I bought both of my dogs from Scamps. The first one had Bordetella, AKA Kennel Cough. I loved the pup so my husband and I took care of his Bordetella and he's a happy healthy dog today. A year later, we bought our second dog. She had Giardia. Again, I loved the pup so my husband and I took care of her Giardia. She's a happy, healthy dog today. When people choose to take in a new pet, they should be prepared to care for the health and maintenance of the animal regardless of where they purchase them. Animals aren't furniture despite the fact that they are considered "property". If you are someone who is looking for a new pet yet will "return" them if they aren't in "mint condition" please do not purchase or adopt one at all. It's because of these people that animals are in shelters or foster care. Be prepared for health problems and consider pet health insurance.

I was an employee of a scamps p.c.& they way they conduct business is horrific. I once had to call a breeder to return a sick puppy , and the backyard breeder killed the puppy on site, by snapping its neck. Please use caution when EVER you choose to purchase a dog or cat from ANY petstore!

Please do not buy puppies from ANY Scamps pet store. They come from puppy mills! Visit your local shelter or rescue organization. They have many puppies available for adoption. Don't support the inhumane puppy mills!

Agreed, some of their workers do genuiely care for the dogs & cats they sold, but would they buy that dog or cat back from you if you took the dog or cat straight to a vet to have it throughly examined and was discovered it had a tumor or kidney disease, etc? NO!!! THAT is a HUGE difference between a pet store selling dogs & cats ( and yes, over 90% of them are puppy-mill pets which btw, IS illegal ) and a reputable breeder selling it to you.

A reputable breeder will ALWAYS buy back that sick dog or cat, because their business largely is word-of-mouth. They can't afford to have an ill-satisfied customer.

So, to those workers who lost their jobs once Scamps was shut down, sorry for the loss and hope you find work soon, but on the other hand, at least that is a proven puppy mill put out of business--which is a bonus for every dog & cat not yet sold to them just for the $$$ because the store management doesn't give a sh*t about the health of these dogs! These chain of stores should never have been allowed to sell even one dog or cat.

Loved it. You people can claim to be educated about Scamps but you aren't. You take what you've HEARD or READ on the internet and run with it like you're Einstein. It's sad that there are so many mis-informed people running around. This whole puppy mill thing isn't applied to every place that has dogs/animals for sale in all aspects. There are actual people that oops - Little Prissy got out and got knocked up and we don't want her pups so lets take them somewhere to find a home.
To those of you that claim you went into the store and it was just horrible, and smelled, and the dogs were in feces...HELLO...what does that make YOU look like for not telling anyone??? I went into Scamps now and then to check out the cute little puppies - ours came from there and is perfectly healthy. Perfectly. Awesome dog.
Yes, there is a confidentiality agreement when it comes to 3rd parties for the obvious reason. Do you seriously think if I took my pups in there and they were purchased knowing info about me, and the dog someone bought that was mine got sick or something and they tried to sue like most people in America sadly believe is the way to deal with things when they go wrong?? No way would I bring that upon myself. Everyone needs to realize that things aren't always perfect. Majority of dogs from pet stores can come home with kennel cough which is normal - dog from breeders can too. You can go to a breeder and bring home the cutest little puppy only to find out it developed the same issue it would've if it were sold elsewhere.
Get a clue people. Not all dogs that are sold at pet stores are from mills. And not all dogs at pet stores are going to become sick.
As I said, if you went in there and weren't satisfied with the cleanliness or aroma or whatever and you did nothing about it at that moment - it's partly you're fault for not speaking up and it says something about you as well.....

I'm appalled at the bullies we have in this area, thinking to impose their own way of life, I think yall need to shut your holes. EVERY time I've ever walked into any Scamps, if I saw any problem it was dealt with in a timely manner. SHAME on you bullies with your own private agendas. You fascists are ruining America! I say never support the humane society, they bring in pets from out of the country to full shelters and charge horrendous prices. BTW Thank God horse slaughter is being bought back, it's about time America's bullies were stopped. I'm so sorry Scamps is gone. Another freedom shot down.

THANK GOD SCAMPS IS CLOSED!!!!! It was a very sad place to visit. I'm glad to see that the puppy mill act passed in Oregon AND a huge client of puppy mills (scamps) is done selling sick/ irresponsibly bred puppies.
Please go to the humane society, people!
DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE!!!

