Been taking our cats here for years, but I was compelled to write a review after recent stellar service: Like many families, we're tight for money recently. And we had brought in our cat for a check-up not long ago, but somehow missed getting all the appropriate vaccines. When I discovered this and called in, they offered that we could bring our cat back in without the office visit fee. $40 later, she had the two missing shots and we were on our way. It's a great, friendly clinic (even though I doubt they advertise much!) ...

Our wonderful little dog, Lucky, died on June 20, 2012 from liver failure. At the beginning of May, Lucky suffered a seizure and we took him to Lower Allen Vet. Clinic. Dr. Loy prescribed Phenobarbital and asserted that Lucky had epilepsy and there was nothing else to be done. He had a second seizure about three weeks later, and was very lethargic and clumsy. We returned to Lower Allen on June 13th. Dr. Loy discovered Lucky had developed an ear infection, gave up medication for this, and sent us on our way. Four days later, Lucky began vomitting, wouldn't eat, and seemed in considerable pain. We took him to West Shore Animal Hospital, where they discovered that Lucky had a serious liver infection. By then, the damage was too extensive and Lucky died two days later.

During his last month of life, something was obviously wrong with Lucky. Being "old school" is one thing, but not bothering to do blood work or to investigate what may have been going on seems to be very poor veterinary practice. I am killing myself over not getting a second opinion when there was still time.

Dr Loy is a great, old school, no nonsense vet. No poufing and floufing here, just good solid care for your pet, at a reasonable cost. If you want cutesy giveaways or fancy digs, this is not the place for you. If you appreciate knowledge and experience, then you will like this no frills, no nonsense practice.

I took my new pug in for her shots because I had no idea If she ever got any. Dr.Loy was very very nice about me not having any idea the history of the animal and he was super nice to her when she was struggling when he was putting drops in her eyes. I have never been to a vet office where the desk person and the vet were extremely friendly. I recommend him to anyone!

I originally started going to the Lower Allen Veterinary Clinic when someone recommended the Clinic as a second opinion when my dog had a problem that my previous vet could not diagnose. Dr. Loy immediately recognized the problem and suggested the treatment, which quickly worked and relieved my dog (and me) of his distress. It is a small office but they make up for it with their caring attitude, at least that is what I have observed and found to be the case. One feature that I appreciate is that Dr. Loy doesn't push every new veterinary "fad", and doesn't seem, as my previous veterinarian did, driven by making a large profit. Although I did not need the low cost spay-neuter assistance, I appreciate that this Clinic participates in the low-cost spay/neuter programs, for those owners who cannot afford the higher rates, or who might postpone the surgery because of other vets' high fees.

We took our dogs to the same vet because of the PAWS program, and we will NEVER recommend them to anyone. A month later both of our dogs got infections from the surgery and when we took them back in the caring was not there. WE were accused of doing our dogs wrong by having a "dirty house" and not properly taking care of them. The man did not seem to give two craps about our dogs, just gave them a shot, some cream and sent us on our way telling us that "HOPEFULLY" it will heal, he doesn't know what else to do.

Our dog was not comforatble at all with his man. He asked about licking and we told him that they were not licking at all and we were blown off. They couldnt find the records about them even getting fixed there.

This vet will never be reccomended to anyone that we know. And as far as Im concerned this man should not have a liscense to practice medicine on animals.

I have been taking my cats to Dr. Loy for years, and I started going to him mostly because he participates in a program to spay/neuter at low cost. We use the low cost program because people tend to drop off an average of 3 cats per year at our rural home, and we take them all in. The first thing we do is call the folks with the program and make an appointment at Lower Allen for the spay/neuter and shots and check up. This would be impossible to do without the program and Dr. Loy. Dr. Loy has always been absolutely great. I used to feel a little embarrassed because of using the low cost program, but Dr. Loy has never made me feel that way at all. He is always very caring and gentle with my pets. It is really easy to tell that he is a Vet because he cares so much for animals. I don't know what I'm going to do when it's finally time for him to retire. I depend on him so much, and I am extremely grateful to him for participating in the program. He is the only local vet who does. If you need a good, caring vet, Dr. Loy is the one you want to go see.

PROS: participates in low cost program, caring & gentle
CONS: none
