stopped in for lunch today with a co worker. I have only been to a couple Indian restaurants so far, so i might not be the best person to review the food, BUT!! that being said, i really enjoyed the lunch buffet, really good food, everything was fresh, unlike some buffets where you can tell the food has been sitting there a while, maybe we just got there at a good time

I always come here for the lunch buffet. seriously, $9.99 for the best variety, super fresh food. I pretty much stuff myself everytime. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and she loves eating here with me, highly recommended.

I've been going to Sultan for a couple of years now and I can't say enough good things. I've had plenty of genuine Indian cuisine in America as well as in India, and this food is as close as you can get. Delicious!

Sultan's food is delicious, every time I have gone there. I go there at least once monthly for the lunch buffet and occasionally for dinner. The food is very close to home-cooked Indian food. The owners are friendly and the service has always been excellent. This restaurant is a gem!

I am a Frequent Flyer at the Sultan and have never been disappointed. I usually partake of the Lunch Buffet. It has some great standards like the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, and fragrant Basmati Rice. Most of the items rotate and sometimes new items are tried. But there is always a good mix of dishes varying in color, spices, hotness and texture. Also included are some interesting appetizers, Pani Poori, desserts, ice cream, Naan, and most always a goat or lamb entree as well. There are lots of items to choose from if you are a vegetarian or gluten-free. And the Masala Chai...out of this world!

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years, and I must say that the current owners/staff are extremely courteous and willing to help you select the perfect dish for your meal. Still, I almost always get the Chicken Tikka Masala with a side of poori and extra tamarind sauce because it is so good (it was primary craving for about 7 months during my second pregnancy). However, I have branched out a few times at our host's/waiter's suggestion without being disappointed. We also have friends and family that enjoy this place. We're friends with a couple of Australian expatriates, and they get take-out from the Sultan because they love the food (and they know Indian food - they have had their far share from around the world, including India). And when my sister and brother-in-law are in town (they're from central PA), they frequently suggest going to the Sultan because they haven't been able to find Indian food as good as the Sultan's in their area. The servings are substantial, and so I suggest taking the leftovers home for a fantastic midnight snack or for lunch the next day.

These people spoiled us. My wife and I used to eat at the Palace of Asia in Fort Washington, and got hooked on their Chicken Tikka Masala. They sold their business there and the food and service quality dropped pretty dramatically afterwards.

Then, the wife and I took a trip to London a few years ago, and looked forward to trying their Indian Food. I mean... it's supposed to be pretty good in London, isn't it? Okay, sure. It was GOOD, but not as good as what I could find at home. Same thing in Edinburgh. A wide variety of tastes in the several places we tried in the UK, but nothing was as good as what we were used to.

Several years later, we discovered that those previous owners of Palace of Asia bought Sultan in North Wales. I now have my favorite dinner again!

Now, we eat there almost every week and are NEVER disappointed. There is a variance in the recipes from night to night, but everything can be spiced to order. The staff are always accommodating and always friendly. They treat us like family. Bring some wine! Semi-dry Riesling goes well with their food.

Try their Gulub Jamun and Masala Tea for dessert. Go home stuffed!

Pros: Never tasted better

Cons: there is some noisy machinery in the shop next door that can be heard in one seating area

Excellent, I can't say anymore, very fresh food, wonderful flavors via what I can only call perfect seasoning and preparation. The presentation was excellent and the decedent deserts topped off a wonderful meal. I must also mention that the outstanding service and knowledge of the waiter only added to an already wonderful evening

This little gem is tucked inside of an unassuming strip mall on Welsh Rd. Each dish from the chicken makhni to the rogan josh has been tenderly prepared to seduce your palettes! I came here once for dinner and another time for their lunch buffet. I was very surprised to see their large selection of dishes in their buffet (I wasn't expecting this in the suburbs). You MUST try their homemade kulfi!

Hi...This week we went to Sultan,,,Actually it was my choice my friend didnt wanted to go there since we already had 3 worst experince with sultan food. But badly craving for Indian food we went to sultan...it was buffet ,,,the Naan most probably is of my auntys age...The sambar of my grandfathers age,,,If you are an Indian please dont go to Sultan expecting good food,,its a criminal waste of money...And I even saw that they had the review saying best restaurant from city search..the very moment I decided I will write this,,,All the good reviews should be of Sultan owner..The food is stale..and all the veg and nonveg food had the same gravy,,,everything looked and taste alike....the only good one was the paneer masala..which was running out since nobody touched anyother dishes...None of the food were fresh ,,,u will run if you had the pudding or halwa...The sambar was stale...gone!!!! since sambar wont last for more than 2days...
Again after reading my review if you want to try sultan....hahaa.....people study only from experince...Go waste your money,,,,

And if you are the owner of sultan.I have something to tell you..Its such a nice location for business,,,,people come once and if you dont serve them good food they wont come back..initially it might be a loss for you if you start giving people fresh food..but please do so and build your reputation...else the restaurant wont last for long!!!!and please change the cook ..keep someone who knows and is experinced to cook Indian food...