Michael Twain is an evil, greedy uncaring jerk, I found out when my best friend & I worked for him at the Scamp's at the Beaverton Mall in the late '70's/early '80's. We had each previously worked at other pet stores, and were apalled at the practices carried out by these people! We did an extremely good job, cleaning, grooming, caring for the animals...as we were taught properly from our previous employers. But we were told from mgmt.(Michael Twain) to carry out numerous hidious acts such as taking sick or dying animals & birds, tying them securely in a plastic bag and placing them in the freezer to 'put them to sleep',instead of paying a vet to do it humanely and legally. I ended up rescueing numerous animals & birds myself to save them from unecessary death.
I am so relieved that these stores are no longer open, and that Michael Twain will get his own in the end, gee, do jews believe in karma? Look out!

Hello my name is Leah. I was the asst.manager at the Clackamas Scamps for over two years until I recently got laid off. To all the Pet Store haters out there you'll be happy to know that Scamps is now closed forever. I was heart broken to know that my job that I loved so much was suddenly ended with no notice. I have a great passion for animals and that is why I chose to work at Scamps. I know some people might think that the people that work at pet stores don't care about the animals but I assure you that that is not true. The only reason I worked there was my love for them.

As far as the animal health issues, they are just like people health issues. I understand people's compassion for animals and their care and I respect that but animals get sick just like we do. My lab Coco, whom I purchased from a private party has multiple health issues. However, my boxer Buster which I purchased from Scamps has always been perfectly healthy. I want any skeptics to know if ever there was a question of health at my store the animal was taken to the vet immediately.

I think what I'm mostly going to miss is teaching young children how to respect and care for all animals.
I personally brought fresh organic produce for the exotic birds and reptiles everyday to ensure that they were getting their proper nutrition. We would also socialize and have "play dates" with the puppies on a daily basis.

To sum it up, I really cared about the animals and I found many of them wonderful happy homes. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a great pet go to a loving home. I'm going to miss our regular wonderful customers as well, and thank you!

Thanks again

Sincerely, Leah

I'm broken hearted. I've been going into Scamps the last three weeks, keeping my eye on several small dogs that I thought I might choose a long-wanted pup from. Each week I go in and say, if they are still here, I will choose. In the meantime I've gotten them out to play, test our 'connection', see if they were right for me. I decided today, May 5Th was the day. I just went into scamps (Clackamas Promenade) 2:30 p.m., and the dogs were mostly napping, surrounded by feces and even had it matted in their fur. The Pomeranian I'd chosen was out, being held by a customer. I looked in his cage and there was diarrhea all over over his cage, food dishes and mat. I felt sick. Then the employee set the little guy BACK his cage, right on top of some mucousy stool. The puppy's whole backside was covered,. I wanted to scream at these people for mistreating these babies. I had to leave so I didn't lose it--and I made the decision I couldn't get a puppy from there. I was nearly crying when a man was noticing my upset and we talked about it and he said he'd had to take his Australian Shepard pup back to them a few weeks ago because it had giardia. As one poster said, any dog can be sick, even coming from humane society, private breeder, etc. But when you SEE the evidence of lack of care, please don't support them! You may get your heart broke too!

I bought 2 fish from Scamps and brought them home, even though the sales girl took them from a tank with some diseased fish, I did not know any better. Whatever their fish had it spread to my tank and have killed all of my fish from previous, plus the 2 that I brought from Scamps died also.

When I went back in to Scamps to get replacements, the tank had numerous dead fish in the bottom even though the manager assured me that the problem had been taken care of. I am so mad that my fish are dead now all because of Scamps.

As a little boy I would go to Scamps and spend many hours looking around sometimes I could even help which was great. All of the employees loved the animals, took care of them. A few years ago I picked up a dog at the pound and it had all sorts of issues, it would not go on a leash, it had skin issues and more, then we picked up another who we found to be half blind. There is no manual for any living thing, purchased at a store or not. I do not feel wronged, the dogs are great, they have their quirks but that is fine by me. I would feel the same if I picked up at Scamps, at least then there would be a place to go back to for help.

