My soup was very cold. Husbands salmon was raw and my crab cakes had so many shells in them. The waiter was intense and rushed us out. Would never recommend.

Worst meal ever! My husband and I stayed in the city last weekend and decided to go here for dinner. The service was beyond terrible (in fact our waitress was also working at the service bar!). Aside from being extremely slow and never being asked for drink refills, my appetizer was wrong, my husband's entree was wrong, all the food was cold and looked like it was sitting out for hours. AWFUL!

My family and I visited this location last night. The server was very soft spoken and not enthusiastic as I would like her to have been. We ordered the crab cake appetizer - very dry. I got the surf and turf, ordered the filet to be cooked medium, it was rare, the lobster tail was literally burned. My husband ordered the filet also to be cooked medium - it was rare. We both ordered sides - the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, it wasn't until after 15 minutes into the meal that the sides came - and they were cold as ice. The mac and cheese tasted like paste, and the mash tasted instant. We ordered our son the burger with fresh fruit and he threw up all over the place. We ordered "sex on the beach" drinks, which is usually red any other place we go, these drinks came out brown and they were terrible - we pick one night out of the week to spend good money on a great meal and this was anything but. it was 160.00 dollars wasted - will never go there again.

check out their happy hour during the week and on sundays during football season. happy hour times are early though, i think it ends at 6. but for $3 1/2 lb burger and fries and other $3 $4 and $5 specials, it cant be beat!

I've been to this McCormick and Schmick's twice. Once I was seated upstairs, which was lovely in a booth. But downstairs is huge and very noisy. The food is overall good - only a few bum dishes, but they're still at least adequate. The waitstaff is fantastic; very knowledgeable and professional. Its pricey, but the fresh fish is good (try the Mahi Mahi), and its a much better alternative to Bookbinder's. You'll be treated well, so its worth a try.

It?s sad that so many people did not have a pleasant visit here because I did, and I would CERTAINLY come back!! I guess every restaurant has a ?bad day?, but thankfully, I didn?t run into one. My friends and I went during restaurant week, (a first for me, but the third visit for them). I ordered from the ?regular? menu and the food was DELICIOUS!! Everything was cooked to perfection from the Filet Mignon to the asparagus (which I don?t normally eat). The ?Warm Bread Pudding? was heavenly!! Our server ?Sam? was very attentive and friendly and quick!! Even the manager came to our table to ?check on things? ? AND he was sincere. I don?t usually dine in Center City because of the pricey parking, but it was worth it that day. McCormick & Schmick?s have a customer for life!!

Accompanied my wife here on a Saturday night; she was with a rather large group (probably 30 people total), which could explain some of the service problems...but the menu was fixed (choice of salad, entree & dessert was limited). The food was terrible.
I had eaten at the Seattle location of this chain in June, and both the service and food there were forgettable as well. I'll never go in their doors again.

We decided to try their new location in Cherry Hill, NJ recently after only a week of opening. We arrived 10 minutes early and were told to have a drink at the bar and they would come get us in 10 min. The restaurant was crowded and very noisy. There was no place to check coats. You needed to put them behind your seat or on one of the "hooks" on the posts at the end of the booths. We had a wonderful waitress (Karen) and if ti weren't for her, we probably would've left. Water and bread took 1/2 hr. to arrive. (Where were the bussers)?? After cocktails, we ordered our meal. For appetizers, we had fried calamari, oysters and steamed cockles. The calamari were OK, oysters were terrible and the cockles were great. We were just finishing our appetizers when someone arrived with our 3 entrees. Not knowing where to put them, he took them back and 2 min. later returned with the food. Our entrees of wild sockeye salmon were very dry and tasteless. The mahi mahi was ok.
I can excuse bad service after only a week of opening but unsatisfactory food in not accepted. If you must go, make reservatiions. The wait without one was 1 hr- 1 1/2 hr.
I would NOT return!!!

I've been to this restaurant on three occassions now; twice with a group of 12 or more from work, and once with my wife for her birthday. I gave the restaurant three stars only because when I ate there on the two occassions with the group, my food was excellent and was well seasoned. When I ate their with my wife, my salmon was small and unseasoned. To be more specific, I ordered to salmon with raspberry sauce the first time I went with the group and it was perfect. The second time I ordered tilapia with Jamaican rum butter and that was great. The third time with my wife, I ordered the salmon and I think they ran out of the raspberry sauce as they were cooking my salmon because there was hardly any sauce on there.

Other than that one experience, the food is good, the desserts are great if you're in to sweets, the drinks are very tasty, and the service is one of the best I've experienced. In addition, if you plan to bring someone there for their birthday, they will actually print "Happy Birthday (insert person's name)" on the menu. When my wife realized that, she absolutely loved it. Its a small gesture, but its something that is really appreciated. If you plan to bring a significant other, make a reservation and ask for a booth. It makes your dining experience more romantic.

