. That is my opinion about Macaroni Grill restaurant, but if some people like greasy food they should go to Macaroni Grill restaurant. Also I don??t have a lot of experience or information about Italian food.

In the last Sunday, my family and I ate our dinner in a great restaurant called Macaroni Grill. It is an Italian restaurant. It has many kinds of Italian food. In my opinion it is a good restaurant because of many reasons. First of all, its location is in downtown and there are many bus stops near it. Then, the service is very fast and excellent. Also, the atmosphere is fancy. It is very organized and modern. The lighting is very dim. There is a nice music. The priced is reasonable not too expensive. Our order was three different kinds of dishes. One of them it is called Chicken Parmigiana. It was juicy and flavorful. The second one it is called Fettuccine Alfredo. It is kind of pasta. It was also rich and flavorful. The last one it is called Shrimp Portofino, which was fresh and delicious. I think you should go to eat in this restaurant.

Well, I have read a lot of reveiws for the Macaroni Grill and I have noticed that the "bad" Macaroni Grill restaurants are at the Clackamas location. I have been to the one Downtown on Yamhill street and it is excellent. I recommend it for anyone. So go to the one on Yamhill downtown, they have excellent service, delicious food, and are always accomodating.

I wanted to try this place, and now wish I hadn't. The food was way overpriced and very mediocre. The portions sucked - I spent a bunch of money on dinner for two, then had to go home and eat a bag of microwave popcorn because I was still hungry.

The waiter, a hulking twenty-something with a goatee, was snooty, rude, and abrasive. The first thing he did was walk up to the table and abruptly snatch the bottle of oil, interrupting our conversation. Then he dumped some on a plate and started maniacally grinding pepper into it. He explained that it was "Italian butter" like he was some kind of culinary genius who had invented dipping bread in oil. The meal went downhill from there.

I had the marsala ravioli - I had to pay extra for the salad which turned out not to be worth it. I got about seven little raviolis - I'm not kidding. The sauce, which tasted so-so, had the consistency of water. I left still hungry, and feeling like I'd gotten ripped off. That's just how I like to leave a restaurant - hungry, in a foul mood and feeling like a schmuck!

Situated near Clackamas Town Center, this blight represents everything wrong with the oh-so-pretentious suburban sprawl. Save your time, save your money, save your stomach, and avoid this pathetic imitation of Italian dining.

The food there is fantastic; also the price is not too expensive. If you order the set menu, the price is about $11 to $15 dollars. And there are two kinds of appetizers that you can choose. One is Caesar Salad. Another is Garden Salad. Both of them have delicious sauce, but the quantity of the Garden Salad is more than the Caesar Salad. Also they have many kinds of entree which you can choose. One of the entrees is pasta; and one of the entrees is lasagna. I remember that the last time we went to eat at this restaurant, we couldn?t finish our entree. The quantity of the entree was too much. Also the boy couldn?t finish it. They also have desserts which are chocolate cake and Italian sorbet. The chocolate cake was very delicious but rich. Last time I ordered an Italian sorbet, it was a really nice end to my dinner. In addition to the set menu, if you are the person who has birthday; they will give you a birthday cake which is the same as the chocolate cake.
I don?t like the atmosphere and the service there. Last time I went there, it was too crowded and noisy. There were whole bunches of people waiting outside to eat a meal. And it was also full of the people inside the restaurant. You have to wait for a long time, and then the host will take you to the seats. It is very noisy inside the restaurant. Some people sing and some people laugh. If you want to talk with your friends, you have to speak loudly. After you get a seat and order the food, the waiter there will bring the food to you very fast. Sometimes although you haven?t finished the dish yet, they will bring you the next dish. It?s not good in their atmosphere and service.
Even though I like the food there, I won?t go there and eat again. Based on those reasons, I don?t think it?s a nice restaurant for me. I don?t like the restaurant which is too crowded and noisy. Also the service was not very good. I will try other restaurants next time.

We just ate at the Macaroni Grill and had Todd as our server. Not only did he have a friendly, warm and funny personality, he was an excellent server. Anything we asked for he was there in a flash, checking in to see if we needed anything and that our meal was made to perfection!! My mother was also celebrating her birthday and he truly made our experience delightful. If only all service industry folks would take a lesson from Todd, dinning out would be a daily ritual. Thanks Todd!!!

