We went on a weekend and got there right before the rush (around 8:30). The waitstaff was a little overworked and it took a while to order, but once we did the food was up pretty quick.

I thought they did a great job on the breakfast. They had a fantastic assortment of fruits that came with my breakfast and the challah toast was great.

I enjoyed the decor, especially the paintings, and it was a nice day to look out the window at people walking about, although this was eventually obscured by those milling about waiting to hear their name called.

I ate breakfast at about 11am on November 30th and when we arrived there was one two top in the restaurant and the place was otherwise empty, the waitress in an annoyed manner told us to sit anywhere so we sat at the booth and she asked us to move. Slightly confused and a little bothered by the fact that the restaurant was empty, we moved to a rickety table. The waitress continuted to be snotty and seems to not like her job or maybe just doesn't like to be nice to people. Bummer. I have been frequenting Cricket for years but I will make a point to not go again, based on this experience. Very unprofessional and unkind, our food order was messed up twice, and there was no one even in there but us! No excuse for this, coming from myself, a server who likes my job and likes my customers.

Ate at Cricket Cafe on November 30 for breakfast. The server was not friendly and came across as someone who obviously doesn't like her job or the customers. Plates and water glass was covered in oily fingerprints and looked gross. Food was good. The table I sat at was broken and wobbley and piled next to it was the bus bins holding dirty dishes that smelled of old sour milk. This was my second chance for the Criket Cafe and they failed. I suggest they clean up the place and bring in new waitstaff.... There are plenty of other places on Belmont skip the Cricket.

While visiting Portland, my friend Megan told me about Cricket Cafe and the great food. I was amazed by the menu, so many unique breakfast offerings and cocktails to pair with Breakfast! Of course great coffee drinks too. I'd recommend: The Saints Hash Go on late on weekday to guarantee a table and pray you get Jessie as your server. She is the atmosphere.

This little cafe in SE has been a favorite breakfast spot for years. It is somewhat small so space fills up quickly. Any scramble you go for is delicious. In the warmer months you can sit outside and take in the scene.

OMG. That's all I can say. Get there early - tiny cafe, waiting room is outside. Great breakfast fare, however, for little dollar. The Red Mill Cinnamon pancakes were my favorite.

I really want to like this place, but with the exception of one waitress who has been there forever, I've had too many encounters with rude wait staff. The food is ok, but nothing to write home about. Maybe the appeal is the alcoholic beverage.

I can't believe all the negative reviews I've been reading about the Cricket. My boyfriend and I love this place. The food is fresh tasting and delicious. When my family came to visit I took them here and they also loved it.The eggs florentine is my favorite with a side of veg sausage. The eggs are always perfectly poached. The restaurant is small so expect a wait on the weekends. The service has been great everytime but the food is why I keep going back. Definitely give this Portland gem a try.

I love the food and the Bloody Mary's are worth every penny. You may run into a bit of a wait on the weekends but other than that, I have no complaints. The customer service is great here.

First, a seemingly petty point, and a sweeping generalization with which I feel absolutely comfortable:

Nobody who knows anything about food refrigerates tomatoes.
And nobody who knows anything about customer service charges someone $2.20 to put 3 tiny slices of said tomato on a bagel (or, rather, a bagel-shaped piece of enriched white bread).
For that matter, nobody I know charges $7.75 for (mediocre) biscuits and gravy. That's supposed to to be the poor man's standby!
I should point out here that the staff are sweet, genuinely gracious people with whom I have no quarrel. And most of the food is passable, if unimpressive and overpriced. But the individual who designed that menu belongs in a cubicle, not a kitchen.

About a month ago, I moved into a house one block away from this establishment. Normally, one visit would've been plenty - but I have a broken leg, and the proximity is just too tempting. But after 5 visits and significant healing, I can say without question I will never again waste my money at the Cricket Cafe.
The place suffers from the following flaw in culinary logic, rampant in Portland:

If you take time-honored, classic American dishes, ad some ingredients that make for attractive adjectives on the menu, and jack the price up beyond reason, you will have achieved a "gourmet" twist on those classic dishes.
It just doesn't work that way.

I have been a loyal customer to the cricket for over 4 yrs, until '08. If you are a vegetarian do not go to this place as they lie about using veggie sausage in their 'vegetarian' dishes. I am sick and tired of going there and asking for veggie sausage in a dish and having them serve me meat. Do they think this is funny? Or maybe just a way to cut corners on cost.

