I recently visited the Zoo for the first time in about 5 years. My boyfriend and I decided to take a day to ourselves, and being animal lovers we picked the Philly Zoo. It was wonderful!! They've updated so many exhibits, and the animals were all out and about. I felt like a kid again, and enjoyed every minute of it. Kudos to the Philadelphia Zoo for the recent changes

The Philadelphia Zoo is a wonderful day trip for families and all animal lovers. They offer viewing of a wide variety of animals, from lions to flamingos, to a petting zoo. The primate house is always a big hit. This is a great way to expose your children to animals of all kinds.

The Philadelphia Zoo is a great place for kids or anyone who is a kid at heart. The zoo is fun and relaxing! The animals are wonderful, the shows are thrilling, and you can spend your whole day lost in the jungle. Kids and adults alike will love the walk through the different animal habitats and the activities presented along the way. The Bird House is one of the best of its kind, and there are always rare animals. If you are looking for a great daytrip, give the zoo a shot!

I can't believe I'm going to "diss" the Zoo everyone is raving about. I can remember when this place was so much more beautiful. The bird exhibits have gone to crud, the lions and tigers are cramped, the zebras and giraffes are in snmall enclosures.. The monkey exhibit is fantastic because it is new.. the petting zoo was closed last time I was there and that is actually fun. It is good but not what it was.

This is a great zoo to visit. There are tons of stuff to see and I spent alot of it in amazement. Most of the animals were not really caged in. They have plenty of open space. Peacocks and turtles walk around. They even have a balloon ride but you have to get your tickets early to get the ride. I arrive around 2:00pm and the tickets for the balloon ride were already sold out for the day. Definitly must go see the lion and tiger feeding!

The first zoo in the country and still a great time with a variety of activities for kids of all ages! With a nice variety of typical zoo animals, there are also a number of features that make this zoo unique--the Wallaby walk, the elephant and camel rides, the swan boats on the pond in the center of the zoo, the rotating exhibits such as the primate house or the African safari--a good time for families! A member of the American Zoological Association, they offer reciprocal admission to those with memberships in other zoos; prices are very reasonable, parking is nearby and cheap--but come early because different features have earlier closing times!

We took my dad to the zoo for his birthday last year and had a great time. The zoo has a great layout, is very clean and has great exhibits. The best part is the zooballoon which is a tethered balloon that raises you up above the city giving you a bird's eye view. It was incredible. Great place to take kids or for a family outing. Big kids love it too! Discount combination tickets available from AAA if you are a member.

Once you walk in, the smell of nature sooths your soul. A couple of more steps and the animals are all around you. I don't really care for some animal smells, but it's nature. It's better than watching television. The employees are very courteous. The place is clean. It's a nice place to be with the family.

The Philadeelphia Zoo has always been the best! I remember as a child going there with school. It is still just as wonderful as I remembered! Wonderful gift shop, clean and very friendly staff! The animals are kept in excellent conditions and well taken care of! There is so much to do here I think a day is not long enough! It is worth every penny you spend to go there! I highly recomend the Philadelphia Zoo for visitors of Philly or those just looking for a fun day trip out! A must see for any age!

The Philadelphia Zoo is an institution in the city. Many will complain- and rightfully so- about the high prices. However, if you live close by, the family pass is a wonderful alternative. Parts of the zoo do seem to be showing their age and may soon be in need of repairs. The new monkey habitat and the reptiles are favorites of my family. The staff are very informative, and the special programs they offer- such as making toys for the animals- are terrific. The treehouse activties are perfect for younger children- and are inside in air conditioning for relief on those hot summer days.

I accompanied my daughter here on a school field trip, and I have to say that while the zoo was nice, it wasn't totally worth it for her, at least. If you get tired easily, and can't walk a lot, don't visit this zoo. Everything is nice , but it's really spread out. I didn't see any sort of tram when I was here. Anyhow, I liked looking at the savannah animals, and the monkey house. Everything was well kept and it was a beautiful place. I came here a time ago when the koalas were here, and they were worth it too. If you are in town as a tourist, check out this zoo. It is better than most zoos, particularly the one in DC and the one in Central Park/Manhattan. But otherwise, it really isn't worth the $50 I spent just for me and my daughter. Everything costs extra. (Like it cost $8 to ride the paddle-boats. come on! Camel and horseback and I think even zebra (?) riding is really pricey too. (Like $20 I think) Lastly, the food and gift shop is pricey too.

