Ok, I have to be honest. The atmosphere at the 4th & South location can't be beat! But, I'm so happy to have Jim's in Springfield! :-)

All the taste of a Philly steak without having to drive into the city. Jim's offers the best cheesesteaks around and some great fries and shakes. It is a little piece of heaven.

I ordered a cheese steak.. When I got home no cheese. The were so busy trying to defrost frozen steak on the grill, to my suprize. I diidn't receive packs of catsup I requested and had to ask for napkins. They did not secure the lids on the pickles or peppers. The bag ripped I just caught everything in time. Bad services all around.

On a recent night in late May, we must have stumbled upon a poorly trained rookie, because although the cheesesteaks we had that night were excellent, there was a kid on the hoagie side that was totally lost. He had no system, no routine for cranking out our multi hoagie order. Since we were eating in, he got more and more nervous at us standing there watching him, the hallmark of the philly sandwich making experience. The meat was cut thick as a placemat, the onions were in chunks, I kid you not, wedges, like cloves of garlic would be, it was a sad spectacle to behold. I am a lifelong Jim's loyalist, but this was a sad day in Mudville.

The way the rivalry goes for the Philly area brand names, Jim's should know better. They should have a boot camp for counter folk before they put anyone out on the front line. One tip: Either you work the counter, or you do the eating area maintenance. It didn't help that when we first came in, this kid was stacking chairs and mopping the floor, then went to make our grub. I understand that they make the staff do both, just try to not have it so obvious to the customers.

Haven't had any problems at the Cottman Ave./Northeast Philly location, but we are going to play it safe from now on. We will never stray from our 62nd street base again, not for hoagies, so help us.

Editorial from

This Jim's location is cranking out good steak sandwiches like its siblings, served up with Whiz---or American or provolone---and fried onions too if desired. A Philly tradition for more than 70 years.