Pros: One of the best seafood restaurants in Center City Philadelphia

Cons: If you drive, paying for parking is your only option

My wife and I almost decided on another restaurant by reading the negative reviews. We are so glad we ignored the negative and went with the positive reviews. The place is fantastic! Our waiter Skipper was the best waiter I have ever had in 4 decades of dining. The seafood and wine were excellent. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The service at this restaurant was unbelievably bad. First, the restaurant made our reservation for the wrong day (My husband made the reservation for our anniversaty/v-day and was SURE of when he made it) Then, the people in line behind us said that they had their reservation for the wrong time! then when we ate and my food came, it was the wrong dish and there was no waitress or manager in sight. we had to wait to ask a random person who worked there to find our waitress. I was so annoyed. I will never pay $100 for a meal like that with that service. will never go back there.

went for lunch with my significant other and my parents. the decor was safe and reliable - nice with lots of mahogany and only a few subtle marine inspired elements, but cavernous. a little overwhelming large for a personal, not business lunch. also, seemed a little empty for lunch at 1:45. $15-20 entrees for lunch, but huge portions. fresh fish from interesting locales. my sole was a little boring (but sole is a little boring). seafood stirfry off the regular menu was good (HUGE portions). seems like it would be better for a business lunch or a meeting of collegues. most of the people at lunch seemed to be in their 30s, 40s, but not fancy business types, just normal business types. we were seated near a "loud talker" - i know a little two much about all of her friends, their situations, how much their making, and whether or not they were attending the upcoming harvard football game.

HOWEVER, i got a look at their happy hour menu - $2 oysters and $2 burgers! super cheap and the drinks seemed to have a deal associated with it too. worth looking into.

Recently had the opportunity to take clients to McCormick & Schmick's. I'm not really one for the power suit/seen and be seen world so I was expecting to be disappointed. In truth we ended up having a very good time. I know it is known for its seafood but we all seemed to be in a steak mood and we all enjoyed our entrees. The meat was cooked perfectly, the service was friendly and quick, and the beers were cold.

Overall, a really enjoyable experience.

My husband and I walked in one night looking for a table and as we waited to get seated, one of the waiters passed me stating "Nice Legs!". I was mortified, and so were other patrons waiting to get seated. Luckily my husband was in the rest room, or the waiter would have found himself on the floor.
The hostess was incompetent and even though there were plenty of empty tables, she could not find one that a waiter could tend to. We walked out, and will never come back.

This was the 2nd time I dined at M&S. We were there with 12 people. My sister and I both had the same dish. Later that night we both became violently ill from the food. No one else got sick but us. I was in the bathroom for hours that night. The next day I emailed them to let them know about our illness. I never heard anything back from them. I will probably never go back there. Plus their restrooms were horrible. The bathroom stall doors didnt close and there was never any toliet paper.

Though it was my first time dining at M&S, my expectations were high. Friends have raved about this place for years. M&S surpassed by expectations above and beyond. We had a wonderful assortment of appetizers, the oysters, I believe to be the best the city has to offer. The lobster was incredible---fresh and delicious. Service was wonderful, the wine list exceptional, and the scene was lively and exciting. With a view of City Hall and Broad Street, my afternoon at M&S could not have been more perfect.

cCormick & Schmicks is definitely one of the best restaurants in which to dine when in Philadelphia. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is beyond friendly, the service is impeccable, and one could not dream up a more delectable menu. With a premiere location right on the Avenue of the Arts and across from historic City Hall, McCormick & Schmicks boasts the freshest and most varied fish menu in town alongside a variety of scrumptious beef, chicken, and other culinary delights. From our appetizers and wine to our dinners and desserts, our meal could not have been more satisfying and delicious. I would definitely recommend McCormick & Schmicks to any food lover or seafood connoisseur!

Mothers Day - 9people. I was blown away! Even packed, our table was ready when we walked in. Our knowledgable server Robert coudn't have been more perfect! Suggesting new things, we found new favorites! The halibut was grilled, topped with a tropical fruit salsa with wild rice/asparagus/shaved carrots. The wild king salmon was topped with an amazing mushroom sauce, laid on a bed of spinach with carmelized-onion mashed potatoes. The Surf&Turf options were endless. Our bottle of Silver Oak was $196, but worth the center city markup, since we never had to lift the bottle ourselves. Even with 4-5 other tables, the service was impeccable!! If you want a romantic dinner for 2 with a window seat, or a larger party with a private snug upstairs, McCormick & Schmick's is one of the only places on the Avenue of the Arts that I'd recommend 110%

I had recently eaten at McCormick and Schmick's in Boston with a party of @ 30. It was excellent. This past weekend however, I was in Philadelphia and while walking in the city, I noticed the Philadelphia location. Dinner for two this time. Restaraunt was near capacity yet they had a table for us right away without a reservation. Nice atmosphere (woodwork/scaled ships, etc.) and good service. Large menu with many fresh catches from the East Coast to the West. Both our meals were delicious. Appetizers, drinks and dinner for two just under $100. I would highly recommend it.