I can't speak for their meat dishes, but their vegetarian dishes are fantastic. The lentils are excellent, as is the saag paneer and the paneer masala. Their eggplant is also incredible. Yum!

The customer service was friendly, and the service prompt. The prices are only reasonable, not great, but I don't expect anything else from a suburbial ethnic restaurant. We'll gladly make the trip to visit Sultan as it is the best Indian in our area.

4 1/2 stars. For five stars, go to New York. :)

The last review was a bit extreme. I have had Indian food all over-including India---and Indian food is usually expensive. (EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE NOWADAYS) I thought the food was very good and the service very friendly. I usually get it to go. Moving outside the city there is a dearth of good restaurants here--and the lack of heat/spice at most ethnic restaurants is pitiful. This place is good and will spice it the way you like.
i work for Merck and we order takeouts all the time and never had any problems
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

With good reason we followed the owners and chef originally from Palace of Asia in Fort Washington to their new Sultan in North Wales . The food last night was delicious, the seasonings in my aloo gobi subtle and distinct and in the chicken dish spicy and distinctive. They are gracious hosts and we were served our meal promptly and hot.

I had order a few takeaway items. On reaching there, looking at the bill I asked the waiter to confirm it since last week (exactly 7 days earlier) I had paid 25% less for the same things. Waiter went upto the manager (Horrible owner of the Palace of Asia restaurant from Fort Washington) and talked. This guy came up to me and started shouting how dare I ask him the price and difference between last time and this time. Costs went up and all. I said I asked him to find out why the cost is different which you could have come and explained to me not shout at me. He had no reaction and just turned and walked off. Not even a SORRY. Not getting any of mine or my friends business again. This is the most horrible restaurant manager I must have ever talked to. The customer service is downright poor even if the food is better than the last owner. Dining is about the experience & with a manager like this I am never setting foot in there again.

I have always enjoyed Indian cuisine. I have been to the restaurant many times. However, I have not been to the restaurant in over a year because I felt the quality of food and service was lacking. When I heard the restaurant was under new ownership/management I thought I would give the restaurant another try. I am happy I did. The service was great and the food was outstanding. The atmosphere was great. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves. I encourage those of you who were disappointed in the past to give them another try.

Satwant and Reena are very friendly

Stated home made soup and curry lamb, but was served Campbell's vegetable and alphabet soup from a can. The lamb was not lamb but was frozen beef stew with curry. This place should be shut down because of the misrepresentation of foods offered on the menu. The tap water and garlic nam was very good . Do not go to this place unless you like frozen stew and canned soup.

We used to go to this restaurant under the previous management and never had anything as poor quality as the meat in the food we had last night. The chicken briyani was very good except for the meat. The chicken was not even palatable. My husband is pretty willing to eat most things and not complain but even he couldn't stand the fatty, poor quality of the chicken used in his or my dinners. As someone previously said, the staff are friendly but excruciatingly slow. The restaurant was not even half full last night and it still took at least 30 minutes for us to have our order taken.

My husband and I used to go to sultan's while they were under the previous ownership but only sporadically as the food could be good or only so-so depending on the day. However, now under the new ownership that's not the case at all.

They have made an incredible transformation in the food quality and consistency! We knew as soon as we ate there after the change took place that something was different, and the owner confirmed our guess when he explained the change over.

We are very impressed by the highest quality, cleanliness, service, and menu options that are at Sultan's since the ownership change occurred. My husband and I are both very discriminating foodies when it comes to Indian restaurants and even he is blown away by how amazing the food is now at Sultans.

If you are looking for delicious food at a reasonable price I highly recommend them. Our favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Cashmere, Chicken Korma, and Chicken Mawi (sp?). We can't get enough of their food and stop there for take out at least once every other week if not more frequently. Their dine-in food is also great as the owners often whip up specialty dishes on the fly for us with whatever is their specialty of the night.

They have a very relaxed and calm ambiance which is always nice for a romantic dinner out without the kids, but without the overly posh feeling of some other restaurants. You can actually enjoy a conversation there too, without shouting over competing table's conversations. All high pluses in my book.

