I've been buying my outdoor equipment and most of my outdoor clothing from Appalachian Outdoors for about 15 years. They have a knowledgeable, friendly staff, and the owner wants you to be satisfied with everything you buy there. They stand behind their products too. If you are looking for equipment that is better constructed and technically superior to the run of the mill Internet sites, they carry some of the best lines. I bought a Mountain Hardwear backpacking tent from them about 10 years ago and have used it extensively. It kept my dry and comfortable in an all night heavy rain/downpour. It wasn't cheap and I know why. Great design, top quality hardware, excellent ventilation even when its raining. No, this equipment isn't cheap, but what price do you put on having a ruined trip because you got wet and cold and had to go home? I have a Patagonia fleece jacket I bought there 12 years ago and I still wear it every day about 7 months of they year, and use it for hiking and camping too. I'd say I got my money's worth. You will too.

This place is perfectly located on Allen Street right in Happy Valley. In the summer, they have a great selection of hiking sandals, accessories and boots. They carry clothes that should be worn by people who love to be outdoors. In the winter they have a fantastic selection of skis and snowboard equipment. This store carries a wide range of North Face, Sanuk and Horny Toad products. This store is perfect for an adventure seeker.