I am glad that most of you can sympathize with the animals at this chain and realize that selling animals like a commodity is wrong. However, some people still need to be educated on the topic.
YES- Scamps gets most of their puppies from what most would define as a "puppy mill". The way that Scamp's can tell you that they do not, is strictly because the process involves a middleman (also known as a Broker). They DEFINITELY come from places where there are at least 200 dogs in poor conditions. No wonder people are complaining about sick puppies!!! I have been researching these so called "dog brokers" and discovered that most of them are, in fact, PUPPY MILLS! If your definition of a puppy mill is a place with too many dogs, too few caregivers, barely any veterinary care, bad conditions, etc... then know this: SCAMPS BUYS FROM PUPPY MILLS.
Also, if Scamp's were actually purchasing animals from reliable breeders, then why would they have signed a "confidentiality agreement" with the breeder. What are they trying to hide? Just try and get the information on where the dogs come from, I promise you will fail.
Do not support this business. The best thing you can do for the puppy in the window, is to not support the cruel practices surrounding its situation. If you feel that you are going to rescue one of these puppies, you are wrong. That puppy will be replaced ASAP. Just refuse to take part in this cruelty.
If anyone purchased a puppy from Scamp's please contact me at screwscamps@gmail.com

I don't care what anyone says about this crappy place, it sucks!! The place smells because they don't take care of the animals. They don't care. All they care about is making money. The poor animals are in small cages and never get any interaction. Scamps buys from Puppy Mills. If you don't believe me look it up. They even had a feature on one of the news channels. I would never buy from a pet store when there are tons of animals in shelters, rescue groups, and you can look on Pet Finder and find awesome dogs. I got both of my JRT's from the shelter for $100.00. They are the best dogs and I have never had a problem.

You can get a pet from the Humane Society, breeder, or a private home, etc. and STILL not know the animals full "background" or disposition! Give me a break!.The shelters are actually worse then a pet store, at least at the pet store they don't get euthanized if they are not purchased within a few weeks. Which is exactly what the shelters do! (Minus the Humane Society) To top that off the animals get to smell the other animals being cremated! Did you know that some shelters automatically put an animal down if they come in with a medical problem instead of treating it? In all reality if I was in a situation where I had to re home a pet I would take it to Scamps before the shelter! If people would spay/neuter their pets we wouldn't all be here talking trash about pet stores! So if you are really a true animal lover stop posting comments about a subject you know nothing about and go do something with your opinion! You sure seem to have time to sit in front of a computer screen!

What do people expect a pet store to smell like roses? I came across these postings looking for the phone number of the Tigard Scamps. I plan on returning to this store tomorrow to purchase a kitten that I fell in love with there. The young man who was working there was amazing! He knew all the animals personalities and where they came from. He was friendly and obviously cares for the animals. I have been going to this store for many many years and yes there has been a few rude people who have worked there in the past. The thing is, there are rude people everywhere!

I just recently started working at a Scamps (not the one listed above) and I'd like to clear up a few things:

A) If the store you've visited is uncomfortably dirty and it offends you, I'd suggest pointing it out to the store's manager. My store employs two dedicated cleaners who come in every night of the week to clean/maintain the animals' cages (mainly the dogs, cats, birds and other mammals) while it is my responsibility to clean the reptile cages which I tend to every day. I take great pride in running a cleanly store, as I am an avid animal lover and can't stand seeing them dirty. I also bathe each dog at least once a week, and try and brush them every day. Also, pertaining to the "puppies in a garbage can for cleaning" portion of a precious post, I can verify that is not something we ever do (not at the store I work at). We are also allowed to give the animals any toys we feel they would like, and the toys go home with the animal when they are purchased (removing the fear of illness spreading). We don't re-use toys as implied.

B) Every dog and cat we sell gets their immunizations every two weeks while in the store (the required amount is once a month), not to mention the fact that we keep a close watch if any animals get sick. If they are sick, they get moved to the back kennels and are not for sale until they get a clean bill of health from a privately owned veterinary clinic. We have several kittens right now that have colds, so twice a day they get Clavamox (animal amoxicillin) until they are healthy again, but are not for sale until then.

C) Our puppies do not come from puppy mills, and you don't have to take my word for it. All of our puppies/kittens are AKC certified, or certified by another of a handful of reputable registries. You can ask any of the sales associates of the origins of any cats/dogs and they can inform you further.

If any of the things I've mentioned above are incorrect about your local Scamps, then they are not following protocol.