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. We have NEVER had a bad meal, have eaten at this chain for years and eaten at all locations. We are pasta nuts and the pasta is tremendous! The Grill wait staff is normally "right on". Highly recommend for large parties as well as intimate evenings. The one and only down-side is that the weekends are TERRIBLY tough to get in and seated. We had one instance last summer at Bridgeport where the wait was "3 hours" so we had to bag it and choose another place to eat. Week nights are easier, of course.

This is perhaps the very WORST restaurant in the city! At a dinner earlier this year, our apathetic teenage waiter brought us a DIRTY spinach salad, burnt and shriveled chicken, and tried to charge us extra for "larger" chicken breasts he chose to order for us without asking! They also have no alternatives for gluten-sensitive patrons, and service is slow and with poor attitude. Food is tasteless, dirty, or poorly-prepared.

I wanted to take a minute to write about the exceptional service that we received at the Macaroni Grill on Yamhill in downtown Portland. A friend of mine was planning an engagement party for my fiance and I, along with approximately 30 guests. She had originally made a reservation at a different restaurant also in downtown Portland, however they were unaccomodating and somewhat rude. We needed to find a new place to reserve with only a couple days notice. She called Macaroni Grill, and the manager Jordan was polite and agreed to make a reservation for us. We were very happy to have a reservation for such a great restaurant and especially with such short notice. When we arrived on the evening of the party the staff was very helpful and polite. I have been to Macaroni Grill a number of times and am always impressed with the food as well as the excellent service. Delicious!!

Service was poor, perhaps because we chose to eat at the bar. Regardless, certain things were not automatic as they should have been, ie., cream & sugar & utensils for tea and coffee, After a fair wait time, our food was served luke warm and my husband's chicken was tough like leather on the ends. I chose to send mine back to be properly heated while my husband chose to eat his because he was very hungry. Mine was returned only slightly warmer. To add insult to injury, the young man sitting next to us and who arrived after we did, received his food from the young waitress within just a few minutes. There was no compensation given for this inconvenience (a comp for a drink or dessert w/have been appropriate) and no apology for either the wait or the inconvenience. I chalk it up to young, inexperienced servers and while we may be only sort of hip w/gray hair, we do have money to spend and it won't be at Romano's Macaroni Grill.

Ours was a birthday meal...the waitress was very accommodating and fun. The food was wonderful.. And the birthday song in Italian by an opera student was the best touch! The only concern...watch for those add-ons... without realizing it (and without being told there was a difference), we added fifteen dollars to our bill by accepting the salad modification suggested by the waitress. All in all...a great experience!

Build your own pasta is surprisingly good and dirt cheap. Both tomato sauces are great. Bread and olive oil good, awesome value. HINT: order as many ingredients as you want, I've never been questioned. Classy.

My wife and I ate here for a late lunch and got rude service. The restaurant was not busy. We were seated near the front doors, when requesting for a back table. When taking our order, the waitress had to take a seat across the table from us, as if talking to us on a "deeper level". She then poured oil on the plate, yet never returned with our bread. I had to ask for some by another staff. Our order 1st came messed up, but quickly fixed. The waitress was not tenitive to us, and we felt neglected. The food how ever was good as always. We love italian food, and this place is good. Always driving by it in down town Portland, we thought this one would be like the others, but it isn't. If you want a good Macoronni Grill, go to Lake Oswego.

After being seated, waitress asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said "no thanks". She said "Not even water?" I said "no thanks". She said "I'll bring you water". Why even bother asking if she won't follow my wishes? I had the margherita pizza and it was not good: tomatoes were not at all fresh, crust not fully done, strange taste too. I won't return. I avoid chains and anything called a "family" restaurant, but it was my brother's choice. There is far better pizza in town for 10% more at places such as Ken's Artisan or Apizza Scholls.

This restaurant chain is a step up from the Olive Garden (quality and price), but it's still very Americanized. The Shrimp diablo is great, but other seafood dishes have tasted less than fresh.