For someone who has not eaten meat in over 10 years, I think I would know the difference. Not to mention the way it has been prepared is completely different. Watch out.. they will cut the veggie sausage into chunks - if all of the 'meat' is loose in your dish with nothing that looks like it has been cut you should be careful as every time it has turned out to be real meat... I know they may have changed their product but I have already checked on this a few times with them and apparently they haven't.

They acknowledged their mistake the first two times and replaced the meal (but didn't comp anything even when asked!) The other times after that -with myself and some friends later on the server said we just couldn't tell the difference. Tell that to the stomachs as my friends were all either throwing up had the .... and/or was in pain from having to digest the meat their bodies were not used to processing. One person even went to the doctor for not feeling well. I didn't even eat my dish and warned them all not to. The four of them were placated by the server telling them that people get confused all the time. (Not the first time I had heard that!)

I am so sad about this as I do not want to let this place go but until they stop using bacon grease and meat under this 'vegetarian friendly' joint I cannot go back. Not to mention that I got blown off when I rang them about this. That is the only reason that I am posting this here - so people can be aware of this restaurant's concern for honesty and your own individual dietary needs. Lets hope there is no pork in that bs meat.

Pros: Used to be nice

Cons: Apathetic service and chefs

I used to love this breakfast spot and frequent it often since moving to Portland 3 yrs. ago. In the last 6 months to a year I have completely STOPPED GOING HERE. I was disappointed with my order being wrong once and chalked it up to it being a bad day for them (or me maybe). Tried to go again and the same things happened, my order was wrong again. I figured 3rd times a charm, surely it can't be awful three times in a row. It turns out that surely it can! My order was correct this time but the atmosphere was terrible, so bad I will not return. The server was obnoxious flirting with cooks and actually yelling across the restaurant in conversation to them so much I couldn't hear my friend across the table. I've never wanted to leave a bad, or no, tip this bad before. I suggest you spend your money someplace that makes you feel like you're doing each other a service instead of making one fell they are a nuisance.

ok so seriously...i know a glass of water can be daunting...asking for it twice and then having to ask a different server for it is a little insane. This happened with every part of the service, from ordering to begging for our check so we could leave. The food is decent, but NO food is good enough to be ignored and treated so poorly.
Stay away from this place...or better yet order to go. Oh yeah and a dollar add on charge to change the cheese from mozzarella to swiss...that is just greedy or lazy.

You know that breakfast spot on Belmont where you hang out/wait, then you get the best darn bloody and eggs benny, then you wonder why so many others may have knocked this joint for service and some other obscure crud that happens at every other PDX breakfast nook? yea you know.. the good one.
If yall are too hungry, angry, or downright dumb to figure out that part of going out for breakfast in this town is getting up to get your own cup of coffee and waiting in line just like everyone else, everywhere else.
If you don't get it then Fast food is your muse and you deserve it like the rest of the sheep.
Go have some oatmeal cinnamon pancakes here.. they are big and fluffy with lots of butter and real maple syrup.. that should take your mind off the wait.

In contrast with the other reviews I have always had amazing food and amazing service. It is a little cramped in there but it is worth it. They have an amazing breakfast drink selection including a habanero Bloody Mary that brings a tear of joy to my eye every time it is delivered. The bacon and bleu cheese omelet is great, they make their eggs in a way that reminds me of home cooking.
All around quality breakfast dining.

i work a block away from this place and decided to try it one afternoon during my lunch. It wasn't even busy and I had to wait 5 minutes to even be acknowledged. finally a waitress told me to sit wherever I wanted. I waited another five minutes then got up and got my own menu. after 10 minutes she came to take my order. My order came out wrong, but I decided not to say anything because I my lunch was almost over. The food was below average and I was kicking myself for spending 9 bucks on a burger when I could have had a WAY better one off a dollar menu somewhere and it would be fast! ha. I'm not the kind of person that takes time to write reviews, but I felt it my duty to warn my fellow portlanders. The food is gross and the service is awful. Save your money and time. It always looks pretty busy on sunday mornings. Maybe there breakfast is a different story. I'll never know, but I highly doubt it.

The food is good, but not great. The service on the other hand is pretty weak. They are nice enough, but not willing to do too much to improve your dining experience. I brought my parents one time, telling them that this was one of the best breakfast places around. We waited outside (this was winter) and helped ourselves to free coffee. After 15 to 20 minutes, a couple of guys bypassed us and got seated immediately. We told the server that we were next and he said that the guys who walked in were his family members. We were pretty irritated. He didn't really care.

