Very knowledgable and courteous staff. Very experienced mechanics. Good prices for service and sales abound. Have been using this shop for 6+ years and never had a problem. They have bailed me out of a lot of mechanical issues, sometimes dropping everything to help me out mid-ride. The staff is not only friendly but they know their products and are genuinely interested in helping out. The "other" shop in State College is full of yuppie idiots who smoke too much dope!

I've had a few experiences with The Bicycle Shop in the past 3 years and have found the staff to be very knowledgeable but 'upidy'. The staff knows their stuff, but is often pushy and makes you feel embarrassed if you're unfamiliar with something they're talking about (including management/ owner). That is, though, if the staff actually approaches you to offer help when they see you in the store as opposed to ignoring you. At times it seems like the focus of the shop is how experienced the staff is and how cool they think they are rather than how they can help you learn or how they could find a product that truly best fits you (not just what they have in stock or the brands they endorse). Take a look at their website for example, one of the main focuses of their homepage is pictures of the staff in a slideshow.

I am in no way affiliated with Freeze-Thaw Bikes, but I do feel much better when spending money there because their staff is just generally less self-centered. The experience that Sarah (below) shared is very similar to experiences that I have had in the past.

Would I go to The Bicycle Shop again? Yes, only if I had to.
Do I like spending money here? I'd sooner spend it at Wal-Mart because at least there the greeters smile.

These people who write reviews for people to see should really learn the English language. And especially learn how to spell, or at least use spell check. I would be embarrassed to put something out there for people to see and not have the words spelled correctly. But then again was this a college student, or someone who doesn't believe in education?????

I never write a bad review about a business, but this needs to be said about the bike shop. I went to pick up a bike my boyfriend dropped off and I went to the counter the looked at me didn't help me started talking to another employye about what they were getting for lunch. So I stood there what felt like ten minutes. he was right infront of me. Then when they finally fiqured out what they were having for lunch and the girl left, then he helped me, somewhat. I told him my name and he looked it up and said I don't have a bike there. It took another twenty minutes for him to figure it out. I mean serously I thought this was a business, but it seems like a hang out and anybody that bothers the people who get paid there is an inconvience.

The Bicycle Shop is VERY close to downtown, and they have excellent prices and selection. They have brand new Trek bikes starting at $199 and a selection that goes up to $1799. They have an excellent assortment of bike accessories. I bought a bike rack here and the saleswoman was very helpful--not pushy and totally understood my need to save money.

They also provide air for free outside, so whenever they are open and your bike tire looks flat, stop by and pump yourself up.

PROS: good service, good selection, free air!
CONS:
