wnt into Cactus Jacks a couple times with great experiance both times. Once met friends there for happy hour with great deals on fish tacos and saw poster for music. When I came back to check out the music saw a super good band "The Sandy Saunders Band" was great!!, Place seems to have a good "regular" crowd that enjoys the place and the bar tender, I think her name was Annette, she was very good.

Pros: good service cool music

Cons: a little small bar area

My husband and I went there for a quick happy hour bite before heading off to a play. I understand that they were busy, but after our food arrived, no waittress ever came back to our table to check on us. We had to go up to the bar to ask for our check. This... in spite of the fact that she went to tables near us 4 and 5 times in that time period. Sure, we were in a back corner, but this was unacceptable. It's the first time I've ever not tipped someone in my life (we're usually 20% tippers).

On top of it, there were people smoking right outside the front door despite Oregon State Law requiring ten feet between the entrance and people smoking. You had to walk through a wall of smoke to get into a restaurant.

Pros: cheap food

Cons: HORRIBLE SERVICE

I was introduced to Cactus Jack's by a friend several years ago. It is probably not a place I would have gone on my own, but I am glad that I tried it. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere unique.

I took my family here to celebrate my 50th birthday and I have to say I have found a diamond in the rough. Amazing service, wonderful food and delicious cocktails. The kids loved the tex-mex fusion menu and the cheeseburger was truly delightful. If you're just stopping by to watch the game or planning a family get-together, Cactus Jack's is truly the best choice. I had thought service with a smile was a thing of the past until I ate at this top-quality family-friendly establishment.

Very accommodating!

We had a group event at Cactus Jacks and the manger was very friendly. The food isn't bad (not fancy but good), the restaurant is acceptable (also not fancy, but not dirty or dumpy), and the happy hour prices are GREAT.

At our event, our server Julie did a wonderful job. She kept names straight, she got orders correct, she always had a smile on her face, she got the bill's right (30 people - separate checks), and she made it so pleasant.

Pros: friendly staff; decent food; good prices

Cons: No place for staff to greet you; parking isnt ideal as they share a lot.

My husband and I have been going to cactus jacks for several years, originally giving it a try because it used to be in the Entertainment Book (it no longer is), and it was close to home. The food is good, not gourmet by any means, but a good spot to have an inexpensive meal and a couple of drinks with friends. The burritos are consistently good, and they have fantastic nachos. While we have had an occasional server that seemed less than attentive or enthusiastic (like at almost any restaurant), the long time wait staff (especially the wonderful Cindy!) are helpful, hard working, and entertaining. As an added bonus, they have already banned smoking inside the restaurant and bar. There is a group of regulars here for a good reason. Give this place, the burritos, and Cindy a try at least once.

Pros: Food and Service

Cons: Usually very busy on weekends

.

Classic Tex Mex standards done well and portions are perfect. Furthermore prices are right and waitstaff is about as friendly as can be.

I've been there a few times, including on Sunday during football season. Probably not a better place to be to watch a game and get some great food around great people.

When a restaurant recommends its worst item as it's best, you can only assume the management either doesn't care or has no clue. I am really ashamed to say this is one of the local restaurants we frequent.
The food is very inconsistent, with exception of the fries. The fries are listed as "handcut" and the restaurant favorite. We have gave them a shot on several occassions, only because they were included with the meals we ordered. The first bite is always the last. They seem overcooked and desperately soaked heavily in stale fry oil.
I would have to agree with the other reviewers that it is slightly shady to bring chips and salsa to the table without asking the diners if they would like to "order" them. If the waitress brings them to the table without request and without the customer's knowledge that they are bring charged (even if the charge is a meager $1), they should be complimentary.
The menu items that are truly tex-mex are your best bets, the other items that are on the menu are questionable, according to who is working and how hot the bar action is. You can visit for a bit of karaoke in their limited spaced bar, or get a couple of pitchers of brew, but once again if it is a busy night, you will likely be waiting for service. The service is actually the best thing Cactus Jack's has going for it: However, the waitresses, as nice as they are, can only handle so many tables at one time. This again is another proof of the lack of interest from the owners/ management.

went in there again recently and had tortilla soup that was kind of weird, the broth tasted like watered down spaghetti sauce??? and there wasnt much chicken in the soup mostly tortilla. Also, we were brought chips and salsa and cheese without asking for it (assumed it was complimentary) then we were charged a dollar. So I don't get that. Also, we were brought a happy hour menu but none of the prices were a deal, whatever. I don't see what the point was of even having a happy hour menu if there is nothing special about it.

The bartender/server seemed nice.. she deserves a raise seemed like her boss didn't really appreciate her.

I'm done with cactus jacks.

We celebrated a birthday last night at Cactus Jack's, party of 6 adults, 2 small children. Only 2 of us had been there before so we didn't know what to expect. The ambiance is very bar/tavern but with a separate dining area with train table, computer games, crayons and toys for the kids. Food was good, kids ate free because it was Sunday (then were completely entertained with the kids area), super-friendly staff, birthday tequila shot & ice cream sundae for the birthday boy (over 21) and 2 big screen TV's. Fun, relaxing place once in a while and great for kids. Very small though. We'll go again.

Cactus Jack's has a real "cheers" feeling to it--a sense of happy community folk, relaxing, drinking, gossiping. Some nights are party-ish, crowded with karaoke and noise; others are calmer, with friendly faces and nice, sometimes quirky staff. The food is fine, not superb; the service depends on how busy they are, but is always polite and hard-working.

Cactus Jack's has the greatest TexMex anywhere
not just Portland. The food is fresh and priced
reasonably. It's a fun place to meet friends
or just to try something different.

Since this is one of the few places open later in the evening, I found myself stopping here, unfortunately. Service was HORRIBLE, and when the food came it was awful, the french fries were uneatable, nothing but grease soaked potatoe sticks, the taquitos were like rubber, and this from their "supposed" happy hour menu. Don't waste your time or your money.

Cactus Jack's is less than a mile from my house making it easy to grab some Mexican food. Being a regular does not mean that you will get treated well. Each time I would go back expecting it to be better, but I was disapointed. I think the cheap happy hour was what kept me going back, but they have changed that (being the only good thing). My family and I have now put a ban on Cactus Jack's. Who needs overpriced Tex Mex with a side of bad service? Not me- not you.

I'm so please that Cactus Jack's went back to offering half their space as a Cafe (families welcome and no smoking!). We went back last week and it is even better food then a year ago. We will return again and again, the food is delicious and so inexpensive. 2 for 1 dinners on Sunday!!