I've tried to give the Cricket a good chance, but they have failed consistently in every way possible. I once went in the door to see that it was suprisingly empty. After standing in the doorway for a couple of minutes without any response from the wait staff we decided to sit down. That is exactly when the staff decided to notice we were there, because they told us we had to sign up on the list and wait for a table. This was a bit confusing, as there were at least 6 empty tables around us. Well, we chocked this time up to us learning the way the staff likes to run the restaurant. The second time we went, we signed up on the list right away and were seated after a wait. One of the main problems with this place is the seating. They try to pack WAY too many tables into that tiny little space. I was actually bumping elbows with the neighboring table! Also, if anyone wanted to leave their table, they had to interrupt your meal, so they could squeeze by. The service is never that great... I had to beg them to give me more coffee, and they seem irritated that you are eating at their restaurant. I vowed to never go back. My girlfriend decided to take my brother and his wife there a while later. They joked about how I told them I would never go back. Well they learned the lesson the hard way. They put their name on the list, and waited for about 30 minutes, and saw a group walk up that was obviously either the "cool kids" or one of the waiters friends, because they immediately got a table. My brother asked the waitress why they got to jump into the front of the line and thats when she Kicked My Brother Out of the Restaurant! She said she didn't like his attitude and he should immediately leave. What the hell is wrong with the staff here??? Like another of the reviewers said. Aren't they working for tips? If I were the owner I'd fire every single one of you scenesters.

I read the previous reviews, but I have had nothing but wholly positive experiences at Cricket in the half dozen or so times I have eaten there over the last year. The eggs florentine has the most delicious hollandaise sauce in Portland. I appreciate that most things on the menu have a vegan or vegetarian alternative. I have never had any problems with the cleanliness or service. It's a place I always take visitors and my parents when they are in town.

I have tried on several occasions to support this local spot, and every time, without fail, I get the rudest service. The waitstaff acts like they don't work for tips and hopefully they don't. I RARELY get my order back correctly, or in a timely manner. THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE WAIT!!! REGARDLESS OF HOW HUNGOVER YOU ARE, YOUR BETTER OFF SPENDING THE 40 MIN OF WAIT TIME COOKING YOURSELF!!!!!

I went to Cricket for the first time this morning. I wish I'd had a better experience because I'd heard good things. A small group (4) of us went to Cricket for breakfast. We got there early and so were seated quickly. There were about eight flies hovering around the main walkway through the restaurant and over our table. We had to shoo them away periodically. The waitresses made no attempt to get rid of them or apologize for them. When the food came out it was good - my buttermilk pancake looked overdone but was actually perfectly crispy on one side and was very pleasant. My eggs were done the way I like them. Other people expressed that they liked the food. Our waitress sloshed a not-small amount of water onto the table when refilling my friend's glass and didn't apologize or make any effort to clean up, just walked away. Other waitresses were friendly and helpful. The main problem with our visit was the cleanliness of the place. The floors were FILTHY - you could see dirty bootprints, coffee stains, food swept to the corners, grease, oil, sugar.... I actually skidded on my way walking to the bathroom because there was so much debris and grit on the floor. Pretty unappealing. I don't mind a normal amount of traffic dirt that you would see in a normal restaurant, and I don't expect it to be sterile and gleaming, but this was far and above beyond a normal level of dirt. If it was that nasty in their common spaces, it made me cringe to think of what the kitchen was like. I would go back to Cricket again if I heard that they made an effort to keep their restaurant clean (see another post in which a hair was found on top of an omelet), but otherwise I'll head elsewhere. An otherwise fine experience ruined by pretty low cleanliness standards that make you start looking suspiciously at your pancakes.....

My husband and I went to the Cricket on Sunday afternoon (2:00pm) to have a little brunch / linner and thought we'd get a table pretty fast (the host said it would be 10-15 minutes). Our name was finally called 45 minutes later which was longer than we had wanted (tummies growling) but hey, it's a Sunday. I order the Veggie Skillet vegan style (tofu sub, no cheese or sour cream, added veggie sausage) and it was very good! I was quite surprised. There was a little more oil than I would have wanted, swimming at the bottom of the bowl but the skillet was perfectly seasoned and the veggie sausage was yummy. My husband had the Cricket omlette with soy bacon and veggie gravy and he liked it (it's big so prepare to take some home, small eaters). I tried the veggie gravy off his plate and loved it, yummy! So overall, I give the food high marks, the wait a stinky thumbs down, and the service a "meh".

