The decor was unique and had a great attention to detail. This created a great atmosphere. The waitstaff were great and very attentitive. I would like to see them at any resturant that I go to.

I love Thai food and eat it alot. I was excited about the Thai fusion menu. We had Tom Kar soup. I usually like this soup, but here it was overpowered by the garlic and not very good. We also had the scallops salad. The scallops didn't smell fresh and the dressing burned your mouth and nothing more. I am a fan of spicy, but this was just hot. Not good food at all. I am willing to pay a high price, but at this resturant's prices, I expect good food. I didn't get it at this resturant and I won't be going back or reccomending it to any friends.

Always wanted to try this modern looking resturant in the skids of Shadyside. A lovely looking place with good waitstaff. Well the overall experience was disappointing for three reasons - the food was inconsistent in quality (some but not all the dishes were delicious, the soups were innovative and yummy - but the fried rice seemed almost devoid of crab and with a burnt taste, umm, it was really FRIED!), the portions were smallish (we were hungry soon afterward), and it is overly expensive anyway, especially for this cuisine. For these prices one should not walk away in any way disappointed. There are several other Asian reestaurants that we prefer for these reasons.

I drove past this restaurant and thought -- hmm. I was craving thai food so I thought -- why not -- I'll take a look at the menu and see what's there. The items on the menu are complicated, flavorful, and creative. There aren't as many choices as some other Thai restaurants I've been to (not in Pittsburgh) but nonetheless I was quite pleased with my order. The green curry noodles with clam and shrimp has been a special for some time -- but they plan to place it officially on their menu soon. It was very good. Though I do have two suggestions for the dish: less curry sauce and perhaps cook the noodles for 30-60 second less. Otherwise, the dish was perfect. I like green curry because it is so sweet, but so spicy! My boyfriend got the pumpkin curry, which we thought was actually sweet potato or yam -- it wasn't stringy enough to be pumpkin or squash. But that was excellent as well. The chicken that came with the pumpkin curry was of generous portion, moist, and flavored (like satay) itself. Typhoon is now one of our top choices for dinner in Pittsburgh! I may try the pad thai next time.
We also got the calamari, but I wasn't a huge fan of it. I prefer my Thai calamari to have a sweet/sour dipping sauce - instead, Typhoon serves it with hot sauce and a sort of mayo-ish green sauce, which to me, had only a very mild taste (and looked like thin guacomole). Wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly how I usually like it.
All in all a great restaurant if you are in the mood for something creative, flavorful, and specific.

Pros: Service, Food, Cleanliness

I have been to Typhoon a few times since it opened a few years ago. I think this restaurant is probably underrated and or at least falls off the radar ,review wise. I have found the service extremely accomodating and knowledgable. Also, the menu is innovative and uses lots of fresh and bold ingrediants. The decor is very urban hip and clean. The only negative I can think of would be it is not a good place to go if your looking for a cocktail before/after dinner at the bar...as there really isn't one.

For anyone you truly enjoys wonderful food, a fun and interesting atmosphere and wonderful ever changing wines by the glass, this restaurant is for you. Have been there at least 10 times all on different days of the week and times of the day and the quality of food and service remains the same - excellent.

Make sure to notice the flowers, They are a treat too!. Absolutely the BEST pad thai anywhere in the city.

The restaurant has a polished interior that combines an industrial feel with warm accents. And that is consistent with the fare -- interesting combinations that are well-conceived and well-executed. The range of food is somewhat limited, and I personally found the desserts to be rather average, but the main courses -- for lunch or dinner -- are outstanding. The service is personable, and the wine list is well-constructed.