First, I love that each table is covered in paper with crayons for you to color with. Though this is a chain restaurant, it is great 8 times out of 10 all around. Service is always fast and pleasant. For drinks, the Bellini is a bit over the top in size, I wish they would scale it down. For appetizers, the mushroom ravioli with sauce is phenomenal. I would even recommend it as a main course. For main courses, the chicken ceasar salad & halibut are great, though the risotto that comes with the halibut is too salty. one of my few negative experiences was when I ordered the steak toped with blue cheese, which the waiter recommended. The steak was luke warm and the side of mashed potatoes was cold in the middle. Dessert wise, the chocolate cake is sooo good. For something so simple and average sounding, they do a great job with the ganache, which is warm & cocoa scented. Pure Bliss. Presentation is also nice. This is a good place for kinds and large parties too.

Three of us went for lunch, meeting at ll:30 to avoid the rush. The waiter was very good at avoiding us....the service SLOW....we had to finally flag someone down to get our check. When we left the restaurant it was 1:00....1 1/2 hours for a a average tasting lunch....better eating choices elseware in the mall!

Does anybody out there that likes bruchetta like the bread so soggy it's like 24 hour old strawberry shortcake? Is it meant to be eaten with a spoon? I had one simple request. Make it separate. It is not common sense that hot toast + liquid + a lid makes a steamy soggy terrible mess? One would think so. Being a downtown business owner for 15 years I'm used to terrible to go food, it's usually the chains with the average food that do a better job...in this case I would rather pay a cab driver to pick up food from Olive Garden and deliver it to me than walk three blocks to this joint. The macaroni has cheese like 7-11's, the lettuce for the salad was brown, and we already discussed the sog pile. :( Terrible. Oh, and this was at 2:30, AFTER the lunch rush

I liked the fact that you can draw with color crayons on the paper table cloths. It was really fun. The ambience was wonderful, lighting was perfect. The staff was really sweet too. I didnt like their blackberry drink that I got and they let me switch to lemonade, no problems. The bread was kind of gross though.

My wife and I had made reservations for a Saturday evening. We were seated after just ten minutes of wainting, which wasn't too long. The noise of the crowd of patrons there was, I thougt, exciting. Everyone had a high energy level of enthusiasm. The veal masala that I had was good, though my wife had returned her entre' of "shrimp tomato something or other" back to the kitchen, in exchange for lobster ravioli. A better choice.
Great house Chianti was self serve from the bottle, and the loaf of oven baked bread before the meal was served as well. My wife and I had an enjoyable time, and the prices of the entre's were comparable to Olive Garden and other high occupancy restaurants in Portland. If you enjoy large excitable crowds and eager to please wait persons in a Downtown atmosphere, then you too will enjoy yourselves there.

Pros: Exciting crowd, Tasty food, People watching

Cons: Parking, No privacy

I came here with a friend while shopping. I was not in the mood for italian food but it turned out to be such a great experience! the waitress was so cool and accomidating. It was packed and we sat at a very small table for two. By the end of lunch we were talking to the two tables right next to us and enjoying a birthday cake even though my birthday was last week.

Couldn't wait to eat here because of all that I'd heard. Very disappointed. The tables in the main dining room were packed so tight that even my skinny 12 year old had trouble squeezing through on the way to our table. Throughout our meal, I and the woman seated behind me kept bumping each other as there was less than an inch of space between us. I can't tell you how many plates were dropped by the waitstaff trying to navigate through the dining room!
Lobster Ravioli sounded good on the menu but had the funkiest sauce I'd ever tasted. Downright nasty.
All in all, a waste of $75 + tip.

This place is great! The food is very very tasty and the staff are great. My mouth is watering now thinking about how yummy the food is. The build your own pasta bowl is a great treat and everything else I've tried has been wonderful. The portions are generous.

PROS: Great Food
CONS: The seating is close and can be uncomfortable

I have been to multiple Macaroni Grills from Oregon, Washington, and even one in Arizona; and by far this is my favorite location. The building itself is magnificent your greeted with a warm fireplace and homey hardwoods in the bar and beautiful beam work in the main dining room. The waiters are all there to help you have an enjoyable evening out with a spark of fun and opera singing throughout the night. The chiefs busy at work back in the kitchen where you can watch them chop, dice, flip and toss the food around in a whorl wind of colors and speed. But most important of all the comfort food is abundant. From the warm herb bread, and for main dishes, Create Your Own Pasta (where you can only blame you yourself) to my favorite dish the lobster ravioli this by far is my favorite Restaurants in Portland.