I myself have a cat purchased around a year ago from a Scamps store, and I couldn't love him more. He's happy, healthy, and has a fantastic personality. He's such a great cat that I'm seeking out the breeder so I can purchase him a brother of sister from the same parents.
Thank you.

Thank you.

My sister, daughter and I go to Scamps about once year for various reasons.

I bought my Main Coon there 15 years ago and never had any issue with her however, every time we have been in that store it is disgusting and the smell is overwhelming. You just want to adopt every pet to get them out of there. We were in there a month ago and nothing has changed. Someone does need to either take control of this store, or shut it down. It is just a disgrace.

I have read all of these ads, and I am appalled that some people can still say "Scamps is great! My pet didn't get sick! teehee!" after all the evidence against Scamps. Every time I have ever set foot in a Scamps, there have been animals stuffed into overcrowded, dirty, or inappropriate cages (or all of the above). Rabbits stay in a bin on the floor with so many animals in it, there's hardly room for them to move around! Puppies sit in wire-floored cages (not good for their feet), even if they are extra large breeds that require MUCH more space to move around (even the small breeds only had enough space to take a few steps in any direction). Scamps does not background check their animals - they will take animals from anyone! This includes puppy mills! You have no way of telling if the animal you get is healthy, or if it has a family history of genetic health problems. To those of you that have said you got healthy, happy animals here, then yes, you were lucky. But that doesn't mean you should continue to support this company. Are you willing to risk your next pet being horribly ill on a company that has had SO many complaints of such a horrific nature? Do yourself a favor - next time you are ready to get a pet, go to a shelter, or at least go to a reputable breeder! Cause the fact of the matter is, even if you think you are "saving" that poor little puppy in the window, at the end of the day you're just supporting a bad business whose only goal is to get your money.

I have been into Scamps several times. We purchased a teddy bear hamster, the cage, & everything for my daughter's birthday present. The guy who helped me was very nice, accommodating & he actually set everything up for me in the store prior to leaving. It was perfect!

We also purchased a male pom-poo for $600, who is now 6 mos old. We LOVE this dog, he has been perfect for our family. The girl who helped us was very nice, helpful, and she took the time to get all the basic supplies we needed without us being rushed. He has been worth every penney.

On our 1st visit to the vet he did have a slight ear infection & they were dirty. He also had a slight eye infection. Scamps paid for the vet bill, and within 5 days the dog was fine. On our 2nd vet visit last week, he is in stellar health & has no problems at all.

My experiences with Scamps have been positive. I do think there are too many dogs there. They share cages that are too small for even one dog. The store is too small for that many animals. There aren't enough people working to give all the animals the appropriate attention & customer service that everyone needs. The store is always busy.

I don't think that adopting a pet is always the best idea. It depends on the situation & animal you're getting. I've been to several Portland metro shelters & they are also overfilled with animals and many are sick & under medical treatment. They don't know the complete history of the animals, so in the long run you're not guaranteed anything there either.

Shame on you for the suffering you impose upon innocent animals for sale in your store! 100% of all animals (puppies, kittens, bunnies, etc.) were either without ANY bedding, space, water, food or care! You are evil and any employee in your store is evil to comply to the "stores inhumane animal treatment policies." Oh I will be back to check on the conditions of these animals and count on me to spread the word to the USDA, media and animal welfare community if conditions do not improve drastically. I wish that you will find yourself helpless in the care of an heartless caregiver such as yourself someday.

I guess my sister was lucky because she bought her little puppy at Scamps and she was perfectly healthy. I am looking for a dog now and we went to Scamps just to look around and we saw a little puppy who was in the little bin they had in its kennel and he looked so sick and they had a note on the kennel door that said, "please don't take me out unless you are really interested." We thought that was a little suspicious.

I worked there about a year and a half ago. It was absoultely horrible how all of those animals live. I wanted to work there because of my love for animals and i was happy cuz i was going to able to play with them.

like someone already said, when you clean the cages, you are supposed to put the animals in a big empty garbage can. then when you are done, you are supposed to bleach the crap out of the can and put a new puppy in...sometimes they wouldnt even wipe it out. so the puppy would be standing on bleach, that more then likely hurt their paws.

I ended up getting fired (over the phone) because I didnt "clean" the cages well enough...when the people before me didnt even get all the poop out, and because i played with the animals too much.

