I read the review that said the restaurant looks amazing but the food tastes like a TV dinner, and unfortunately it's true. I couldn't believe how bland the chicken marsala was. I've seriously had better Stouffer's meals outta my oven before.

Great place to have a few drinks, but the food just plain sucks. I'd rather eat at a taco bell.

Pros: Great atmosphere

The atmosphere and location of Positano Coast are wonderful, and I've enjoyed stopping in for a late lunch. The food is usually very good. On more than one occassion, however, I've been disappointed, either with mediocre fare or surprisingly small portions (I've learned to ask the wait staff in that regard).

I just recently ate at Positano with a group of friends for my birthday. The atmosphere is FANTASTIC - what I imagine it would be like to be sitting in a restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Food was excellent, service was good, but not overbearing. I would definitely go back.

I came here for a girls night and we loved it. Everyone loved their food, but the thing raved about the most was the chicken parm. Definitely try the wine with peaches too! Our waitress was superb.

Great atmosphere, especially for the summer. Beautiful place overall. Great, attentive service. BUT.... portions are terribly small and you pay a high price for the ambiance, Oysters at 3.00 per is a little crazy. 19.00 for small appetizer is high. Drinks are good size, but overly expensive as well. I could deal with the drinks if they gave you more food. DO NOT valet here: The valet on 2 different occasions took 30-40 min EACH TIME to get our car. Absolutely ridiculous for a place like this and no excuse. if you go, park in the nearby lot. Overall a good place, but there are better choices in the city.

My friends and I like to stop by here, and sit at the bar for drinks and snacks before a movie at the Ritz. The speciality drinks are really unique and delicious, and the appetizers are great. Try the cheese plate.

My husband and I have been going to Positano Coast for years--it was Lambertis Cucina when we first went.(same company). But I must say that since it has been Positano Coast it has changed in really great ways. When we first went, the service was not consistent, but the food was always good. Since then it has gotten much better and more consistent. What I love is the atmosphere. This is a beautiful restaurant and extremely comfortable. The food is deliscious and the choices ,wonderful;the staff is more knowledgable. My husband and I are not drinkers, but we order several appetizers, dinner, dessert, and coffee- the bill is usually below 100$ or right around there-which is very reasonable, especially in this location. I have been in the restaurant business for over 20 years and I can say with some expertise, that this is a fine establishment worth becoming a regular of.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and so here?s mine: the negative reviews below are CRAZY! There?s many reasons why Positano got that philly mag thing. The atmosphere is so inviting and different, the service is friendly and the food, well isn?t that what philly mag was talking about ? it?s fantastic! Instead of talking about how inaccurate what everyone else said below is, I?d rather mention what I love about the place. The crudo menu ? so delicious ? many times I?ll end up ordering one of each raw italian delight b/c I can?t choose between them. And the sea urchin pasta ? I?ve never had anything like it, such intense flavor. The lemon drink they do ? heaven in a glass! Back to the food, I love the seppia and the skate dish is so different and tastes so good. The shrimp dish is delicious and the gnocchi melt in your mouth!! The restaurant is so beautiful to look at and in warm weather, I love sitting in the lounge feeling the wind and watching the curtains sway in the wind. Very cool!! For a great dining experience, I encourage everyone to give Positano a try - I know you?ll love it too!!

I never had the interest to try Positano Coast until I saw it was named one of the the top 50 restaurants in Philadelphia by Philly Mag. So we decided to try it. The restaurant has great ambience. We sat at the bar and got seated at 8:30 when we had a 8:00 reservation. The dining room was virtually empty. I had already checked out the menu online and was very much looking forward to it, only to find out they were serving a limited menu, Valentines day leftovers, which consisted of mostly meat. For an Italian restaurant to serve mostly meat on a Friday during Lent doesnt make sense. Especially for a restaurant that has such a great "crudo" menu . The wine list was limited but we managed to find a wine we liked.

"Small Plates"is apparently the mottow at PC and they are meant to share , what kind of concept is this? You go to Buddakhan and its big plates, (family style) meant to share. So I was not thrilled when I saw my Branzino come out and it was the size of my palm served with fishy tasting little neck clams.