The Phiiladelphia Zoo is laid out in a network of meandering pathways on which you could wander for hours. Along each path is a great assortment of animals in recreated habitats. There are often school groups and families that visit here and there are many exhibits designed specifically for children. The polar bears and elephants are always packed, but this is a nice zoo and the prices are reasonable.

The Philadelphia Zoo is great! Upon entering, they hand you a small little map outlining the entire zoo and wow, what a selection there is. All kinds of animals including elephants and apes exist within. It really was amazing to know so much was packed inside. We started out with elephant rides, continues into the aquarium and enjoyed seeing sharks, fishes, and the eels! All over the park next to the animals, there are small signs with interesting facts about each animal which I found very interesting. Our kids loved the parrot exhibit in which they hand you a cup full of bird food and parrots with fly down on your arm and eat out of your hand! Food was expensive and it wasn't even that good, the park was expensive too, but the overall product was excellent. There's a lot to see and do including shows, many of which are very funny and entertaining, I highly reccomend spending a day here, you won't regret it!

The Philadelphia Zoo is a lot of fun. They have a hot air balloon you can ride for an extra charge that was great. The zoo was very clean and the staff was very helpful. There is also a lake where you can rent paddle boats that are shaped as swans and its as fun to watch them as it is to ride in them. There are a lot of great amimals that aren't seen at other zoos to!

Formerly the zoo in Philly was not located in a good area, but it is turning around. It is a popular destination for visitors and class trips and for families. They started a zoo key program years ago to learn more about the zoo's animals. The set up of the zoo meanders through landscaped mini ecosystems. A favorite of mine in the past was the wolves.

This is one of my more favorite zoos to visit. The setting is really nice, almost like a park. It is very clean and spacious. You would never guess it was just minutes from downtown center city. My favorite exhibit is called the tastycake children's zoo, where the children are encouraged to pet the lambs, goats and various other animals. The primate and wild cat exhibits are also very nice. A lot of the exhibits are made to seem just like the animal's natural habitat, which is nice for them and us. Tickets usually Cost around $15 as I remember. A little expensive, but it's a great zoo.

While the price is somewhat steep for a once a year visitor (you can purchase membership for unlimited visits each year), The Philadelphia Zoo is a great place to take the family on a nice day. The grounds are easily accessible by car or SEPTA. Many of the exhibits are great, usually very well maintained. There are a large variety of different animals, and many of the exhibts offer an abundant amount of information. Volunteers, as well as staff are very friendly and informative.

PROS: Kid Friendly

We have a membership to the Philly Zoo and it is well worth it. The zoo is a nice size - a little too big to hit everything in one day though. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. They gear many activities to children. Big cats will be back in 2006.

PROS: Affordable, Great Exhibits, Kid Friendly
CONS: Parking difficult on a busy day

This is one of my favorite zoos, right after the Bronx Zoo. (It is a bit smaller than the Bronx Zoo). Membership costs about $99 but it includes parking and if you plan on going to the zoo often, it will be well worth the money upfront. The zoo overall is clean and the animals appear to be well cared for. Also, for $10 you can ride the Zooballoon! (Air balloon that goes yp some 350 feet - great view of the city!)

What a great day trip this is!! There is nothing better than taking the whole family to an outing at the Philadelphia Zoo! It can be a little expensive. Wear comfortable sneakers. Enjoy all of the animals and if your lucky, maybe you will see a baby or two. It makes you feel like a kid again.

We love to spend the day at this zoo. It is well kept and the animals are fun to watch. It is the nation's oldest zoo, but it has many newer types of exhibits. When the kids were younger they loved the treehouse, a learning, hands on exhibit for kids! They offer many programs throughout the year! You will not be disappointed if you go here for the day!

The Philadelphia Zoo is an amazing place for animal lovers who hate seeing most other zoos "cramped" conditions. The "Great Apes" are a must see! They have every imaginable animal in large "natural" enclosures. The zoo keepers are very friendly and make sure that the animals are observed by the people but not disturbed. They will answer any question you have about any animal. They frequently have areas closed off because one various animal or another has given birth, which is an amazing courtesy to the animals because they try to stimulate the natrual "rearing" process.
It is a gigantic place that will take a full day ,, Maybe more to experience all they have to offer!

PROS: Everything!
CONS: None!

