.

I'm so angry I could spit.

I've gotten my hair done at House Productions a handful of times. Each time, I've arrived at my appointment on time only to have to wait 20 or more minutes for my stylist to finish the appointment before me. I don't mind that and I wouldn't normally bring it up except, well, you'll see...

One time back in February, they canceled my appointment two days in a row due to snow - snow that never came!! Pre-emptive snow. That pissed me off but I continued to patronize the salon since I liked the cuts I got.

Earlier this week, I called to make an appointment for today, Friday. Like most people, I work, and so I asked if they had anything available after 5pm. The woman on the phone said that they usually make their appointments for on the hour but she said that they could squeeze me in if I got there by 5:15 or 5:20.

So I left work a few minutes early and spent 30 minutes on a Septa bus during rush hour. I got to House Productions at 5:22.

As soon as I showed up, the receptionist said, "Oh, we just tried to call you. Anthony has a 6:00 so he doesn't have time for your cut."

Let me repeat: I LEFT WORK EARLY. I SPENT HALF AN HOUR ON A BUS. I WAS TWO MINUTES LATE. And I was turned away.

I suspect that they'd have no problem making their 6:00 wait. But it's Friday night and they want to make it to happy hour.

Oh. Also. My haircuts are not complicated. I'm usually in and out in less than 40 minutes.

Good riddance, House Productions. I made an appointment at a new salon for tomorrow.

Kacie has been coloring my hair for several years and my color is absolutely PERFECT every time. She has an amazing eye for what colors would look best with your skin tone and current hair color. I will never let anyone else color my hair as long as I live in Philadelphia!

I've gone to Katie at House Productions a few times in the last year. I moved here from LA and was worried about finding someone to cut my hair. But it is safe to say I??ve found a stylist I can trust in Katie. She was able to fix my hair after it had been growing out of a horrific cut from another place. And just yesterday, she gave me a super cute and low maintenance style to sport while I am growing my hair out. I have super curly hair, which a lot of people have a hard time with ?? but she understands the different textures within my hair and adjusts the cut accordingly.
The salon itself is cool. It is has a side door entrance leading to the second floor on 18th street and Chestnut. I have never had to wait more than five minutes and everyone is incredibly nice. The cuts are well worth the price and they encourage you to come in for free neck and bangs trims in between cuts.

I've been going to Megan for 2+ years and she is by far, the best stylist I've ever had for my curly hair. I can wear my hair curly or straight with her cuts...and, boy can she get my hair straight too. She spends a lot of time cutting -- my appointments run an hour, but I wouldn't trade that time for a fast, crappy cut.
I won't go anywhere else!

I went to House Productions at its old location and after a hiatus came back to the new location. I agree that it can get super hot there but I absolutely cannot agree with the negative comments about Jessica. I found her after asking a girl with great hair who her stylist was. I have been going for over a year and love her work! I have long curly hair (I always wear it straight), and she is great with layers giving my hair shape without looking like I am trapped in the 80-90's. She absolutely listens to my ideas and for the first time EVER I actually like my hair. When my mom came for Christmas she gave her a much needed new style which looked great-and my mom has short super fine hair. The colorist who did my mom's hair did a great job too.

i agree totally with the negative review about jessica. i too was assigned to her as a stylist. i thought she was a doll and very nice and understood everything i had said about what i wanted, what my personal style was, and how not high maintenance i am with hair. it was the worst hair cut i had in my life! i asked for blunt straight across, and it was a v. i went from having super long flowing locks to all one length to my shoulders then frizzy thin layers underneath. i asked for hair that would lay naturally and not end up being a high maintenance hair cut... it was not! i cried and complained. the other stylists and colorists were wonderful. without them, i probably would have freaked out. one of the stylist tried to fix it for me but there was little she could do. the salon did very little to help my dissatisfaction. on top of all this, during idle chit chat one has with her hairdresser, we found out we had friends in common. actually, my ex of all people. i later found out because i talked to the manager about my dissatisfaction, jessica told my ex all about me calling the salon when she saw him in a bar afterward! she actually told him i was crying and being a baby! she most likely did not know we would eventually speak but i found out everything she said. it was immature and very unprofessional. obviously, jessica is an amateur on every level. i was appalled and now tell everyone i can to never, ever, go there. what a disappointment!

