On 10-25-14 I bought a Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV from Mike Landry (owner) of Road Hawk Cycle. The bill of sale lists Road Hawk Cycle as owner. I paid $2100, and Mr. Landry said the ATV was in good shape; nothing wrong with it that he knew of. Part of the deal also included him later to give me (as he didn't have them at his place of business where the ATV was purchased) 2 sand tires on rims, and a protective skid plate (total value of about $300 as used parts). He mentioned he also just changed the oil and bought a new battery for it (and he gave me the receipt for the new battery).

After buying it I noticed he had very poor reviews on Yelp (and a D- with the BBB), for shoddy work and not giving customers what they purchased. After trying for a few weeks to arrange to pick up the tires and skid plate, Landry finally told me it would be impossible because someone stole them (supposedly, my loss). (Since he's in the surplus business, he can re-sale these for profit, if he even had them as he claimed.) Given his reviews, I wasn't surprised. What I thought was a good deal now looked pretty bad.

Since Landry has such bad reviews, I had a pro mechanic check out the ATV. The exam showed $1,899 repairs are needed, as a partial exam because they couldn't even get the ATV to idle. (When I purchased the ATV, I did test ride it about 200 ft., as Landry seemed to show frustration over the need for a road test and there wasn't much land to test ride it). The pro mechanic examiner said that after some repairs are made, additional checks could be made, such as a test ride. This deal went from "bad" to "horrible."

Some of the major problems:
-- Matt bought a new battery, but it is the wrong type. Battery needs correct replacement
-- The radiator has rust in it, and there was no reservoir cap. It looks like a 4 inch hole was self-repaired and probably incorrectly repaired. The radiator needs to be replaced.
-- The swing-arm is damaged and needs replacement (bearings, bush, shaft, etc)
-- Clutch repairs (plates, springs, and gaskets)
-- Rear brake (bent rotor, cable, hose, disk, pad, etc.)
-- Dirty oil

He said "You can trust me because my business reputation rides on it." Little did I know his business reputation was already shot.

These guys are great. They actually know what they are doing and fix it fast and reasonable priced. I have taken my 1982 Honda to Rain City, Pro caliber, and both places just threw parts at it hoping or planning to add more to the bill.

Calling victims of this guy dipshits from behind the safety of a computer screen is one thing. Those guy are outright thieves, with Matt Landry the owner being the worst of them. Even the local MC clubs disown the guy and don't know

He's a low life crook! Took my money and never got my parts, I hope you choke on the $40 you stole from me you piece of garbage! He can have the $40, because the amount of business I'm turning away is costing him a LOT more.

He got a part for my old bike, but it wasn't the right one; it was for a different model. He said he would refund my money, if it didn't work, even though this was an electronic part, and his usual policy is not to. It didn't work. Took it

This business is indeed a caveat venditor situation. I wish the company I work for had checked the online reviews of this business before agreeing to do any business with Matt Landry. I never thought that a shop could stay in business while passing bad checks to vendors and not honoring promises made to customers, but Road Hawk Cycle has proved itself to be the exception from this. In fact, the Better Business Bureau has given this business an F rating and after dealing with them, I completely agree.

1700 bucks to rebuild top and bottom end of yz250f motor... P UT IN USED PARTS, DID NOT DO ANY MACHINING WHICH HE CHARGED FOR. Left piston clip out. overtorqued valves. I got a judgement in court on him, he still wont man up and refund my money. My bike blew up after about an hour of riding after he" fixed it." The mechanic at Factory Motor Sports said after tearing it down he was "surprised it ran at all!" Spread the word....lets get this criminal operation shut down.

I read the reviews here and thought... "Hey only a couple of bad comments... Probably just a whiner".... I should have listened.

Let me start by saying, I wanted to do local business with a person, not a corporation.... I wanted to be able to write a positive review about him here.... But I can't.

After 5 visits to fix a problem (one that he created) he still didn't fix it. I went another branded dealership and they fixed the issue for $100.00.

I'm still waiting on Matt (the owner) to call me back and let me know that he has the correct part (for which I've already paid).....

On my first couple of visits he did some work (safety inspection etc.) and did a couple of things right.... But on subsequent visits, when I kept asking him to fix the very simple issue... He focused on other things, denied responsibility (he had originally put the faulty part on my bike), accused me of doing some damage.... etc.

We're not talking about a lot of money ($110) but it's enough to not recommend him to anyone, to write a negative review, and never use his service again.

He told me he doesn't care about the reviews online. In reality, he said he has enough business already and a few "a**holes with computers" never hurt his business. He said "Frankly I'd rather not have their type here"....

Well, Matt, you got your wish... I'm not going to do business with you again and I'll encourage others to beware....

Pros: Seems knowledgeable

Cons: No follow up. Failed to deliver what promised. Doesn't care.

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS. If I could give it a zero I would. All this place is interested in is swindling money away from customers, no matter if the part or parts are actually right for you or not, or if they work at all. This happened to me twice. The second time I bought a part from them that ended up being incorrect I called the owner on the phone (who is probably the worst representative of human life imaginable) and he actually told me to "shut up" and said there was nothing he could do. He also sold my friend a bike that he swore by and said ran great. After driving it home the bike was spewing oil all over the street and something was very wrong with the engine. He refused to negotiate, refused to help work on the bike, and offered no advice. This place is the reason why the deceitful/dirty mechanic stereotype exists today. I cannot say enough about how horrible Road Hawk's operation is, and can only hope it is shut down before further people are exposed to the single worst business establishment I have ever stepped foot in.

I have been working on motorcycles for 30yrs as a hobby, he has fair knowledge of bikes. But little knowledge of how to run a reputable business, as he was willing to take my money and order parts for me. Problem is he never came through, he did come through with classic excuses like 'back ordered' and 'they never got back to me' etc. All the while I am out the money.

My intention was to support small local business and learned my lesson. So do business with him if you like, but keep your money in YOUR pocket until parts are physically delivered. Payment before they order your parts may leave you disappointed.

Unfortunately the owner/mechanic of this shop comes across as knowing his trade. He is very slow, unreliable, and in the end unpredictable. He has no code of ethics and while up front apprears very friendly and buddy, buddy even willing to cut a deal, he is the typical stereotype when you leave out the door. In the end, he ruined my bike and after reading about him on CraigsList, everyone has said the same thing. One person described this person as BAD NEWS.