Im sorry, but those animals need to played with. There was a huge saint bernard puppy with a small kennel, and would poop alll over the window, and no one would clean it. i would go and cleean it and they said it was a bad job BS!

all they care about is how much money they are going to make that day.

the employees there are rude and dont care about customers or the animals at all.

i cant believe i actually worked there.
i went in there once a couple of months ago, and the placed reeeked of poop and pee. it was absolutely digusting. talk about bad cleaning.

dont ever go there and buy an animal.
there are animals in the back that have diseases and illnesses that no one sees, and they are kept back there, no interaction with people except for medicine and feeding and watering.
its horrible.
even if the dog is still a little sick, they put it back up for sale.
there was a dog that was in the back for 2 whole months. without seeing anyone else except for the employees.

someone needs to report this place. im about to myself. its digusting and i have no idea how they pass a health inspection.
i would definitely not reccomend you go there.
go to a shelter or get a puppy thats not from a so called "breeder" im pretty sure they get their dogs a t scamps from puppy mills.

I went to scamps and bought my puppy. We took him to his first check up and was told that he only had one testicle his other somewhere in his belly. This was not mentioned when we purchased our puppy. WARNING inspect the unthinkable when buying a puppy at scamps. and don't ask the staff their opinion.

And I absolutely love my Maltese puppy, Merrick. The staff was incredibly helpful, gave me advice and are always more than happy to see my puppy when I bring him in. Merrick is and has been healthy since the moment I adopted him and was fully UTD on shots. He is even tempered, and thus far has had very few accidents in the house. He is so friendly to other people, dogs and cats. I couldn't be happier with him and look forward to many many years with him. Regardless of what other people are saying on this website, the Scamps I went to was professional, clean and the animals were receiving adequate food, water, and exercise. I would recommend Scamps (atleast, the one I went to) to anyone.

I bought a puppy from Scamps despite all the bad reputation I've heard. Paid a pretty penny for the dog. He's a furry little guy so I didn't think to investigate his belly area. Got him home and a friend noticed he had a two inch zig zag scar on his belly. I immediately called scamps, and they said it was a hernia correction surgery the dog had undergone. No where on my paper work did it show that the dog had undergone surgery. When I bought him, the staff had insured me he was in good health and all of his medical condition was disclosed on his paper work.

Big fat liar face! If I knew the dog had that the dog had corrective surgery I would never have bought him for that price. My vet said she highly discourages dogs with hernias to be bred, because these hernias are hereditary, and you could spend hundreds correcting the hernia. I wasn't going to breed him anyways, but if I wanted my dog to have a companion or puppies--that option is now closed. iIm going to talk to my lawyer, since scamps didn't not disclose his medical condition to me, this seems to be extremely fraudulent.

While it has been a long time since i worked there, i worked at scamps once and never again. I was young and it was my first job, i LOVE animals and thought i could help a little by being the one to take care of them in the morning. Well i was wrong, unless procedure has changed, you clean the kennels once in the morning and even then are supposed to keep them confined while you clean it (they recommended a large, empty plastic trash can) and weren't supposed to leave the food and water in the kennels when you open because they can make more of a mess. Very few are allowed a pad or anything in the kennel cuz, well, more to clean. I didn't know the "owners" but i did know one of the district managers, and he cared nothing for the animals, only how much money they made off them. My mother rescued a near-death little Pomeranian from there once too. I also later worked at their (now closed) boarding and grooming facility in N.E. (P.R.G.G) on 82nd and loved it, because corporate had very little to do with it, until, after 2 years, they decided to fire everyone there for no reason, raise prices and hire all new staff. Closed a year later, serves them right.

I bought a puppy there last week. I had been around to all the shelters in the area... I was in St. Helens, the Humane Society in PDX, Troutdale, Vancouver... No luck. I had no intention of buying a puppy from a pet store, because I know that mindful breeders do not sell their puppies to pet stores. But I stopped in just to look, asked about mixed breed puppy, and the clerk took him out and handed him to me.

That was it. I haven't put him down since. I adored him right away. I didn't want to support the store, but I really fell for the guy. I totally abandoned my principles.

So, I'm very happy with him. He's a smart, happy dog.

BUT, he came home with a bad case of Giardia. I was not surprised, considering where he came from. The vet has billed Scamps for everything so far, without question.

If you adopt a dog from the shelter, the adoptions are much more conscientious: You must fill out an application, show them permission from your landlord; they shelters offer free spay/neutering ; and shots. So, I so recommend checking there first.

