I have been purchasing computers from Microtech Systems for over 15 years. They have always given me the best price and service available. This store is like home to me. When I or any of my employees visit or call, they are treated like family. I trust the owners and employees with all my computer needs. Our data is priceless and it says a lot that I trust only Microtech for our computer hardware and service.

***shiesters ***def: Somebody who rips people off or does things that only benefits themselves. "Don't make deals with him, hes a shiester."
I took my crashed hard drive in to get pictures salvaged. they gave me an invoice for 7 hours of "work" and charged me $255 for NOTHING...i walked out empty handed with a huge bill for nothing=shiesters! Does it take 7 hours to tell if a hard drive is unsalvageable?
DO NOT GO HERE ....there are plenty of computer techs on craig's list that put Microtech to SHAME!

This place was recommended to me by a friend. I took my computer in for repair because I had a virus. The folks at Microtech told me when I came in to droped off my system that they may need to reinstall the os and that I would have to reinstall all of my program's if that was the case. I was also told that they would let me know how much more it would be for a new system. They had also let me know that this would mean drivers for all devises like printers, Ipod things like that. I was also told that they would call me if the service fee had gone over $127.50. So two days later i had got a call from the receptionist by the name of Patty to let me know that we will have to reinstall the OS and to find out if I needed to save any files like music, pic's, and doc's. I had told them yes all of the above and she let me know that it would be 65 to 95 more to back the files off reinstall and then put them back on. The next day I got a call letting me know that my computer was done. I asked what the damage was and they said that the fee would be $127.50 for the reinstall and $65.00 for the data a total of $192.50. After I got my system home I found that not only did they save my files they had saved all of my settings and had loaded ITunes for me. This is one company that I would use over and over. Highly recommend them to anyone. It's said that the only people that leave reviews are the ones that have a problem.

I brought my computer in after it "froze" and was told an OS restore would have to be done; I was also told that I might have to reinstall Quicken (which was fine because I have the disc to do that). I was not told that many programs, including the proprietary Toshiba software and drivers (e.g. for my printer) would be wiped out. When I complained that I should have been better informed I was told that if my drivers were going to be "wiped" I should have known what that meant. For $222. I could have added some money and purchased a new computer. Not a satisfactory experience

It's 2008, and I need a basic keyboard. Yessir, we have a Logitech. I come in and the Logitech they're telling me about is an ancient PS/2 that didn't sell. They begin to dig around for an adapter dongle, which can't possibly turn a PS/2 keyboard into a USB. Then they call in reinforcements, and find an expensive, huge, clunky USB keyboard in the back. Uh-uh.

II went to Microtech Systems to have a PC built for my friend because I don't have the time to build one. I consider myself an above average consumer. I found Microtech had an average to below average knowledge of computer basics. Simple information they told me, was very inaccurate. The positive qualification they kept using with me as an argument was, "we have been in business 21 years". So was Tom Peterson.

Average to slightly above average computer info is often beyond many folks. This business could have provided average service to average folks for 21 years and kept their doors open. I can go to Wal-Mart, BestBuy or Circuit City for an average computer system, and possibly at a better price.

Previous to this 'first' review, nobody else has found them significant enough to review. How is it that, to quote the store rep, "a popular and successful store; we have sold hundreds of systems to satisfied customers for 21 years", had no previous ratings or reviews?

Visiting many computer stores, Microtech was not the worst but seems to only offer basic and average sales and service. They appear excited to be sponsored by Circuit City, the 'average of all average' home electronics chains possibly going out of business soon, or to be sold to an even larger chain.

I believe my review is fair and honest. The sales rep was defensive when I asked questions she couldn't answer; attempted to make me to believe I was stupid for asking for something she didn't understand or couldn't offer. I believe their estimate of service and sales is inflated and less than accurate. But, what would I expect them to say, "we are average or below"?

Keep looking; don't waste time there. There are many honest, accurate and EXPERT PC sales and service stores in Portland. Look for reviews by semi-experts and knowledgeable satisfied customers. Good luck in your search for fairness, honesty and expertise. You'll find it if you look, but not at Micrtech; at least not in my opinion.

Pros: Uhm, they have been in business 21 years?

Cons: Argumentative and defensive; if they don't have it, they try and convince you that you are stupid to want it.