I was getting desperate- I'm one of those people that has had so many bad haircuts, I'm willing to pay top dollar just to get some thing that looks modern. I had been going to another salon in Philly but after being ignored in their waiting room for 30 minutes, I vowed never again- I tried House Productions on a recommendation.
I didn't request a stylist for my first visit, and was assigned to Katie. Let me tell you- she is the sweetest, and most understanding hair stylist I have EVER dealt with. I explained my frustration, and gave her the description of the haircut I had been trying to get for years (angled bob- longer in the front, stacked in the back)- sounds simple enough in my head but always appears as a blunt bob on my head, and I'm too much of a doormat to say anything. WELL, let me tell you- she cut my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it, and she talked to me and kept me laughing the entire time.
I've been back to her since then and will continue to go back there. If you want a modern, edgy haircut- this is your place. I paid $45 for my cut and would have gladly paid twice that.

Lauren is the best. I have never had such a good haircut. She has been cutting my hair for close to 5 years and has always made me look stylish. My friend just had a foot of hair cut off by Lauren and feels like a Goddess. That's how good Lauren's cuts are-- you don't ever have to have a bad hair day with her perfect cut. I really am just a customer (but a satisfied one).

i can't believe i just saw a negative review about jessica, who has been my stylist for the past two years. i think she is amazing! i hope to be her client for the rest of my life -- she always does a fantastic job and is very sweet and talkative. it's hard for me to imagine anyone having a bad experience with her, so i had to ring in with my props :)

I started going to Devon at House Productions a few years ago after a friend swore up and down she was the best. I had grown my hair out super long and wanted to donate it, but was scared to death to cut it. Devon did an amazing job (best cut of my life!), and I have been going back to her every since. I have really thick hair, and have had many bad experiences with bad haircuts because my hair is such a challenge. I have yet to be disappointed with a cut and get complemented constantly on my hair. Nothing else matters about a salon if your hair makes you feel great, and that is the least I can say about Devon's cuts.

I was here to get the tips of my hair dyed blue. It turned out better than I expected. The blue was a fantastic blue purplish color that changed in the light. But as I found myself walking in the city with my hair, the color in my hair quickly began to fade. Maybe it was because I was so self concience about it, in my mind it started to fade. But what do i know, I'm only in highschool. The woman that did my hair was very nice, but she was also styling/dying another woman's hair, so half way through my hair apointment, she began to run back and forth between us two. It might only be today, because the colorist that was supposed to dye my hair was sick, and they were under in staff. It was a comfortable environment and everyone at the studio was friendly and very productive, i highly reccomend it. I am pretty sure I will go back and get my hair dyed again, but with a lighter color to contrast with my very dark, almost black hair. This place is amazing even with my slight problems. My friend recommended it to me, and now I am recommending it to anyone out there in philly who enjoys an awesome hair dye. :)

We at House Productions take great pride in our training, knowledge, professionalism and superior workmanship. That being said, we are very sorry to hear a less than satisfied response from our clients. Saturdays are by far the busiest day of the week at our salon. Many out of town clients, wedding parties, and those looking to relax fill up our day at House Productions. Because of our precision techniques a haircutting appointment takes a full hour to complete. Beginning with our thorough consultation, relaxing shampoo, and custom cut you will leave feeling we have given each and every client our undivided attention in regard to your hair. Unfortunately because of our high standards and situations beyond our control appointments may run behind at times. I would like to take full responsibility as manager of House Productions for not being made available to accommodate you. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. Thank you, Jennifer Eberwein/House Productions

I was told when I made my appointment that the salon only made appointments on the hour (I requested a 1:30 but had to make a 1:00 instead). I arrived at 12:55 for my 1:00 appt. and checked in at reception and was told to sit in the waiting area. Then another girl came over and asked my name, what stylist I had, and gave me a robe. It was a hot day late in June, and the salon was uncomfortably warm. I waited. At 1:20, I was still waiting and no one had come over to tell me my stylist was running late or ask if I at least wanted a glass of water while I waited. I went over to ask the receptionist if there was something wrong. I told her that I had been waiting 20 minutes with no word, and she told me no one had told her anything, either. Then she checked and found out the stylist would be another 15 minutes with her client! Meanwhile, the stylist was chatting away doing highlights on her 12:00 client. I asked if I could at least speak with a manager. They told me the manager, Jenn Weberine, was also with a client and would not be available for another 40 minutes.

I don't understand what the point of a manager is if she's not available to help clients, and why they only schedule on the hour when obviously some services take longer than an hour and some services take much less. It was rude that the salon kept me waiting for over 20 minutes and would have kept me longer had I stayed (I left at 1:25 and made an appt at another salon where I was in and out in 25 minutes--wash, cut, blowdry--the amount of time I was WAITING at House Productions). They really seemed to be oblivious to the needs of their clients. There was another woman with a 1:00 appt who was still waiting when I left. Terrible customer service, unprofessional, and disorganized. I will never go back.

