Pros: fantastic service, eclectic wine selection

Cons: none

This place is great! I love to read all the reviews about the old chef.....Kevin Sousa??????? Ummmm who is he??????? You must be kidding. Chris Bonifili made this restaurant great. Mr. Sousa can't hold a match to Chris's creativity and flavors. We were sad to see Chris move on but have found that his replacement is amazing also. His rib eye and lamb dishes are great. They also make a fabulous burger. We dine here weekly and are always pleased

This is one of the 1st restaurants I tried 3 years ago when I was looking at Pittsburgh as a new place to live. In fact I loved that this corner restaurant was progressive and located in an area that you could see what up and coming. I am not sure what happened, but the overall quality has severely slipped. I've heard rumors that there is a new chef(s) but that hardly seems like it would be the complete problem. The staff is not knowledgeable of products, they are slow to the draw, and the execution of their cocktails is rather lazy for a restaurant driven bar menu. The pros are that it is a slightly older crowd and parking is fairly easy in the Walgreens lot across the street. Frankly, Kelly's across the street is a more unique and enjoyable experience.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

The drinks were great, but most impressive was the food menu for the bar. The lounge is welcome break from standard pittsburgh bars; there is a great mix of crowd, namely no college students. will definitely be going back.

Cons: just a personal preference - not crazy about the music (standard lounge dj)

I had dinner at the Red Room over the weekend and it was delicious! i can't wait to go back. The restaurant was very romantic and we had a great time! I highly recommend this to anyone.

Whenever I travel to the Pittsburgh, I go out of my way to dine at the Red Room Cafe. It is an experience than is not easily matched in other large cities. I'm glad I found this gem.

Every aspect of the dining experience exceeds my expectation, even after I've dined there many times! The staff is professional and friendly, the decor is comfortable and I feel relaxed when I'm there. Like resort, but with better food.

The best part is the creativity of the drink menu. What ever your dispostion, the staff can recommend a drink to compliment your mood.

I live in East Liberty and it deeply saddens me to write this review. Yet after my last experience I feel it necessary to warn others. I have frequented this restaurant over the past years and was never really impressed. The staff is relatively friendly but not that knowledgeable on wine or food. I continued to go to support what I thought was a good additional to our neighborhood. More often that not I go there to have some drinks since as I had mentioned the food is less than stellar. A couple of days ago I went with a couple of pals to have drinks. As I am approaching my mid thirties I found the music and the crowd at 2Red uninviting. We settled at the bar at the original Red Room. That is where the crime took place. I ordered two glasses of zinfandel. The bartender confirmed that they serve Zeghesio by the glass. I told her that would be fine. She served the two glasses and then told me the total was $27.20. One can buy this bottle less than 300 yards from this bar for $16.99. I am a single profession that makes a decent buck and I am quite happy to pay a little more to support businesses that I feel are doing right by Pittsburgh. I am not willing to be rapped.

my wife and two of our friends tried the red room for the first time two weekends ago and we were truely impressed! i thought the atmoshere was incredible. low lights, great artwork on the deep red walls, and a cozy fireplace. the food totally matched the decor. it did take a little while to get our entrees but it was well worth the wait. i had a NY strip steak with a lobster sauce and some sort of cheddar mashed potatoes that paired nicely to the rich sauce.the other entrees were fantastic as well, my wife had the salmon dish which was very colorful and delicious. our frinds had the filet and chicken. i did not see much of those plates becauce the didnt want to share so can only image the were great. our server was very helpful in picking out the perfect wine to go with our dinner. of course we indulged in desert and so glad we did. i ordered what was called mini baked alaska tasting, i was three mini sized ice cream scoops with whipped egg white crust that was browned. on the bottom i found little cookies that were still warm. i am definetly going back and telling my friends that our expirence was terrific.

This used to be one of my favorites. I heard they changed chefs and menus but no one said they settled on mediocre foor at expensive prices. Poor quality

My wife and I, as well as several other couples have been frequenting the Red Room since early summer. Kevin Sousa arrived in May and came out swinging with a progressive and delicious menu which was way beyond what the rest of the city thinks is "modern." Long story short, our meal kind of sucked. The portions were enormously bland and the overall food quality was poor, not to mention that most of the flavor combinations were horrible. I had a piece of fish that actually smelled bad as it walked through the dining room. It is a shame to waste such a classy space on such pedestrian food executed poorly and disgustingly overpriced.

i want to like the red room. i live two blocks away. the food is just inedible. i went to see what your boy was up to down at his consulting gig...yo rita in the south side. he is doing exactly what he should have been given the opportunity to do at your establishment, create deliciously interesting food that is unlike anything out there. the problem that many failing restaurants in this city are facing is their complete lack of trust in their own guests to embrace the new instead of grasp on to the old and stale.

Some friends and I recently had dinner at The Red Room and it was wonderful. They are trying out some new concepts that are really cool. It's great to have something so progressive in Pittsburgh. The new chef is doing a wonderful job.

This restaurant has a fabulous ambience - sophiticated and comfortable. The big leather couches are great for cocktails. The meals are superb. It is a nice romantic restaurant where you can enjoy dining without feeling rushed at all. The service is top-notch.

Did not know what to expect but once inside was greeted by plush decor and friendly service. Intimate atmosphere, good for personal or business dining and lounging. Food was satisfying in portion and the taste exceptional. Wasn't made to feel rushed and the staff was very attentive without being intrusive. A tad pricey but the overall experience was well worth the price.
