There was a crying baby, loud teenagers to one side, a father and young couple talking about the pros and cons of marriage on the other side. We asked to sit in the bar area by the windows because it was less crowded, but it was all reserved. Don't come without a reservation if you want it a little quiet. I couldn't even hear the music at all.

food.. i had the orange chicken. it was dry, and the broccoli was too crunchy. my husband did like his soup, and the cocktail was good.

overall for the price I expected more.

Cons: the restaurant was so loud

Great food. Lots of flavor. Not super fast but I mentioned it to our server and they said they would hurry it up. They were allowing us time to talk to each orher. In their defence we should have said we were pressed for time. Once mentioned our food came promptly. Everything was tasty.

I hadn't been a big fan of Thai food before. But a friend kept trying to convince me to check out Typhoon. I am glad I did. It's now one of my top two favorite restaurants in all of Portland. Love it!!! Incredible flavor in every dish.

This place is a staple of Portland Thai food. They've got multiple locations, but this one in NW is one I've had trouble with. The food is perfect, but expensive. During Happy Hour, I found the appetizers to be uninspired. In fact, my egg rolls were just microwaved- they were still frozen in the middle.

The food at Typhoon is colorful and well prepared. Some entrees are also works of Art.

Their Cocktail menu is creative with many Asian and Tea inspired Cocktails.

And their Tea Menu if the largest that I know of in Portland. If you are a Tea afficianado.... you must stop in to Typhoon for the Tea.

The appetizsers are delightful. Their Pad Thai is good.... but dishes like their deep fried Halibut aqre magnicifent. This is a more elegant version of Thai than many of the other Thai restaurants throughout the USA.

It's worth trying out if you are in Portland and like Thai cuisine, especially on a moderate budget.

Cons: not responsive to customer problems; hair in food

.

Have been to the Everett location a few times, and the food has been consistently good. Appetizers (get the nibble platter) are great, and the entrees have been consistently good. I don't know what's up with Gresham location. Went there for take-out, and the service was awful. Unhelpful and inattentive. Thankfully, the food was still good.

I am new to the area and have had a hard time finding good thai restaurants and this one surprised me with how good it is. I've only been once but loved the chicken cashew. They also have a full bar which most thai restaurants don't have. I will definitely be going back here. It is a little spendy than most, but well worth it.

I love Typhoon! Sam the manager is so great and always so helpful! The people who work here will do everything to ensure you enjoy your experience. The food is awesome and I'm really sad to see the Massaman Curry with Beef go away for the summer :( But now I'll enjoy my noodle dishes until it comes back!

We have been here several times, with and without our kids. The service is top notch and attentive. Every dish was tasty and well-prepared. I have tried many different things from the menu and everything has been delicious.

One note however - after many wonderful meals at the Typhoon location on Everett, we decided to try the location in Gresham and it was just awful. Food was still great, but the service was not good at all - mostly run by rude teenagers. We asked about the tea selection and we were told that only the 'gross' teas were available because they were all out of 'good' tea.

I DON'T have much good to say about this place. All that we ordered was oddly sweet, when it really shouldn't have been sweet at all; like a sweet version of cashew chicken and a "spicy basil" dish that was 10 times sweeter than spicy. That was disappointing and unappitizing , but what really made us give this place a low rating was that it was all lukewarm/cold, including the rice. This is not a place that we will ever return to; there's lots of other great Thai restaurants out there that one doesn't need to lower their standards to this place.

I'm only a new Thai food eater but it's because of this place that I was interested in trying more. Cute corner lot in trendy NW Portland off of 23rd. Usually pretty busy place but their jasmine rice is good and so was their lunch special (something with chicken and mushrooms) so the wait is worth it if you have time to people watch...

We made reservations for 4 for 6:30 on a Saturday after being told there was no opening at 6. We arrived at 6:20 and gave our name. We were promptly asked if the rest of the party would be arriving soon, not in a kind way but more in the "if you say no you will be standing until they do". Looking around there were at least 8 table free. From there things went OK. Great food, loved the squid app. Everyone in the party enjoyed what they ordered a was glad when more rice was brought out. When it came time for dessert each couple split one. The dinner was for a birthday and the the server was told this. She brought out with the desserts the coconut ice cream with a candle in it. This was nice until we got the bill. The server CHARGED US for the extra rice and the ice cream that we never ordered. We paid the bill without complaint but would not recommend going there to anyone.

The food is not bad, but this place is highly overrated. I really like the atmosphere, it certainly has a very hip and trendy feeling, but the food isn't all that great to match. The food wasnt horrible, just...mediocre. Ive been to several very good Thai restaurants around Portland, unfortunately this simply isnt one of them.

Best Thai food in town hands down - and frankly Thai food is the only Asian food Portland does well and often (unless we're talking dim sum, then we do ok there too). Very unique, nothing too drenched in oil to over curried - dishes are innovative and spicy goodness. They also have a killer drink menu, although pricey so don't get too adventurous as $8-$10 bucks a pop will annoy you if you don't like it.
Staff is very professional and helpful and the atmosphere is very hip and trendy - nice if you like that. So dress up a little (I know Portland hard to get out of the shorts and jeans - wear a clean pair at least).
We loved our meal even if we went by with some of our standard, really looking forward to going again to go beyond the pad thai.

just moved to the neighborhood - NW PDX - and had to try out the local fare.

