Went to Shapiro's for the first time in grade school. They were great, knew exactly what to do when there was a problem. Loved the machine that let you see your feet thru your shoes to see how they fit. Haven't lived in Philly for years but it's ashame the business is gone, it was an asset to the community. The family & staff showed real concern that children got the proper fitting shoes. FYI - CARL'S SHOES in Moorestown, NJ is on the same track & Carl worked at Shapiro's for many years. I went to Carl's at the recommendation of a podiatrist for a severe foot problem from an injury. As soon as I went inside & looked around I told my wife, this is another Shapiro's. For people looking for another Shapiro's This may be the solution.
I have a 10 month old granddaughter and I wanted to get her first pair of hard bottom shoes from Shapiro's but it isn't there anymore. I got my shoes as a child there and so did my mother. It is sad it is gone, now I have to search around for a store that has hard bottom shoes and I am finding it very difficult.