I ordered oysters I got crab claws, which to be fair were good. I ordered an arugula salad app, to be honest I couldnt find the arugula.
We left before we could order desert , I mean what was next , a little mini cannoli served with custard instead of ricotta for two?

I agree with the two previous reviews, Positano fails to impress on every count. We showed up on time yet were directed to wait in the bar for 40 minutes for our table. We purchased pricey wine that tasted like something out of a jug. Our waiter was friendly but obviously rushed and barely had time to tell us about the specials.

I ordered the branzino and my husband ordered the osso bucco. I have to explain that I am a petite person who doesn't eat a lot, but this branzino was so tiny it looked like an anchovy. The fish was no bigger than my finger and it featured 1 baby tomato split in two as a garnish. Nedless to say I was starving but didn't want to wait for more food, so I ate the entire bread basket.

I think this place is so pupular because it is cheap and lively. The food is definitely not expensive and if you can't tell the difference between a decent and a great glass of wine, then this is your spot. If your standars are higher then this, there are plenty of Italian places in Philly that don't disapoint.

Took my girlfriend out on what I thought would be a romantic Valentine's Day dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, a half hour early, the maitre de looked at me as if I had just insulted her mother by showing up early. She didnt hide her snide looks and directed me to the bar, where I purchased two way over priced glasses of wine. When she did decide to seat us, looking as if she was granting us the gift of life, we were greated by a waiter who barely had the time to finish a sentence before running off to a seemingly more important table. Even when we ordered, I was barely able to finish completing my order before my waiter felt the need to run off to larger sized table. All in all, the food is so so, scenery is nice, but considering the service treated us as if we just received our green cards, I was none too impressed. I wonder if my girlfriend is going to break up with me because of my poor choice for a Valentine's Night dinner. Stay tuned...

Let me start with a quick preface - yes, I have had many excellent dinners in Philly, and no, Im not averse to giving credit when it is due. So, on to the review. Sat night reservation. Seated 1/2 hour after arranged time; not too surprising given how busy it was. Server was nice enough, although clearly over-stretched given how busy it was. As for the meal? Lets just say supermarket frozen pasta tastes the same. Dont believe me? give it a try and dont get angry when you think back to this review and realize you wasted your time and money. Only positive? The lounge looks pretty nice. I gotta say, its absolutely amazing that this place has received so many positive reviews. Perhaps it was a really, really, really, off night. Not planning on finding out with a second try though. FYI meals tried - antipasti (only flavor on the plate was the olives), gnocci, fetuccini, chicken parm and veal. What a colossal disappointment.

I've been here a few times now, twice in a large group and once with a date - and their food is consistently fresh and delicious. The service can be slow, but then, our group had 18 people so that might have had something to do with it (and the time that I went with a date, we just ordered way too much food).

For appetizers, the oysters and the grilled seppia (squid-like seafood) were very good and the prosciutto persimmon was interesting. Beef carpaccio excellent and the olives, delicious. Entree: the osso bucco is excellent, and I think the boar was good but I don't remember it and couldn't get it the last time I went. The lamb was very good and the skate was heavier than I would have liked but it was okay. I had the chilled berry soup for dessert which was refreshing.

Overall, a favorite!

When this place used to be Lambertis, we would go all the time; great pasta, friendly atmosphere, meat AND fish dishes for a great price as well. Waitstaff went out of their way to be friendly and even remembered us. Now the menu is overly fishy, and overpriced. The atmosphere has transitioned into one that is trendy (and can feel a bit stuffy). And considering we don't like fish, we don't really like this place - fish lovers and lovers of small portions may feel differently.

Positano Coast is one of my favorite Old City restaurants due to the relaxing atmosphere and attentive wait staff. Upon entering the establishment on Saturday, we were told there were no tables available, however there was availability in the lounge. Never having been to that section of the restaurant before-- I thought we were heading for a seat at a bar---but I was pleasantly surprised when we were escorted to a room full of couches, cushy chairs and candles galore! I was drawn in by the warmth of the room and instantly knew it was going to be a great dining experience.
The calamari is outstanding- perfectly fried and amazingly full of flavor. The Chicken Rollatini was also incredible--the accompanying sauce highlighted the chicken and made for an excellent entree.
What I love the most about Positano Coast is the wine with peaches---a carafe of wine with peaches at the bottom giving a hint of fruit flavor to enhance the body of the spirit....truly spectacular.
I highly recommend Positano Coast---because of the attention to customer service, atmosphere and terrific selection of various foods that make for an excellent meal.

