Alexanders is an all around excellent restaurant. The create your own pasta is awesome and you can even do a split plate which is enough for two! If you are in Little Italy and want Italian this is the place to go!
Pros: Great menu, excellent food
Cons: none
I used to live right by Alexander's. They have a broad range of prices, so you can there on a budget or indulge yourself. It's a pretty quiet place, for the most part, and the wait staff is very good. My personal favorites here are the fried calamari and the Mafalda Alexander with hot sausage. The pizzas are pretty good, but the pasta dishes are the thing to get here. The subs here are pretty cheap and very good, and so are a good option for lunch.
Pros: service, prices
This is a favorite friday night dinner spot of my boyfriends and I. We usually start off with a nice glass of wine and fried zucchini. It is out of this world good. I usually get the pasta marfredo. I love the mix of marinara and alfredo. My boyfriend LOVES the chicken parmesan. If we have extra room we get to split either the tiramisu or the rice pudding. Its a total tie on which we get because they are both fantastic. Actually I dont think I have ever gotten something I didn't like here. Its all good. We love going on friday nights because of the hostess Denny, he is very outgoing and funny. He really makes you feel welcome. If we go late enough he hands out the extra loafs of FRESH italian bread.
Pros: Service, Selection
(long) The only reason anyone eats at Del's is that it is the first resturant they see coming off the bridge. If they only knew what was up the avenue a little further. I am a homemade sauce kind-a-girl, I love Italian food but I rather not eat it out. All that said, Alexanders is not only great place for lunch with the family but perfect for a romantic night out. The herbs and seasoning in the sauce are mouth watering. And if you happen to finish a whole portion there isn't a puddle of water at the bottom of your bowl(like other Bloomfield Italian Resturants). The whole staff is extremely friendly and efficient. I recommend this place for private parties whether in their hall or their catering, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Sauce, Service, Seating
Cons: Dave
Alexander's is a regular spot for my friends and me. It's a place that I can take a crowd because I know that everyone will find something they love. The vibe is ma and pa, and the staff is always friendly. My boyfriend (BF) and I always start with the pesto asparagus. The crisp yet tender asparagus is accented with a flavorful pesto and creamy goat's cheese. The sauce is also great for dipping the bread. BF has been getting the stuffed banana peppers, which have become a new necessity. It is not unusual for many of my guests to order the same entree- Eggplant Alexander. The marinara sauce and ricotta cheese are the perfect accompaniment to the breaded eggplant. I tend to fluctuate between this and the pasta. The pasta is mix and match. You pick the pasta, the sauce, and then add meat and vegetables. Sometimes its basil and garlic sauce, and other times it's a creamy tomato. But I always have to add Portobello mushrooms and get whole wheat spaghetti. You never have to struggle to taste the spices; garlic thrives at Alexander's. Don't forget to accent your meal with a glass of Italian red. Although you may be tempted, don't stuff yourself full. Take home your leftovers. I usually have enough for the next 2 dinners! Save room and get a slice of their decadent chocolate cake. Any chocoholic will fall madly in love.
I have few small complaints... Your dinner does not come with a salad, and you can't get a side of pasta. I would really love to be able to get an eggplant Alexander and pasta combination meal. The other caveat is that they do not have lasagnas and manicottis.
When bringing a crowd, I like to call ahead and make reservations. They are always happy to accomodate.
Pros: Delicious
Cons: No salad w/meal; No combo meals
Wonderful food - pastas great, hosue salad always nice and good bread
very crowded at times, and parking is on street...overall a real restaurant, not a chain and real food!
Pros: Affordable, great food
Cons: parking difficult, crowdede
Please!
All you New Urbanist 20 an 30-something living in Bloomfield, Oakland, Regent Square, and the rest of the East End, start flooding this place. This is some of the best Italian in the city.
Pros: Food, Price, Service
Cons: Age
My wife and I took our children for dinner and couldn't have been happier. The food was excellent and they even made up special plates for the kids. The portions were huge and the leftovers made for a great lunch the next day. Our server was very personable and we will definitely ask for her next time. Overall I would say it is the best Italian food I've had since moving to town. We will be back again for the wonderful food, service and ambiance but next time we'll sit outside, weather permitting of course.
Pros: easy to park, reasonable prices, friendly staff
Alexander's has to be one of Pittsburghs best Italian Resturants. For good service and large portions this is one of your best bets.
apparently, you have not tried the food at D'amicos in Bloomfield, it surpasses both Del's and Alexander's. Everything is made fresh , not like other restuarants where your food is served before you finish ordering. Nothing is pre prepared not alexander's and honestly, the prices at alexanders are not worth the food taste
Pros: nothing
Cons: prices, taste, quality
Alexander's has homemade pasta, fresh salads and terrific bread. I think that this is the best italian restaurant in Pittsburgh.
