My favorite restaurant in the area. This place is very clean - a rarity for the Scranton area. I love Osaka and visit frequently. The sushi is fresh and the hibachi is top notch as well. It is the perfect location for any special occasion! A major plus - their drinks are not pricey and they load them up :)

The website that is listed here NEEDS to be updated. Osaka has gone thru a wonderful transformation inside and out. The place is "light and airy" inside, not like the cave it was!
Check it out!

I've lived in the Scranton area my entire life, and I can tell you that this is the best Japanese restaurant in the area. The other ones used to compete with it but over time the others got worse, and the Osaka just kept on getting better. Its by far the best Japanese restaurant in the area, and Highly Recommend it to anybody looking for good Japanese food. If your a fan of Sushi make sure to go on Sunday nights because the Sushi is half price. Just another reason this place is the best.

Pros: Great food, half price sushi on sunday, fairly priced

Cons: Gets very busy on Sundays.

I went to Osaka for the first time on Sunday, to take advantage of half-price sushi night. Total disappointment. Service was slow and by a waitress that visited me only three times in the hour or so I was there: to take my order, bring my food and drink, and then bring the bill. She never checked in on me when my drink was emptied, or to tell me why the sushi was taking so long to prepare. Me, a non-smoker, sat at the bar to eat, and there were smokers on both sides of me who lit up when they were done eating.
I waited about 40 minutes for my relatively simple order, and the meal wasn't worth the wait. Eel (unagi) is supposed to be served hot, but it my two pieces were cold and fatty. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy. And it tasted like they used cheap salmon roe for the salmon roe sushi. Also, the seaweed wraps were tough.

Osaka is a great place to go to for sushi. My favorite is the lackawanna roll. they have many special kinds of sushi to choose from. The servers weren't too attentive to my needs though. It looks like a really old building on the inside and outside, because of its history in Scranton, but the sushi is worth going there for.

PROS: many different selections of special sushi rolls to choose from good price
CONS: no sense of atmosphere, no parking space, servers aren't too attentive

I would give this restaurant a better review except the building itself was dingy and the atmosphere could be better. Osaka, has been a Japenese restaurant for many years, just under different names, and the building shows the signs of age. The food was good, but I would much rather go to Kyoto.

You cannot live in this area for very long without hearing about some great function or family dinner at Osaka. Located adjacent to the county courthouse and amidst the best clubs in Scranton, there is no way even out of town relatives or clients could miss out. The cute, mock paper exterior opens up to an elegant dining area, spacious hibachi, lounge, and sushi rail. The staff is friendly, accomodating and well able to descibe every detail of the cuisine. In addition to standards like miso soup, seafood salads, and lean beef appetizers, there is a vast hibachi dinner menu. I have never had anythign less than a stellar time at Osaka. And here's a tip, their Sunday special is half-price sushi and regular rice rolls.