Nice Bar, good looking and friendly bartenders & nice outdoor seating. However the food is very simple and not well flavored. The cold seafood sampler at $25 was not only a bad value but the calamari had no taste and the clams tasted old. I would not recommend the place.

Positano Coast is an amazing place to experience a great meal outdoors. We went early on a weekday night and asked to sit outside on the balcony since it was a beautiful evening. We were told to pick whichever table we felt like. The food was all delicious. The small plate style allowed for us both to sample several items from the menu. We had the Antipasto & Stuffed Calamari appetizers, the Eggplant Napolean & Lamb & Leeks entrees, the gnocchi and capellini w/ clams side dishes, and the creme brulee dessert. Everyone of them was fantastic. My favorite was probably the Capellini w/ Clams side dish. I also ordered their signature Limoncello cocktail which was also very good and the perfect complement for a beautiful spring evening. I would definitely return in the future.

I was so happy to have found this restaurant! I recently took a trip to Positano, Italy, so after seeing their ad in Philadelphia magazine, I just had to check it out for myself. This place was fantastic! As soon as I stepped in, I felt like I was back in Italy, the decor is simply beautiful. The floor to ceiling postcard style photos of Positano made me feel like I was in Positano, looking out a window rather than in Old City Philadelphia.

We were seated right away by a very friendly hostess. Our server was incredibly friendly, she asked if we had ever been before, and since we hadn't she took the time to go over the menu and answer any questions we had. She was very knowledgeable. We ended up selecting a few dishes from their tapas style menu and a selection off their crudo menu. Everything was delicious. Seasoned to perfection and just mouthwatering. The crudo was an experience in itself and I highly recommend it to anyone. We enjoyed some cocktails with our meal and to anyone who will go to Positano Coast in the future, I have one thing to say, order the Positano Lemon Drop!!! Incredible.

Overall I just have to say Positano Coast was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I know that I will definitely be returning many many times in the future. I can?t think of one negative thing to say about them!

Positano Coast just took an unfortunate turn for the worse. A couple of days ago they changed the format of their menu to a ?tasting menu.? The idea is similar to tapas ? you choose several small plates to share among everyone at the table. However, each small plate costs anywhere from $10 - $20 dollars. We attempted to order five plates for four people (one of whom wasn?t planning on eating much), and were told by the condescending waitress that this was ?not enough food.? She then asked us if we were ?just having snacks? because what we ordered did not constitute dinner. We persevered with our selection, only to find the cuisine to be markedly mediocre. The dishes just didn?t seem to have much taste. However, the amount of food we ordered turned out to be sufficient for us. I can definitely recommend Positano Coast if all you are looking for is a moderately priced drink (especially wine) and pleasant decor. On the other hand, I would suggest that you avoid dining here, at least until they do something about the new menu that is both overpriced and lacking in flavor.

We came here for lunch. The restaurant is very welcoming and warm. The decor makes you feel like you are somewhere in Capri, but at the same time remains very modern. The service is friendly and attentive. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. The prices were very reasonable. This would be a great Italian restaurant, were it not for the food. The food was quite disappointing. The ravioli were so tasteless that no amount of cheese could rescue them. I've had better ravioli at cafeterias. The gnocchi was not any better. I would suggest staying away from pasta dishes here. The seafood stew was just four mussels swimming in tomato soup. Not all of the food was a disappointment. The shrimp dish was very well prepared, and reminded me of seafood from the Mediterranean. The bread and olive oil were good. We also asked for a plate of olives, which was very nice and brought to us for free. Overall, we had a really good lunch even though we didn't like the food. If you happen to find something that's good, this would be a great restaurant to visit.