Good Italian comfort food for low prices but don't expect anything to be particulalry great here. Its perfectly fine but the tone of the place is set by the fact that there are crayons on the table (which I personally love).

I think they took to heart some complaints about slow service, but took it to the extreme. Our dinner conversation was consistenly interrupted by the wait staff trying to serve our entres, as the waiter put it "within 6 minutes of the salad". Though we were expected to pick up the pace, apparently they didn't need to prepare one of our entres correctly as requested. The smug waiter had our food in to-go containers before I put my fork down!

I have only been to this restaurant once, but I was very impressed. The atomosphere is very classy and sophisticated. The food is amazing as well. I also liked how professional the servers were and how polite they were as well. I will be back to this restaurant because I had such a positive experience. I even recommended it to all of my friends and family!

Macaroni Grill is a restaurant with an identity crisis - and one I like, the other I hate:
Good pasta and fresh salad - drowned in sauces
Beautiful surroundings - rude and apathetic staff
Wine on the table - paper tablecloths and crayons?
Full staff on a slow day - 1 hour to get the main course?
Fantastic looking dessert tray - check on the table before I see it

Well, you get the idea. I think Macaroni Grill loves itself more than others will love it. That said, I'm sure with its downtown location and yuppie pretentiousness that it will be a staple for some time to come. I love what it wants to be.. and I'm sure I'll be back to check up on it.

It was my first time eating at this chain and I must say the food was decent, however the service was not. The wait time (on a Saturday night) was roughly 45-1 hour, so I anticipated better. The decor is not bad, I like the fact the kitchen is in open view for everyone to look at. The waitresses / waiters are well dressed but paid very little attention to our table.

Gotta feel bad for the servers here who have to cover for food which is way overpriced and poor in quality.
Both times I have been here the pasta dishes were rubbery and the pizza lacked flavor and was spongy.
This is a chain that is obviously trying to sell something other than good food.
Spiffy uniforms? fancy lighting? dunno
You can getter better food in the freezer section of your supermarket.

This place is lame. Went on a very slow night. Servers spent the evening chatting among themselves. Entree was brought within 45 seconds of ordering it. Compliments to the microwave. Server appeared once more 15 minutes after that to see if we wanted our food boxed. We really just wanted our water refilled and a glass of wine.
Food portions are tiny. For such an overstaffed evening, terrible and infrequent service. In a town brimming with italian fare, you aren't missing anything here.

We loved Macaroni Grills in Houston TX and had missed their ambience and menu, so we made a special trip into Portland just to relive our wonderful memories there in 2000-2002. However, this one did not live up to our expectations at all. Firstly, while it is a beautiful restaurant, it didn't look like the other Macaroni's and it most definitely did not have the energy and ambience of the others. The food was the main disappointment. Our favorites seemed to lack flavor. We left feeling let down and that we would probably not come back.

The service here is wonderful, however, I have been to two other Mac. Grill restaurants in other states and the food here in Portland doesn't measure up. The pasta dish was a little too creamy and the italian meatloaf had so much salt, I could feel my blood pressure rise when I finished. Not sure why it is different. It is still a good family value.

Drinks are pretty reasonable and the happy hour menu is under 4.00. The bartenders are fun, drinks are great. This place gets packed. The best seats are around the fireplace in the bar.

Sad but true..the happy hour menu is only in the bar.

Dined on Sunday, September 12. When we arrived it was quite crowded. We had made a reservation and were seated quite quickly. Mistakenly ordered the Calamari which was overcooked and had the consistency of rubber bands. Meals were quite good and service acceptable. Don't go for an intimate setting. Quite noisy in all areas of the restaurant.

Very good food. I used to dine at one in Arlington TX, and was thrilled to have one open in Portland. It's kinda odd that they've separated the appetizers in Portland by seating...For example, their awesome italian nachos can only be ordered in the bar area! What a bummer for those sitting at a table. "Sorry sir, you have to sit over there to have those." Huh?