The average price of the check for dine-in there for two is about $45-50 including a shared starter, nan, an entre each, and tip. Take out for two including the entres and nan (no starter or tip) usually comes to around $30.00. Well worth the money :-)

This was the first time to an Indian restaurant for my girlfriend and I. We both loved everything. For the appetizer we had the fried sampler, delicious. For the entree we had a chicken dish with a sauce made from coconut and a bunch of other ingredients, very tasty. We had a side of great bread and a wonderful desert of Indain ice cream. Service was great. We met both of the owners, new since July, and they were very nice and helpful. It is a BYOB, which we love also. In terms of price it was a very reasonable meal. I highly recommend this place, we will be back!

We found this restaurant, located in a strip mall, through the "Entertainment Book", in which Sultan advertised a free entree when you buy one. Since there aren't many good Indian places in our area, we decided to give it a try. Our mistake.

The service was friendly but slow. The food (Chicken Korma and Shrimp Tikka Masala) was bland and uninspired. This restaurant uses inexpensive chicken thighs rather than chicken breast. It really makes a difference. The shrimp in my wife's food were adequate, but smaller than what most restaurants serve.

When the bill finally came, they refused to honor the coupon that they published. They stated that they had changed management, and that they no longer were required to honor that offer. Instead of $15 off the bill, they offered us a 10% discount--about $3--as though that would make us feel better. The manager started to explain how they're spending money to spruce up the interior of the place, so they can't afford to honor the coupon. He said that he had called to cancel his advertising, and that he would not be in future books, but he conveniently failed to post any signage to warn consumers that he won't honor his own advertising. It smacks bait-and-switch, and I have filed a complaint with a consumer organization.

If the food was really good, I'd have just let it slide, but the getting cheated on lousy food by management that doesn't keep its word or appreciate the value of a new customer is just too much to stay silent about.

Don't go home disappointed and annoyed. Stay away from Sultan.

My wife and I visited in August (evidently after the new management took over) and we loved it. We had some basic dishes, but they were prepared perfectly, and very flavorful. Service was quick and friendly. Giving it a 4/5 only because we didn't order a wide enough selection to truly judge it a 5/5, but it was definitely a good start.

UPDATE April 2008: We've continued to go there, and the food has been fantastic each time; raised my rating to a 5/5. The Chooza Chicken dish nearly made me pass out from happiness the last time we were there.

BUT PLEASE GO THERE SOON - it seems like their location isn't bringing in the crowds they need. To lose this restaurant would be a crime to gastronomy - the food's that good!

Pros: Food, service

Cons: Strip-mall ambience

.

EVER SINCE THE NEW MANAGEMENT TOOK OVER, I HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AND THE FOOD OFCOURSE AS I SAID WAS EXCELLENT......
THEIR LUNCH BUFFET IS OUTSTANDING MY FAV DISHES ARE CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA, GOAT CURRY, MALAI KOFTA AND THEIR GARLIC NAAN TASTES GOOD.............
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY WHO LIKES REAL AND GOOD INDIAN FOOD

When I visited this restaurant, at first they took forever to take my order. Then when the food arrived it was totally lukewarm. It wasn't even cooked well and the food had no taste and flavor. Even I cook better at home. Then to add to all this the waiter asks me if I want the leftovers as "take out" and I said yes. After hearing tjis, the owner walks right behind the waiter and yells at him asking him not to pack the leftovers. Then the owner walks up to me and rudely tells me in broken English that I cant have it. I said I didn't in the very forst place ask but the waiter offered to do it. The owner just ignored what I said and walked away.

I have been to many Indian restaurants and believe me when I say this was the worst experience. Please stay away.

We love this restaurant.... tasty authentic food with lots of options for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Please save room for a Mango Lassi or a Chai with dessert. You will want to come by again and again!

We were very pleased at finding this excellent Indian Restaurant in a shopping mall in North Wales. We were greated and seated respectfully. The free appetizer was quite good. The menu was extensive and all the dishes were explained to our satisfaction. My wife and I ordered one appetizer, one meat entree and one vegetable dish (that was it--three dishes for two people). The food was delicious, and the servings so large that we couldn't finish our meals. We were stuffed, but pleasantly so.
I was also pleased with the bill, which was very reasonable, for the quality of food and service. When we return to this area, we will surely dine at the Sultan again.

Truly outstanding gem in North Wales. The food is rich and delightfull. My wife and I were looking for a local place to pickup some quick Indian food, and we found this oasis of a restaurant. We tried multiple foods from the menu, and every single item was outstanding. I usually do not get so excited about a restaurant, and its really hard to find a good authentic Indian restaurant such as this. I am truly pleased to make this my restaurant of choice whenever we have the inclination for Indian food, which is quite common.