My boyfriend and I go to Positano Coast every chance we get - we just love it there! The obvious reaction when you walk in is "Wow" - the large pictures of Positano are so beautiful and bright, they make us feel like we're not even in a restaurant, but instead on an Italian beach paradise. On a recent visit for dinner, we sat in the room that has the terrace doors that open - what a great idea - second floor, open air - gotta love it! The food - now that's what I'm talking about - smaller portions so we can try so many different things! Some of our favs are: the crudo trio that changes all the time - such great flavor with raw seafood - love it!! The house scampi and the gnocchi gorgonzola are both to die for! If you go, get the rigatoni side - it looks really fun and is great to eat too...and the mahi crudo is another raw dish that is so tasty!! If you haven't tried this restaurant yet, you are DEFINITELY missing out! It's one that i've recommended to everyone I know and they always love it!

Pros: Outdoor patio/lounge and terrace

We were pleasantly surprised at how good this place was for the price. The food and service were both great, and the outdoor seating was a definite plus. Highly recommended.

Pros: Food, service, outdoor dining

The place is really nice has lots of windows and lots of nice decor. The food is ok nothing to rave about. The service is below average they forgot one of our appetizers and hurried brought our main courses because they had been sitting because of the forgotten appetizer. While my date was still eating her main course they shoved the dessert menus in our faces. I would go back the place is nice the food is ok and its quite inexpensive but I guess you get what you pay for.

Cons: below average service

My wife and I have gone here twice in the last two weeks. We think the food is excellent. The Gnochi, Osso Bucco, and lambchops especially. The tiramasu is pretty damn good as well.
My only complaint would be the noise level. Not sure if it is the acoustics of the place or we were there twice coincidentally with large groups, but the place seems a little loud.

I found the food here to be average at best. I went with a group that tried a range of dishes and we were simply not impressed. Lots of heavy cream sauces hide otherwise flavorless sides. I also not sure if this place is a value as another reviewer suggested. More than one guy in the party had to order 2 entrees which are on average $15/each. Philly is a competitive Italian food town, I would suggest going elsewhere.

My husband and I recently fell in love with Philadelphia on our recent visit. This restaurant was one of our favorites! The staff was very friendly, the food was excellent, and the value was great for big city dining (we would spend a similar amount in our small town on a nice dinner). We particularly enjoyed the imported cheese board (wasn't on the menu, but was a special) and the raw appetizer (oysters, clams, sushi grade tuna, calamari salad). They also have reasonable wine prices. Everything was excellent!

My wife and I live in Philadelphia and had been looking for a place to go for a romantic Sunday evening. Positano Coast was exactly what we were looking for. I respect the opinion of Craig LaBan of The Philadelphia Inquirer and he was dead on with this one. This restaurant hit on all cylinders. The food was expertly prepared. The service was impeccable. You will want to order a few appetizers as they offer a wide array. The three that we ordered all exceeding our expectations. The prices per plate were reasonable. a perfect place to share. Portions were just right to allow us to experience the flavor and flawless execution of the kitchen staff and still left room for dessert and conversation. We were absolutely satisfied with all aspects of the dining experience.

My favorite Italian restaurant in Philadelphia! Its not the common Italian place, its better. I am a regular visitor to the place either for dinner or just hand around the bar and have some wine and Tiramisu (the best you can ever try). First, the place is so amazing; every detail (tables, chairs, and the all scene) will make you go crazy. All you can see in the restaurant was hand made and brought from Italy. Then the service, everyone is nice, polite and well prepared (if your server is Harold, he will make your night the best). Place is romantic and the food has no comparison. All come is small plates, therefore you share. Need to try the NK Steak, Fettuccini and the salmon. Need to start with the Aldo salad and at just end the night with the best tiramisu you can ever have.

Living in NY you get exposed to a number of outstanding restaurants. They all come with great food, ambiance, attitude, and sky-high prices. Positano Coast has amazing food and an outstanding wine selection. The four of us had an amazing dinner, with a bottle of wine, and a round of coffee, deserts and aperitifs, all for under $150 - price unheard of in NYC. If not the Old City's charm, this place alone is enough to fall in love with Philly!