I purchased a dog from Scamps in Tacoma WA. My family & I were assured that the dog was a purebred and that she was AKC registered. Five moths later after calling repeatedly to get the paperwork we received a form from ACA (American Canine Association) a bogus organization that sells nothing more than fancy blue & white paper designed to make you think that you have a quality animal. You can go to their website & click on the breeder portion to register a puppy & for $10.00 more register the parents without any documentation!!! The dog we purchase is undergoing DNA testing, (there is strong suspicion by the veterinarian that she is inbreed) and when we get the inevitable POSITIVE results we will be filing a complaint with the Humane Society ('Pet Seller Complaint form', www.hsus.org - if you need a copy for similar purposes). Obviously the scamps staff have been less than helpful...in fact they have been fraudulent. I'm hoping that enough people will file complaints with the 'Humane Society Of The United States' that eventually they will have enough for a class action lawsuit against Scams..oops I mean Scamps. This type of class action suit has already been filed against a similar company in Florida, Florida has similar regulations to those in Washington and Oregon. If you have been Scammed or mislead about a pet purchased from Scamps fill out the 'Pet Seller Complaint Form' too.

This puppy had been in there for a month, and I told myself that if she was still there after Christmas, then I wanted to take her home. The employees told me this breed never sheds, and this would have been perfect for my son with allergies. Well, she does shed, and my kid is severly allergic. I was also told that this dog would get no bigger than 8 lbs, and was informed by a fellow owner of the same breed that her dog is 17 lbs. . I have a toddler who tries to pick up the dog's ever flowing turds and pee.
The puppy is terrified of grass. I try to take her out every half hour and she runs like wildfire back to the door and starts scratching on it, whining. Then when she comes in, she makes a beeline for my bed to crap and pee.I never would have purchased her had I not been misled by the lies of the employees. Looking this breed up on the internet I found out that they are the most fragile and needy breed around....something Scamps employees failed to mention.

I have heard all the horrible stories about the purchase of pets in Scamps and other pet stores. In my case I bought my puppy at Scamps in may of 07 and have been 1 of the lucky ones. She is adorable tho I think they told me the incorrect breeds or mix as she is bigger than I wanted. She does only weigh about 10bs but I think she is a mix of maltese and poodle not shitzu & tea cup poodle. She is in good health and I was told she had only been there about 2 hrs. Iam very happy with her and she was in good health and remains so. I would never recomend a purchase of a pet in a pet store in the future. I just got lucky.

Why must people buy animals in pet STORES? They are not inanimate objects, like you are purchasing clothing at Macy's! It only contributes to the continuation of the horrible cruelty that exists in the places these poor animals were bred it, not to mention the millions of smaller animals that die of neglect in pet stores or because they are purchased on a whim for a pleading child. The next time you decide to give a loving home to an animal, please consider one from the countless many in shelters that really need a good home like yours. From that single act of kindness, you will save an animal. And maybe, pet stores will finally wise up and become pet supply stores, not suppliers of more uneeded pets.

I came to this website to consider purchasing supplies for our 9 shelter fur babies. However, since Scamps sells animals, I will not be doing business with them.

all i can say is "what-ever!"
any pet store you go into is sad
any animal shelter you go into is sad

these businesses play on your emotions so that you will feel sorry for and try to rescue the animals, but that doesn't mean that every single person that is associated with the company is "bad" or that they don't care for the animals.

it's easy to point your finger and say "how awful" but what are YOU gonig to do about it besides type away with your angry fingers? get real. the business is sad. it is sick. and you know what? it could be a lot worse.

It's not as if every single person that's bought a pet from Scamp's has had a traumatic experience. If so, there would be a lot more posts on here and they would be out of business. I personally know the owners and they are VERY caring individuals who care VERY much for all kinds of animals.

I know your sick minds would like tyo believe otherwise but that is simply not the case. If you have a problem with the kennel conditions or feel that the employees are negligent, then you should google the headquarters call and actually do something about it. I know they are good people, and if they all of a sudden got a bunch of complaints and didn't do something about it then they should be put out of business... but I am sure these complaints are just isolated events that were never brought to the attention of someone that could actually do something about it.