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian friendly

Cons: the dreaded weekend wait

Definitely NOT the place for vegetarians, or people wanting decent service. After realizing my favorite breakfast spot on Belmont was closed (Utopia), my sister, toddler girl, and I decided to go to Cricket Cafe. I was hesitant, as I have NEVER had good service or food there, and had vowed to never go back. But, we were hungry, they were open, and I tried to be optimistic - it might be different this time. We were seated right away, but then waited 11 minutes for someone to bring water or offer drinks. My tea came with the loose tea floating in the water, so I requested something to strain it. During my request, I was rudely interrupted with "I'll just need a minute please", with an obviously snippy and kurt reaction. Then, I ordered the Veggie Skillet (sub tofu, well-done, light on the oil). She gave me a condescending smirk and said "I'll try". Apparently that was too much to ask for. My food came and it resembled grease soup in a bowl with mushy tofu (literally, the grease was pooled up in the bottom of the bowl - disgusting). I was never asked how it was. Either she didn't ask the cook to prepare it how I requested, or the cook ignored her request. The cooks DO NOT know how to cook tofu (be patient, let it saute for a while, it takes time). Needless to say, I didn't eat it. We were essentially ignored throughout the rest of the meal. When the server (petite young girl with long curly dark hair) finally asked if we needed a box, I explained that the food was too greasy and I couldn't eat it, so I didn't need a box. She almost started to argue, but then gave a very snooty "I'm sorry" as she took the food away (never even offering to take it off the bill). Every moment of our interaction with the server, I was afraid to say anything, for fear of a being barked at. This is NOT the place for special requests, good vegetarian food, or friendly service. When we left, we chose not to leave a tip - it simply wasn't earned by the server. She should have paid us to stay!

This review goes to show that sometimes people only write when they have something negative to say so I want to start with my previous breakfasts before I tell about my latest. We?ve been to the Cricket Cafe 5 or 6 times in the last year. From service to the meals the experience made us want to come back. My wife likes the Truck Stop burrito, substitute bacon for avocado & beans. She gets it every time. I like the Cricket Omelet (huge & yummy) and Big Farm (2 eggs, a pancake, hash browns & toast). The bagel sandwich is also good. I have tried the eggs Benedict, but the hollandaise sauce was not very good. Their oatmeal pancakes are great. If you like pancakes get them, you won't be disappointed. I have to mention their coffee, which is not good. I understand cafe coffee, but theirs is too far below acceptable.

Last Saturday: Maybe it was just a one time thing, but it makes me understand the other negative reviews here. Ours was ridiculously bad. It started with the avocado on my wife's Truck Stop, which was 80%+ brown & black (and it's a $1.55 upgrade!). The waitress was nice about getting a fresh replacement, no problem. When she got back she brought my omelet, which had a black hair on top. I pointed it out and again, she took it back with no fuss. She said (and I quote), ?I will get you a new one.? I was a line cook and I realize that sometimes these things just happen. Tell the cook to 911 another omelet, no harm no foul. 3 minutes later she brings another omelet and says, ?here is a fresh omelet, sorry about that.? No problem, but when I bite in its cold. Huh? Oh, they didn?t just scrape off the sauce and put it on new plate did they? Yes they did and now it's cold. I?ll just tell the waitress... and my wife needs more sour cream. Where?d she go? Oh, she?s sitting down talking to friends 2 tables over. 15 minutes later she brings the check and asks us if we need any boxes. No thanks.

Pros: The food, most of the time

Cons: oatmeal pancakes, coffee

I had a great experience at this neighborhood cafe. The food was well prepared and prompt. I got a the veggie buiscuits and gravy. The buscuit were, quite simply, wonderful and the gravy was thick and flavorful. The wait staff was great and not in that showy BS way. My waitress, with the recycle tattoo, was competent and pleasant. I would highly recommend this place, but you should go early on the weekends as the wait gets longer later.