I have been seeing Jen for years now and she is the best! She always listens to what I want and delivers what I want. Its tough to find someone that knows what your trying to describe as a cut or how to re-create a magazine picture ( not all of us can pull off Katie Holmes new hair style), Jen always seems to be reading my mind and goes above and beyond my expectations. The salon is very nice , fun and always up on the new trends. If anyone is looking for a great cut call and book with Jen you will not be dissappointed!

I have been going to this salon for about 2 years now and absolutely love it! Devon is my stylist and she does an amazing job - always listens carefully to want I and works with my hair to achieve the desired results. I also periodically get my hair colored and have that done by Rachel. She, too, does a great job! I am constantly getting compliments on my hair.
Everyone else in the salon is very friendly (not like some other salons) and they are more than willing to take good care of you.
Almost every time I've gone, I've been taken back immediately. On one occassion, the wait was going to be 15min - I was apologized to profusely and given a free conditioning treatment.
I highly recommend this salon!

I went here regularly about ten years ago and it was great. I went again recently and once again, I walked out feeling like I got the best haircut of my life. Jessica was perfect and cool and really listened to what I wanted. She seemed to be able to tell how much of a risk I was willing to take. She also gives good reasons for why you may or may not want to do something. All in all, I love my cool haircut, I will most certainly go back, and I totally trust them.

She also gives good reasons for why you may or may not want to do something. All in all, I love my cool haircut, I will most certainly go back, and I totally trust them.

I found this place while in college, coming in as a hair model since I couldnt afford to pay.
I live in NYC now and I STILL return here as often as I can. Usually to fix up a crappy job some totally overpriced Manhattan place gave me. Every time Igo elsewhere, the results are never what I wanted. This is the only place that understands that "funky" means "funky" - not "suburban teenager" or "let me alter it with what I think will be okay for a corporate office - without asking you if you actually even work in one!"

Pros: just about everything

Cons: well, i suppose the price tag is still steep, but hey, at least i leave happy

I love this place! I have always heard amazing things about it, and when i finally went to see for myself, i was not disappointed. I saw Jessica and my hair is amazing! She was very sweet and took a lot of time talking with me first about what i wanted and the cut came out perfect. Everyone i saw while i was there left with hair that was just as amazing. Very talented staff. There is also a total lack of attitude and it makes for a very fun and comfortable atmosphere. I cant wait to go back and have my color done, ill never go anywhere else.

I go to House Productions on a regular basis...and I love it more and more every time. Rachael is my colorist and Devon is my stylist! They always do an excellent job- whether I know exactly what I want or whether I want something completely different! Whenever I leave the salon, people ask me on a regular basis where they can get their hair done like mine! I LOVE RACHAEL AND DEVON!

I loved getting my hair done at House Productions. I get it cut by Lauren and colored by Rachel. Not only do they do an amazing job, but they are both SUPER friendly, which is nice considering how many snobby salons there are.

The only thing I didn't like was the attitude the Receptionist gave me about paying with my Amex card. If you don't want to accept Amex, than don't offer it as an option, but don't tell me you'd prefer it if I'd use another method of payment.

Pros: Reasonably Priced, talented staff

I recently moved to the area and have been searching for a salon, House Productions is it. I got a great cut from Lauren, she took time to talk to me about what style I was looking for, gave me exactly what I wanted and really worked with my hair's natural curl. I also got great color (high and low lights) from Rachel. She also took time to talk to me about exactly what I wanted and was able to make my hair (that looked pretty fried) look much healthier and thicker. All the staff were friendly and nice, a very mellow atmosphere - no attitudes. It was an overall great experience, I'll definitely be back!

I can't say enough good things about this place. I live in Boston now and I still will only get my cuts and color at house! I've tried other places too and there is no comparison! Not even on the renowned Newbury Street. The stylists at house are not only creative AND, precise, something not many salons can achieve, but also ultra friendly, fun and spunky! Devon, your the best! can't wait to visit soon!

House Productions, right off of Rittenhouse Square on 19th Street (above Loie) is a great place for cuts and color. The stylist and colorist are very friendly and knowledgeable and the salon caries a good selection of top of the line products. The staff are up to date on the latest styles and receive a lot of training. I highly recommend Devon (stylist). (215) 564-9200

amazing stylists that take their work seriously, while still keeping a fun atmosphere . . . precision haircuts that are a "cut above" most salons in the area - even the pricier ones.

Lauren, at House Productions, has given me the best haircut I've ever had. I've gone back three times now, and I still love it. She was responsive, didn't cut shorter than she said she would, and gave good advice on how to keep it up.

I would have given this place a higher score, but I was kept waiting for my very early appointment. If I make a very early appointment, there should be no reason to be kept waiting. This place fills up fast. This place does have the best price for partial highlights that I've found. Even though I loved the color, I didn't like being shuffled off to someone else to blow dry my hair because the place got too busy. Scheduling should be better.