My husband and I bought a puppy from Scamps last week. Within 2 days the dog became very ill, after taking her to the vet...she was diagnosed with Parvo. We are still waiting to see if our puppy will survive. The staff was very accomodating in making sure our puppy is getting the medical attention needed and will cover all costs. However, I am very disappointed that this horrible and very life threating virus was not caught before we bought her. I will know better than to buy a puppy from a pet store next time. We should have asked more questions and known more about possible health problems that could have occured.

I took my kids to scamps today to look at puppies and was horrified to see all these adorable little puppies laying in their own feces and the smell in the store was awful. I never did see an employee the whole time I was there, no wonder they seem uncared for and sickly.
The prices were so high that I doubt anyone could afford a puppy at 500-1000 dollars.

I'm sorry you people were sold a sick dog. I think it's just as sick and despicable that you would enter a pet store where you KNOW these animals have been sitting in the cages all day with poor lighting, poor nutrition, and absolutely no exercise. I pity the $2700+ loss to your wallet. What about the injuries and sicknesses these animals incur simply for being couped up in cages? Spend your money on an adopted animal that will be euthanized for sitting around a cage too long. I'd be willing to be you'd spend less money on one of those creatures.

I have purchased two pups from Scamp's, 17 years apart. The reason I waited so long was that the first Scamp's pup lived to be a healthy old 17 years ! The second one is now 5 and is also perfect in every way and a terrific addition to our family. I have been very, very happy with my Scamp's experiences and would (and probably will) go back again.

They always have a wide variety of dogs to see. They seem to be in the price range of other pet sores. The have a big selection of fish and we've bought some and they did ok.

I was just in there today ( aug 16) and they had a kitten (female black and white b_day 6/1/07), in a very small cage with a large litter box. The kitten had nowhere to lay down and was forced to stand on the metal bottom bars of its cage. The kitten was crying very loudly and could be heard throughout the store, although its voice was horse from crying for so long it sounded more like a rasp. This animal was in a cage not more the 6 feet from the front of the store and the clerk. A lot of people commented about the loud animal. The people working in the store did nothing to help this poor kitten. i have seen sick animals in this store before, but this was really sad to see this poor little kitten treated so badly.

They sold us a sick dog who has epileptic seizures and they won't cover the bills or pay us back, the total cost for the dog was 700, fallowed by over 2000 dollars in vet bills. they don't stand by their pets or breeder. They told us they would pay for the vet costs because the seizures started within days of buying the dog. Pet shoppers beware!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over 2700 on a credit car means I missed a semester of college for a Christmas gift.

I bought a ferret there lastweek, She turned out to be extrmly nippy and agressive so I took her back. Just to have (jessica and cassie) tell me I cant and all I can do is an exchange. After I was told theyre animals have a 14day return, they decided to change theyre mind and say a 14day health return. So after fighting with them all day I managed to get my money back. It went as far as me almost having to call the cops out and take them to court over it. This is the worst petshop I've been too. The place smells horrible and the animals arent taken care of properly. They sell dogs for $$$$ and put them in tiny cages, they have no paperwork on theyre ferrets and couldnt tell me any exact info on them. If your looking for a petshop look elsewhere, Petco is across the street and they are sooooo much better! I'll never shop at scams again!

PROS: the animals arent actually dead... yet!
CONS: horrible buisness, HORRIBLE employs!!!

I purchased an iguana from them. I was impressed becuse the breed I wanted they didn't ahve, so they special ordered it for me and the cost wasn't too high. But then when he arrived he had a deformed foot and when I tried to get them to get me a new one, they were very rude and told me I would have to pay to ship the defected one back and for the shipping of the new one. So I kept the defected foot iguana and he soon died after taking him home! I was out the money and they were very rude!!

Scamp's Pet Center has a verity of pets to choose from, dogs, cats, birds, fish, hamsters, etc...
But I find nothing good about this store at all, it is just terrible, the employees are rude, they would rather be on the phone then help a customer. The animals are so crowed in the small cages it breaks my heart. The prices are way to high. And the store stinks literally, the smell is awful. Not somewhere I will ever go again.

This place is ok, I guess. They have the usual cats, dogs, small furry critters as well as rats, lizards and a good selection of fish and other aquaduct items. Oh, and birds, lots of them. When I asked quetions to the people in the fish area they did not know the anwsers. There were also wuite a few dead, half eaten fish in some tanks! Avoid this place if you can!
