While traveling through Erie, back in 2006. I was visiting my family. My friend told me to go to Kraus' Department Store; I did and I was in AWE! The store is just spectacular. To believe I even found an item, that I was looking for to fix an old lamp. This lamp dated back to the early 1900's, and to believe Kraus' Department Store, had it. I bought several. I even looked other places, but when my friend told me about Kraus' Deparmtent Store, he was RIGHT! When you can not find it anywhere, I bet you can at Kraus' Department store. I live in San Bernardino, California.

Kraus is the family-run place where you are treated as a good neighbor. There are no long, lengthy aisles to waste time on. In fact, a few steps in any direction puts you into contact with so much. There have been times when I feel they might not have a particular item, but am assured that they indeed did. I have had some special items ordered as well. They are a distinct link to the past with today's needs. I am open to the "home-like" environment which it evokes. Who knows? You might find yourself chatting with someone about a subject of interest (unless they're busy, which seems to be the case most times I visit.) Simply perusing the stock has given me ideas for gifts. And if some item costs a little more than a big store (I have also paid comparable prices) I don't wince. I think of all the time, gas & headaches associated with other quests...talk about another 'expense' there! My only regret is not being able to step back into time by shopping on the other levels. (Check out the staircase.) God bless the small business people! (They seem to try harder!)
PROS: wooden floors, stock @ eye level, courtesy, knowledgeable staff

This place has many, many different items. Household goods, home repair items, clothing items, kitchenware, almost anything that you can think of. Many people don't really know about Kraus and even fewer go. They don't really advertise like the big boys, but they are worth checking out. They are open six days a week and have reasonable prices. Fun place to browse.