After visiting the Cricket twice in the last two weeks I'm very disappointed. This place is favorite among friends and I'm hoping that it was just bad luck on both occasions. The first time I went I ordered the Challah french toast. When I got it it was under cooked. I figured I'd just eat the edges of the bread but when I stuck my fork in to take a bite raw egg squirted out. It was disgusting! The server kindly took the cost of my meal off the bill and that was the only real highlight. Also my hashbrowns tasted like bacon or sausage grease. Not great for vegetarians. My 2nd visit I went for stand-by's of a scrambled egg, hashbrowns and a danish. The hashbrowns still tasted like meat. And though the other items were fine my coffee was horrible. It had a strong chemical taste and my friend thought maybe the dishwasher filter was dirty. When I said something to the server she mentioned other patrons had complained of this and offered free espresso drinks. That was okay, and for the most part the service there is good. But I'm going to wait awhile before I try the Cricket Cafe again.

I just went here today for the first time and it was amazing! The staff was super friendly and the food was probably some of the best I have ever had. I don't know why most people are so down on this place. I was shocked by some of the bad reviews. I went on a Saturday at 2:30 and was seated in about 5 minutes. I think anyone who is not a complainer should check it out.

Everything we love about Portland can be spotted at Cricket: greasy (but delicious) food, very personable servers, good coffee, and a long wait in the cold. The hipsters are funny, too. It takes half an hour to be seated because Cricket is one of the very best places in this city to get breakfast. The wait is always worth it. Meat lovers and vegans must never feel deprived because there are meat/veggie versions of everything and ingredients can easily be swapped. We've never had a bad meal there, and the Irish coffee is strong. So, get up early, or enjoy your wait in line with some hot coffee.

I live very close to Cricket and for years have just acepted that you should never go on a weekend unless you don't want to eat till the next day and that you should actually apologize to the servers for having the b**** to expect good service, or any. But recent renovations of the space and the menu have changed most of that. They have really polished the service and the interior, while keeping most of the FABULOUS breakfast food that made tons of people put up with the horrible(!!!) service before. Everytime I've been in recently , the staff have been GREAT. The kitchen was not expanded so weekend food times are still slow (face it, there is only so much space on the flat top for all those browns and eggs). Weekdays expect no problems. Weekends- don't go if you are just starving, but if you are a kick back Sunday morning type, it is worth another shot. Way to go, Cricket!

The other review must have been written by an enemy, or by a competitor, because the meal I had at the Cricket Cafe was great.

I'm visiting Portland from southern California, and my son took me there before we went mushroom hunting.

The basic choice for anyone wanting to eat eggs is between an omelette or a scramble, with a long list of possible ingredients. I had a scramble, and it was excellent. The home fries which accompanied it were tasty, too.

I'm working today, Election Day, on the midterm elections, and I'm heading back to the Cricket Cafe to fuel myself for the day.

Oh, yeah, one more thing: we were greeted and given drinks by one young woman and served by another. Both young women were very pleasant and attentive.

My wife loves veggie-friendly comfort food so we have frequented this place for a few years. My Cricket Skillet is always yummy but one time she got a really weird vinegar-ish sludge in place of her standard Garden Skillet (tofu, no eggs).

Recently we dropped by, signed up, grabbed our coffee and waited outside. We know the drill and don't expect to be waited on hand-and-foot. We consider it part of the charm of the place, after all the Surly Waitress is a highly developed artform in Portland. So this particular time we waited about 45 mins outside before asking to sit at an outside table that had opened up. "Sure, here bring these menus with you!" the waitress replied, cheerfully shoving a handful of menus at us.

Great, now we have a table. That's half the battle right? We know what we want already, so the next 35 min wait is excrutiating. The main problem is that the server comes out twice to the neighboring table to bring the bill and collect the money but then dives right back through the front door. But the icing on the cake was when a (different) server finally did come out she walked right past us and asked for the order of the folks who sat down after us.

Mind boggling. It was like a piece of absurdist theater. If we weren't so hungry it would have been funny. Instead I would recommend Cup and Saucer (also a wait, but none of the drama), Paradox, Utopia, Henry's, Genie's, or Daily the new place on 56th and Halsey.

Cricket cafe has resonably priced food that is pretty good. I recommend the French Toast for Breakfast. But I agree with the previous review, terrible service. Waited a hour, kitchen staff appears to be very slow and unable to multi-task. Wait staff is way cool but not willing or able to keep up with the patrons. Tables stayed unbused for extended periods of time.

If you have 3 hours to spare and don't mind putting up with lazy slow service then this is the spot for you!

We waited an hour after ordering for our breakfast on our first trip, thought maybe it was a fluke and just had staff out that day. Tried again months later, waited outside for 30 minutes while 6 tables sat waiting to be bused (more than enough for all the people waiting for tables) while staff walked by the tables at a snail pace occasionally looking at the crowd outside without a care in the world. When finally seated we waited for a waitress for about 15 minutes before leaving after watching the employees worry about looking cool rather than serving customers.

