Hello fellow PA animal lovers. My name is Sue Corvelli; I'm originally from northern NJ and was accustomed to excellent Vet hospitals in NJ. After searching for Vets in eastern PA and experiencing not so excellent services I found VCA Northside Animal Hospital, Bethlehem. I??ve been their customer for the past 7 years; very happy, their staff is friendly and genuinely concerned, they go the extra mile. I do have my favorites and adore Dr. Amanda Place and Dr. Jessica Russell ?? they??re all very capable. Don??t let any bad experiences cloud the big picture; we could probably same the same about our own Medical Physicians. People in medicine, whether Animal or People are dedicated to help us. I think the key is communication with our Vets, the more info we can provide them about our pet??s condition and the more in tune we are with our pet??s health the better the outcome. Never lose hope - God Bless you all, Sue

We had taken our two cats exclusively to Northside, one for 19 years, the other for 11 (all their lives). We took them for their shots, as well as the few times the cats were ill. We were pleased with our interactions with the staff during that time, especially when they took time with us upon the deaths of our cats. After Dr. Higgins left, however, we rarely saw the same vet or technician twice. This wasn't an issue for us, as the cats were getting good care.

However. When we applied for adoption with a rescue agency 2 years after the older cat died, and 6 years after the younger, this agency (I have checks listed as paid to them for years, and that does not count the times my husband, who preferred to pay in cash, took the cats to the vet) told the adoption agency that we had only brought our cats in "a handful of times" . We must have had another veterinarian, because we weren't bringing them to Northside. Obviously, we were turned down for the adoption because we did not take our pets for annual vaccinations.

I should have suspected something when I called to give permission for release of medical information, and the receptionist said, "Oh. That's a long time ago."

Before reassuring me they could give us a good recommendation.

I will never take another animal to Northside, and will avoid VCA because of this.

We had to have our beloved Bassett put down and they were able to get us in almost immediately and were very considerate of our feelings. Conveniently located on a main road.

I used to take my dog to VCA Northside Animal Hospital, and I used to be very pleased with their care. The vets were kind, gentle, and knowledgeable, and the staff was pleasant and responsive. Unfortunately, in the past couple of years, Northside has had a high turnover rate for veterinarians and other staff members. Some pet owners I know would attribute this to Northside's takeover by VCA. While I don't know any reasons behind the turnover, I was very disappointed to see so many excellent vets leave. I can't say with any certainty that my pet's care was compromised, but I soon felt it was time to make a change. I have since found a different vet in the area and feel that my dog is getting better care and more careful attention.

One nice feature of VCA Northside is that the entrance and exit are separate, which helps control the flow of animals.

I can't say that VCA Northside is a poor veterinary hospital, but I also don't think I would recommend it, unless your pet needs emergency care.

PROS: Separate entrance and exit for better traffic management.
CONS: Expensive and high turnover rate for veterinarians and other staff.
