Well, it ain't fancy, but I'd say Treasure Island is the best value for the money anywhere in Portland if you're in a hurry, starving for great, fast, nourishing hot food that's cheap and delicious. At lunch, I come with the guys at work

Went with friends just after the zombie march this last October in costume. The food was good. No one got sick. What more do you want from chinese? Okay, ONCE I had gormet chinese food and it was awesome but thats as rare as gormet American food and one appetizer costs more than whole dinner here. Headed back today. Not fine dining by any stretch but it does warn with word "buffet" right there in the title.

I have been to this restaurant many times. We go there because my husband is a big fan of buffet and likes getting things at a discount. This place usually has coupons in the clipper for discounted dining.

The staff is always friendly. The waitress has not been as good in refilling our drinks as it had been done in the past. I am not sure if they are changing their policy. When I went up to get a drink for my husband, the manager/owner refilled the drink for me. Personally, it should have been done by the waitress, but the manager/owner is very nice and friendly.

The food is good, just not as hot as I like it. I just like my food steaming hot. I don't know how they do it, but I like there eggplant. I don't eat eggplant any where else.

When you are there during the busy times, they have a chef available for you to get your food cooked in front of you. They have a bar that you can assemble the ingredients before the chef cooks it. The food is also much better during the busy times. If you like, when you arrive, you can ask if the chef is available.

We were excited to try this place. The people were very nice...but the food was horrible and the restaurant was not clean.

The food was not very hot in most cases. Most of the chafing dishes were empty and not refilled very quickly. While there were some really interesting things to try I can't say I really did try them because everything else I was familiar with didn't taste like it should have...how can I guarantee the new stuff was how it should actually taste. A lot of the stuff was not marked so you had no clue what it was.

The food was just yuck all the way around. There was a lot of it there but other than the teriyaki salmon and general tso's chicken there was nothing worth eating...and those two you had to eat lukewarm.

We were not impressed at all. We ordered from the menu rather than getting the buffet. We sat at our table and watched our food be pulled from the buffet. The table was sticky from grease. We were told we would be charged an extra dollar to substitute for a CHEAPER chicken...even though it was not made fresh and was from the buffet. On top of that, we were forced into paying 18% gratuity because we used a coupon. When the meal says it comes with a spring roll, usually it is a decent size and cooked fresh, but instead it was about 2 inches of crusty grease. On top of all of that, what Chinese joint does not have fortune cookies after the meal?

The host was so unfriendly. It was my husbands bday so he was supposed to get his meal for free. The host acted like it was a huge imposition and without a smile or hello he walked us to our table. The food was horrible! All the food was cold and disgusting. We were looking forward to a nice birthday meal and this place was a huge disappointment! This place also seemed very dirty. I doubt they have been inspected in awhile. We would not recommend this place to anyone!

The variety and quality of the food are unmatched in any restaurant that I have been to. The staff are top rate, friendly and very helpful. I was there after it sold a couple of years ago. I am glad it is back as treasure island again. If you want a great variety, excellent quality and very friendly people to help you. Treasure Island buffet is the place to go. It is definately worth the trip!

Pros: The best buffet Around

Cons: I wish I lived closer so I could go more often

Stopped by there for lunch yesterday, a LOT and I mean A LOT of stuff changed. Stuff used to be crap (agree with "Bruce T") there, but wow, it's really different now. The entire restaurant's cleaner, too. Dare I say that I feel that they've really tried?

My daughter is absolutely in love with the orange chicken and this certain noodle dish. ("Rice noodles"? flat and rectangle-shaped noodles) She's been begging me to take some home, so I finally caved and got her a half-pound of orange chicken ($4.95 for a pound i think?) to share with daddy at home.

PROS: acceptable variety, nice take-out prices, daughter LOVES IT
CONS: waiters can be a little more professional

Disappointing that they offer no discounts or coupons for "single" adults. Also, their children discount is complicated.....75 cents per year of child....yet 11 years and older are considered adult. My 11 year old does not eat like an adult.

I stopped for lunch at approximately 2:00 PM. It was a bunch of left over cold crap that looked like it had been sitting for two days. Don't waste your time or money at this terrible joint. I've never had to pay for such terrible food and will challenge my bill with American Express.

We went to dinner here and enjoyed it. The restaurant just changed ownership and the service was excellent. There was a great selection and variety of foods to choose from. The foods appeared to be more authentic than what would be found in an American Chinese restaurant. The restaurant's location is a bit out of the way, but worth the trip.

I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe from that of the previous reviewer, but I think Treasure Island takes the cake as the best Chinese buffet in the area. Perhaps China Moon has increased its quality of late, but I stopped going there a long time ago, because Treasure Island is the far superior establishment. (Although I have not tried Treasure Island for dinner, so perhaps that is the discrepancy?) This place boasts a large selection that goes beyond your General Tso's chicken and Kung Pao Shrimp (although they have these as well), and features authentic dishes seldom seen elsewhere. Check out the little table in the back, behind the buffet bars, which usually houses saran-wrapped bowls of pickled daikon radish, pig ear, and beef tripe. Open up the adjacent steamer for cute shou tao--buns filled with red bean paste and decorated to look like peaches. On weekends, Treasure Island offers traditional Chinese breakfast fare--soy milk with you tiao (crispy crullers), shao bing (sesame seed buns), and the like. These special items are what set Treasure Island apart from its competitors, but most everything else here is similarly well done. There is also a salad bar with limited sushi selection if you tire of the Chinese fare. The dessert bar typically offers several Chinese desserts (Chinese donuts, tang yuan--glutinous rice flour-balls in a sweet soup) as well as an assortment of cookies, jello and pudding. And if you're still hungry, don't forget the self-serve soft serve ice cream machine in the rear of the restaurant. For all this bounty, the price is reasonable--all-you-can-eat lunch will set you back about $7 a person on weekdays. No self-serve beverages, but tea and water are complimentary. The seating (booths and tables) is spacious, and the place is well-lit with a huge vaulted ceiling, giving it a very airy feel. I've been here many times, and it's always been a consistently satisfying experience.

I've been to a few chinese buffets in town and this was the worse. Me and carnivorous_pretzel used an entertainment guide coupon for 25% off each of our buffet meals and came here a 2nd time to give them another chance.

The crab legs tasted like the smell of urine, the eggrolls were thick and chewy, not delicate and krispy as they should be. The selection was not great. The common chinese meat dishes were so so and the sushi was poor in selection and so so.

The service, atmosplere and building are all nice. It's too bad the food is not good here. There are many better buffets to go to in the area. China Moon beats this one out. See my review of Super King & Super King II buffets. They rock!

We discovered this place by accident. It is great! They have a very diverse buffet set up for both lunch & dinner. While you have the food found in more traditional Americanized Chinese food places, you also have a fair amount of authentic foods. Several kinds of kimchee, 1000-year-old eggs, and Mother?s soup...I could go on. For the less adventurous there is fried rice, several stir frys, and egg rolls. They also have a teppen-yaki bar - although we have never tried it, it looks to be of good quality.

Our favorites - stir fried spinach, sweet/sour pork short ribs, sushi, egg foo yung, bite-sized pot stickers, seafood stir-fry, and empress chicken.

PROS: VARIETY - Quality food, fair prices
CONS: Too many choices, "Take out" prices not a good value

Treasure Island is a Chinese buffet and Mongolian grill all in one. The vast array of delicacies is outstanding, though the dessert bar leaves a lot to be desired. Be prepared to be in the mood to make several trips back to the buffet as the selection is very appetizing. Parking is okay, but this restaurant is worth the trip.