By far the worst service in the city of Portland.

Wait sucked. Service slow. Food, DELICIOUS. Great Veggie/Vegan choices. HUUUUGE menu. Bar open at 9 a.m. for those Bloody Marys and Mimosas. Prices--okay, not great. For the omnivores--the bacon is thick sliced, and delish. I like, but it's too small to be a regular because sometimes the wait is horrendous and it just takes forever to get refills on your coffee.

The Cricket is one of my favorite breakfast spots in portland. The service has always been great, portions are good, and the coffee they serve is delicious. They have an excellent selection for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Expect a wait on the weekends, especially if you go after 10am (you may wait as long as 45 minutes sometimes). Friends of mine are huge fans of the cricket omelet. But I enjoy their breakfast burrito, gardenburger fried steak, and their tofu scramble is OK too.

One of the worst service experiences I've had in Portland! It was a crowded Sunday morning, we understand it's busy!! No greeting, just orders - sign here, what do you want, etc. We waited 30min to get seated, watched as 4 other tables were served food before us - and one table was served AFTER us - they were seated when we put our names on the waitlist!! Out of items, no apologies. We won't be back, there are too many great places to eat good breakfast in Portland - and we don't mind the wait!

I came in the Thursday morning with my friend at around 10:45 a.m.. We ordered right away and our food came to us 45 minutes later. I was just walking up to the counter to see if there was a problem with our order when our food arrived. The waitress asked if I needed something and I mentioned that I was checking on our food. She said in a very rude manner, that they are really busy. I sat down to eat (pancakes and sausage) and realized that there was a hair on my sausage. I told the waitress and she said, "What do you want me to do about it?". I was so upset (and hungry) that I didn't want to wait for another sausage so I said just to take it back. I started eating my pancakes but by that time they were cold. I told her that I didn't want them anymore and she asked if I wanted something else. I said that I would be happy to have the omelet that my friend had ordered but that I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. She said, "That will be only 5 minutes." in a very sharp tone. When I recieved my check she had charged me for both meals and didn't bother to apologize! A little long winded, review but I would never visit this place again!

PROS: Good food if it doesn't contain hair
CONS: Terrible service!

This Saturday I had breakfast at the Cricket, with six of us, we waited no more than 5 minutes for a table. Our waitress was efficent and prompt, quick to refill drinks, and friendly. The food was great, and the menu very mouth-watering...more trips are in order! We had a great time, the resturant was pleasantly full and buzzing, and I would definitely recommend the food. My new fave neighborhood eats. I suggest giving it a first or second try, in a busy place like that any waitress is bound to have a bad day. Don't let that ruin it for you!

My husband and I are absolutely the most chill people on the planet. We live by the golden rule and have the utmost in understanding..we also are in the food biz. The service is absolutely abhorent at the Cricket Cafe. We were completely dropped! It wasn't until 45 minutes that our waitress realized she never put our order in. I even had to wait 5 minutes to pay for my juice! She didn't know who I was! UNBELIVEABLE!!! So, as you can see..I have no comment on the food.

Cons: SERVICE, ATTITUDE, SERVICEW

.

(I felt like this review was out of date - haven't been back to the cafe in years, so I'm getting rid of it.)

My girlfriend and I just wanted a nice breakfast out. It was soon to be ruined by the snobbish service and mean manager that worked at the cricket cafe. They ruined my girlfriends order and then when she just asked for toast as a replacement (as we just wanted to get out of there after sitting there an hour and watching everybody that came in after us get their food first) we were told tough luck and that we would have to pay for the inedible meal and the toast. When the server huffed and puffed her way back to the manager to discuss our dissatisfaction, the whole restaurant was subject to him humiliating us and saying, "tough luck, the foods her problem, not ours". Overall, the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life, not just in Portland.

I've tried many a wonderful breakfast place on the East side--Henry's, Detour, Gennie's, but the Cricket wears the crown. If you like crispy, spandex-in-your-waistband worthy hashbrowns, the Cricket delivers. Scrambles are great, too. Good vegie options. Worth the wait on the weekend.

I waited 1 hour from the time I ordered until my food was served, and it was not busy. Other tables that had arrived after I did were eating and gone before my food was up. The waitress apologized. I will not go back. Thumbs down.