I was once again disappointed in my food at Typhoon! I ordered Pad-Thai with tofu and got about 4 pieces of tofu as well a couple pieces of broccoli (I also asked for extra veggies) and then lots of noodles. I think this restaurant is very over rated. Beaui Thai is 100 times better and costs much less!

Of all the Thai restaurants in Portland, why go here? Yes, they are "fancy" and they have very nice plates (really they're very pretty), but the food?!? It's mediocre at best, and so very overpriced and underspiced. I have been to the Typhoon in downtown Seattle and it is much much better, but still there is so much good Thai food in the PNW, why settle for mediocre?

I have eaten at Typhoon many many times, for lunch and dinner. The food is some of the best in Portland -- none of that cheap bad chicken meat you get in some Asian restaurants; at Typhoon the meat is always high quality. Try the Pineapple Curry with Chicken, the Green Curry, the Eggplant special dish, the Drunken Noodles, and of course the Phad Thai. The service has always been very fast, accurate, and efficient, as well as very friendly. It gets hopping and fun in the evenings, and their full bar is a plus. This is one of the best restaurants around.

My friend and I went there to eat the other day. First, it took them forever to seat us, then they forgot our water. I dont even want to mention the wait to take our orders. I ordered a pad thai and my friend ordered a tofu curry. I have to say, they have the worst Thai food ever!

PROS: Big restaurant, good for a big group of people.

I went with my parents, who have been to Thailand, and my father said he thought it was the best Thai food that he's had in the U.S. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We ordered the Miana Burma appetizer and then the Five-Spice Crispy Duck, Crab Pad Thai, and Summer Curry, and all were fantastic.

If you want to go to Typhoon order Pad Thai or some other pedestrian dish and complain about the value, what did you honestly expect. Of course a place with such a diverse (and expensive) menu will have mediocre common dishes. Go wild, get something different. They call them specials for a reason...they are good at making them. The whole open air extra crowded thing didn't sit too well with me, but hey, all these people can't be wrong. If you aren't into the whole experimenting thing, yeah, go elsewhere. Service was a little slow, but I've seen worse.

I believe the "PAD THAI" is indicative of a thai restaurant's authenticity and taste.
Our Pad Thai lacked flavor and had to be masked with an overwhelming amount of sugar.

Overall, the good was average, but it is not worth the price or the slow service. If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is not the place to go.

I went to Typhoon with a date and two other couples for a nice dinner and night on the town. Our service was the worst I have ever experienced. Our food was brought out at different times, and our appetizer didn't arrive until AFTER one of our group member received his main course. Our waitress was rude, and we only saw her once, when she took our order, and we never saw her again. After everyone finally received their food, we ate ourover priced entrees. I ended spending $60 on just my date and I. I wont ever go back. Not a chance.

Typhoon! is an asset to the Northwest. Other areas should live with jealousy or start racking up the frequent flyer miles!

If you are in Portland make sure you stop in. We found everything extremely fresh and the flavors explode in your mouth.

Bo Kline is definately the chef that people rave about, and best of all, her patrons are the ones that benefit from this NW treasure.

As far as Americanized Thai food goes, this one must be the best in Town.

Typhoon on Everett is great for bar seating and for take-out, while on Broadway is where we sit and dine.

The food is very good. Eating it quite often, we have encountered only very few "accidents": noodles too dry, inconsistently spicy curries, and not-so-fresh shrimp. However, those were isolated incidents in long streaks of great american-palate-friendly Thai.

Having never been to Thailand, I would not know better... but I've had some really bad Thai food around here. Bad food is just bad food. Typhoon is good food.

This joint is one of our favorites, I only wish they had a west side location (tigard). Chicken coconut soup (tom ka gai) is the best of any thai restaurant in town! It can be crowded, and sometimes loud, but well worth it. Wonderful tea selection also. We tried the cherry tea and it was YUMMY!

Typhoon! is very romantic and modern now. The service is awesome, the food is awesome, I swear even the water is the best in town. I recommend it to any new-arrivals or passer-bys in Portland.

Yum...*drool

Pros: Awesome Food, mango and sweet rice

Cons: Old dishes were cool, Miss our Zen waiter

Typhoon is usually crowded. I thought it must be food, because the restaurant itself wasn't too attractive. It was too small for too many tables. The service was not good either. need more waiters or waitress. Food was all right but nothign special. Besides, the portion was too small compared to other thai restaurant. I don't see any reason why the price was that high.

While passing thru Portland a couple of months ago, we came across Typhoon. Since we are big fans of Thai food we decided to try it for dinner. Wow talk about finding a gem! The atmosphere, service and most importantly, the flavor of the food was excellent. We live in San Diego and although we have good Thai restaurants in our city, we still continue to talk about our wonderful experience at Typhoon. Looking forward to coming back.

Pros: Great Menu Selection

My husband and I had first eaten at Typhoon in Seattle. When we moved to Portland we were extatic to find not only 1, but 2 restraunts!! The food at the 21st location was better, the atmosphere at Broadway was more our style.

Outside looking in, Typhoon! appears to be a great restaraunt to dine at. However, the food lacks authenticity and leaves me wanting more from my meal. The presentation of the meal is excellent. When it comes down to it, you can dress a dish any way you like but if the dish is not fulfilling than you have nothing. When I eat thai food I want to feel like i am getting the most authentic flavors from my dishes. Their papya salad lacks spice and the texture reminds me more of coleslaw than a thai salad. I sometimes wonder if they even use the authentic thai spices to make the dishes.
