I think the world of Dr. Alexander and his staff! My horse would not be alive today if it were not for Dr. Alexander and his treatment program.\r
I think the prices of his services are very reasonable especially for the quality he provides!

Vic Alexander saved my horse's life when she had a severe infection. No question. I saw him save the life of another horse at our barn who had a severe impaction. He's expensive, but so are the other vets I have used. He has

IMHO: I hired Dr Alexander on a recommendation from someone who heard him speak at a forum. True, he is VERY smart and knows his stuff....but don't be fooled...he is out to sell services, period. And in 'my' opinion prays on the people he

I've been using this vet for over a decade and am amazed by his ability to quickly diagnose most problems. He has a great feel for horses and is always very thorough in his descriptions of what is wrong and what he is doing. In fact, he usually explains things a couple times in a row using different words, just to be sure that you've got it. He will explain treatment options but they are always OPTIONS and he will not use the guilt trip method some vets use in order to push a certain course of treatment. He used to occasionally run very late but that has been much better now that he employs another vet in his practice.

Pros: extremely knowledgeable

Cons: occasionally runs late but better recently

After comparing notes to other horse owners that have used Dr.Alexander, I discovered he is known for this kind of tactic- price gouging and manufacturing charges. I was particularly turned off when he handed me a bill with an unexplained charge after seeing my horse. I asked what the mysterious added charge was for and he charged me just for making conversation with him while he saw my horse! Yuck! He didn't even mention it, he thought he could just slide an additional charge in there without me noticing or something! Sleazy! Use Banks Vet instead!

Pros: Local to the Hillsboro area

Cons: Money hungry

I've used this veterinary service for a few years. They have always been fairly quick to respond, especially in emergency cases. They have portable versions of several pieces of equipment so I don't have to haul my horses in to get Xrays and such in most cases. I've been happy that they have been willing to entertain and even suggest in some cases nontraditional treatment options when they seemed appropriate. The primary veterinarian has many years of experience which has come in handy. There are some areas that I find they have weaknesses in, but I am lucky that I live in an area where I have the option of using alternative veterinarians in those situations. The only time I've asked about getting a second opinion they seemed perfectly happy with me doing so and I know that in some cases they have gone out on their own to consult with other veterinarians. I have been frustrated in a few cases that they seemed to be unable to come up with root causes for problems. However in all of these cases no other veterinarians were able to determine what was going on either. I do wish sometimes that they had a facility of their own instead of being entirely mobile. For colic surgery for instance they refer patients out to other veterinarians as they do not have the facilities to perform this or most other operations of this type themselves. As far as pricing goes they seem to be in line or cheaper than other veterinarians in the area.