Reservations were cheerfully accepted and menus are printed up for special occasions. If you have a special occasion, save your menu. The seafood selection is awesome. Preparation is excellent and presentation is good. It's not an inexpensive restaurant but worth a try.

To say that a place that offers about 25-30 different varieties of fresh fish and shelfish has no selection is ludicrous. I was there Saturday 7/30/2005 and received excellent service and top notch food. Monkfish was firm and lobster like, halibut was grilled just right and came with a great sauce. Jumbo prawn cocktail was excellent and the coconut shrimp was great because the breading/coconut did not overpower the flavor of the shrimp. On value, show me a place in the delaware valley where you can get fresh monkfish, marlin, sturgeon or halibut for under $24 and I'll go but the prices for seafood here are much less, or at least comparable to, any good seafood place from Philly to the shore. The wine menu is quite overpriced but that is, unfortunatley the case at 80% of the Philly restaurants. Go and enjoy some great seafood!!!

I was surprised to read the other reviews. I went witha group of six to celebrate a birthday. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was exceptional. The only problem we encountered was that they were out of one dessert. The prices are high, but it is a high end restaurant in center city...I would highly recommend this restaurant, and compliment them on the diversity of their menu and high quality of every morsel the members of my party indulged in.

Our table of 5 (arrived separately) had issues from the start - the hostess was dismissive to me (and I later learned that she was the same to most of us) and seemed surprised that I wanted to be sat. Our waitress was just as dismissive (even rolling her eyes when I asked for a T&T cocktail but smiled when my friend asked for Bombay). My second cocktail took 15 minutes to arrive. One of the entrees was Corvina - it arrived cooked on top and RAW on the bottom - and that took 30 minutes to correct. The service was very poor not indicative of the price or the Best in Philly it espouses. I will not return.

The service was very poor not indicative of the price or the Best in Philly it espouses. I will not return.

Pros: Stuffed Salmon, Ambiance

Cons: Service, Service, Service

.

I have eaten here on 3 separate trips to Philly... the first time, my party of about 5 got excellent service.

The next two times, we had about 8 or 9 people. I understand a large group will be a challenge, but our service was horrible. I got the feeling that it wasn't important. We had somehow annoyed our server. It took over an hour to get our food the last time and the server didn't seem to care.

We have a group going to work near there twice a year for the next few years. We've marked this off our establishments.

I do want to say the food is good. I just wouldn't take a large group.

I stopped by recently for a drink while waiting for my hotel room to be prepared. I ordered a glass of Ravenswood Zinfandel from the bar. After requesting the check, I realize that it's $13/glass. This is the same wine that can be purchased in DE for $7.99/bottle! When I questioned the price, I was told that "this is center city". Well, Morton's is also in center city, and much better wine can be had for that price. I thought maybe I was charged for 2 glasses and called today to verify the price - $12/glass. I enjoy great seafood, but with insane wine prices, I will never return, nor will I recommend M & S.

Dinner Tuesday, November 18, 2003. Scallop entree. Cost $20. Scallops were overdone. Side vegetables were undercooked. Couldn't cut them with the dull table knife. Rice was bland with slightly burned taste. Pony bottle of Diet Pepsi served at table and cost $2.25. Told the wait for seating would be 10-15 minutes. Finally seated 50 minutes later. Couldn't find or identify the crab meat that was to accompany the scallops. Scallops served too salty, too hot.

Went to Mc&Sch during restaurant week in Philly. WHAT a disaster-from a know nothing waitress to overcooked fish & chips to a horribly sweet rasberry vinegarette on a overdone piece of broiled salmon - not WORTH the money, even during restaurant week!!! I'll do better elsewhere (EVEN red lobster!).

I went here with a party of 8. After ordering our waiter returned and told us some of the items we ordered were unavailable. which was odd since the hostess had recommended some of it. Next, all but 2 of our entrees were served cold. When a couple people asked to have the food heated up, only the fish got heated, not the mashed potatoes or rice. I ordered the halibit with crab meat and cream sauce. They were very cheap with the crab meat, as I didnt find a single piece! Finally the service all night was horrible. Our drinks were left empty, the waiter disappeared for 30 minutes at a time. To anyone considering going here, DON'T!

To finish, I was warned not to go. Other people I knew had similar experiences on different occasions. I decided to not listen to their advice, and went anyways. BIG MISTAKE!

Went to lunch here twice. The menu was incredible. If you like fresh fish, their menu changes twice daily. The prices were reasonable, and the service was terrific.