Philadelphia Zoo is a fun and good place to visit. I have been there twice. The zoo looks like a garden and beautiful, especially when you go to visit in spring and summer season. Kid would like this place. The ticket is relatively expensive, but it is worthy of the prize. The only drawback is they seem not have panda. If you want to see a panda, you need to go to DC zoo nearby.

This is wonderful day trip or weekend activity to combine with one of the other Philly area attraction; we coupled this with the NJ aquarium. The zoo is quite expansive so wear good shoes. Your best buy is the combo pass that includes pony rides, Camel rides, boat rental and a hot air balloon ride for the best view of the city and the zoo. Picnic lunches are allowed and zoo is very clean. Don't miss out on the Wild Earth simulators; they're great.

This zoo is first class. They have all types of animals to look at for hours. They have horseback riding and camel riding. It takes hours to see everything and the kids had a blast. They downside is that it is very expensive. It costs us 80.00 for a family of three (my son was free) and I thought that was alot.

This is a great Zoo. Definatley world class, but I would not say one of the best.

This was the fist zoo in America. So it is undoubtedly old. It has been renovated many times since, I am sure, but it has a kind of old look to it. I think it could use an overhaul. THe animal selection is great though. They have all the animals you can imagine and even have elephant and camel rides.

The price of the zoo, however, is very high. The price to get in is high and the price of everything on the inside is high as well. There is a zoo balloon which they just added recently (within two years) and that is really fun and you can see the city from high up, although the tickets for that are in addition to the zoo admision tickets, and are also very expensive.

I went to the Philly Zoo for the first time and was rather unimpressed. The "large animal" exhibit is closed down (and appears to be closed down for the season)...the zoo is quite small and gets VERY crowded! We drove around for nearly 15 mins looking for parking because all of the lots were full! The price of the zoo is definitely more reasonable than the Bronx Zoo, but this zoo is definitely lacking.

The Philadelphia Zoo has always been a nice place to go to spend the day with family. I have been going here several times a year since I was a child and still love it. This has now become a favorite place for my kids as well as many family friends. They have a large variety of animals to see and offer little facts about each one. So, not only will you have fun, but you will be learing about animal life at the same time. Very interesting.

While it's not world-class, the Philadelphia Zoo is certainly worth a visit. The bird exhibit is quite remarkable, and the different areas are well designed. It's a fun day for the family.

PROS: Exhibits, variety of wildlife
CONS: price

The nation's 1st zoo located in Philadelphia, PA is by far one of the best on the east coast. Most of the zoo has been re-furbished over the past 15 years and is a spectacular tourist attraction or facility to teach young and old about animals and their habitats. You can expect a safari adventure, a trek through a warehouse-type monkey house, the opportunity to feed lurakeet birds right out of your hand in a huge cage, or a swan ride on the zoo's lake. The price is a bit high but their membership is very cheap - makes sense to purchase the membership so that not only can you visit this zoo multiple times throughout the year, but also other zoos nationwide. The Philadelphia Zoo is a 5-star zoo that everyone must visit!

PROS: Variety of animals/features/special attractions
CONS: Slightly expensive/Space is limited for development

The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo open to the public. It is very, very clean and the animals appear to be well cared for. In addition the animals are located in specially designed habitats. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and are more than willing to answer your questions. Admission prices are reasonable. Also, for another $10/$12 you can ride the Zooballoon, which I believe goes up to about 400 feet, and enjoy the great views of Fairmount Park and the rest of the city.

I have gone to this zoo since I was a child and have always liked it. But now that I am older and tend to notice things more I can honestly say that it is a nice place to visit but it seems to me that there is more construction and more exhibits closed every time I go. For the money, I really don't think it is worth it. If you want to go see a GREAT zoo, see the National Zoo in DC. Not too far away and free!

PROS: A nice afternoon, kids still love it.
CONS: Price, exhibits closed too often.

Having grown up in the Philadelphia area I have visited the zoo frequently. If I am not mistaken, this was the first zoo in the United States. It is a nice place to take the family for a day trip. They have a wonderful assortment of animals and some good shows.

This is one of the best zoo's I have been too. The place is clean (with no smell) and everyone is very friendly. They have this great balloon ride and tons of animals. Most of the animals are not caged up so its great. They have Peacocks that are free to walk around the zoo and the biggest turtles I have ever seen. Me and my family had so much fun.
