I love Rouge for lunch when I am shopping for the day in Rittenhouse area. Yummy burgers and great drinks. Great location and atmosphere as well. A tad expensive but a nice place to treat yourself.

I've been here once and pass by on my way to/from work every day. They're known for their burger, which I ordered when I went and wasn't that impressed. For the price tag on it, I expected better. The environment itself is a little creepy too. It's essentially a place for affluent older men and past-their-prime women to mingle and fawn over each other. The weekday crowd is a bit younger though.

I have been really wanting to try this place for some time. I was somewhat skeptical of going after reading some of the reviews. But I had a great burger...we are talking top five in my time. The frites were awesome (though Monk's are slightly better). The lobster spring rolls for the app was phenomenal. The service was alittle slow, the place was very loud and I don't know if the air conditioner is broke but inside it was very chaud. But this place is going for the food.

Pros: Fries Burger Location

Cons: Loud, small, hot (temperature speaking)

To be honest I was completely let down by the food. It is ok at best and for a place that charges $16 for a hamburger which they are supposedly famous for. You can get a better burger at a local pub. The presentation was ok and amount was small.

On the upside the service was great and the atmosphere is awesome. If you want good service and great ambiance for your sub par but over priced meal then this place is for you. As for me, I know there are a lot better restaurants that charge a more reasonable price with ample amount of food with great service.

My overall review of this place?..not worth it?can get a better burger at Jonny Rockets.

I love Rouge. Of course, my opinion could be biased because this was my first date with my boyfriend (one which he recreated for Valentine's Day). I have had exceptional food and wonderful service here. Yes it's loud (but really it makes it more intimate to get closer to your date or friends) but I think they have improved that over time. The food has always been good (ok the creme brulee was a little watery but the top was perfection and it was a busy Valentine's day weekend. Rouge always evokes this old Hollywood glamor type feel for me. I expect Humphrey Boghart to sit down next to me. Always a great time! This places will always hold some of my favorite memories.

This restaurant is in a great spot on Rittenhouse Square. Sit on the sidewalk, or inside at a table adjacent the open windows. The food is delicious. It is known for its desserts to save room. The bibb lettuce salad and fried squash blossoms in seasons are my favorite.

You better look the part if you want to come and enjoy yourself at Rouge. If not, the staff will write you off and figure, (tip wise) that you are a waste of their time. I will never give this place my money ever again. The bartenders act as if they have 'arrived' and only when they feel like it, will they refill your drinks or treat you as a welcomed patron. Go to Parc instead!

ORDERED THE CHEESEBURGER BECAUSE OF ALL THE REVIEWS. DECENT BUT DID NOT KNOCK ME OUT. THE FRIES ON THE OTHER HAND WERE FANTASTIC. TOP 3 I HAVE EVER HAD. ALSO THE LOCATION IS PERFECT. LOCATED ACROSS FROM RITTENHOUSE SQUARE. SERVICE EXCELLENT. WELL WORTH YOUR TIME.

Pros: great service good food

Cons: long lines sometimes

This was my third time. First time service was a disgrace so I figured I'd try it again (anyone can have a bad day). Server was inattentive and standoffish Second time food was just mediocre. This time the bartenders were slow, the food was cold and the servers had a superiority complex.
Stick with Brasserie Perrier where you always get the best food and service!!

Been there twice. First experience was ok. We got an outside seat, which was nice, and ordered tuna tartar, a salad and two mimosas. It took forever for our food to arrive and the server barely checked up on us. I suppose the second time doesn't really count since the hostess said she would call us when our table was ready and NEVER DID! We ended up going to Brasserie Perrier and had a far more enjoyable meal.

In all fairness, I've eaten Rouge a few times. The first time it was fine. The second time, we were placed at a less desirable table near the alley way. We got there early for lunch. We asked if we could sit outside. There were seven open tables in the front. But they told us we couldn't have one of those tables and they took us to the one on the very end. Two minutes later, all of the open tables were seated! Well, we were forgotten about many times when it came to food running, glass refilling. We noticed every table who was seated after us had received their food before us. When we asked the server about our food, she screamed at busser in front of us. I had a bowl of soup to start and they indicated to me that since I had a 'first course' the rest of our order was held up in the kitchen. We noticed plates upon plates being served all around us and no one thought to check on us or even go to the kitchen to see what was taking so long. We ordered two salads for pete's sake! Don't get me wrong, I was a waitress for many years. I am no stranger when it comes to working in a restaurant. After close to 50 minutes (no exaggeration) of sitting there with no entrees ever being served to us, we left. We each went back to work having had no lunch and annoyed at another overrated attempt to eat at Rouge. I called later that day and calmly told the hostess, "We had some disappointing service at lunch today." She totally remembered who we were and sent out a free gift certificate to us. That was nice of her. We returned to use the gift certificate but I wasn't in the mood to be cheery. We arrived at 2:30p.m. - after the lunch rush so we could get some decent service and food. We ended up with the same server as the last time. Lunch was ok - at best. We handed the server the gift certificate stating our free meal because of, "disappointing service at lunch". She took a glance at it, sighed, and said 'thank you, ladies'. We haven't been back since.

Cons: disorganized and OVER RATED

Though we had to wait awhile for a table (there were a good number of people waiting as well), it was a Saturday afternoon so it was expected. Located directly across from the park, it should have been a great view but unfortunately our first table was so close to the street, we just kept watching cars buzz by us. We were able to move to a table on the opposite side of the sidewalk which was much better. Sandwiches and the wine choices were very good - though the wine was SUPER expensive. Service was pleasant, but our waitress seemed somewhat disinterested in us - and we are definitely LOW MAINTENANCE diners. Seating is tight, but we actually had an enjoyable conversation with a large table of Canadian tourists seated near us. Definitely not a place to go if you're trying to have a romantic meal or a private conversation.

The wait staff was helpful and cheery from the time we opened the door. They don't take reservations, but we only had to wait a half hour for a table of four. They took my cell phone number to allow us to promenade around the park until our table was ready. The burgers looked great, but I was in the feeling for tuna. The dish was perfectly done, only complaint being portions could have been a little bit larger. But, if you get the burger, prepare to be stuffed, as my friends were.

I like Rouge, but this place honestly isn?t for everyone. It has all the things you?d think of with a Rittenhouse scene, both good and bad. It seems like the crowd there could get a little pretentious, but I didn?t find that to be the case with the patrons or the staff when I had dinner there with my mom recently. In fact, two women seated next to us struck up a great conversation with us when they overheard us discussing politics. And our waitress was exceptionally friendly. The prices are a little high on some items, like the $16 burger, but my mom said it was the best burger she?s ever had. I had salmon in an oxtail sauce that was perfectly cooked. Amazing, actually. The bottom line is, whether you?re the type to frequent this spot or make it a special occasion visit, the food is great and it?s a chic little place.

soothing ambiance and great music make for a great atmosphere. the chef has designed a beautiful french/ american menu and the kitchen turns out consistently delicious food. the service is excellent - knowledgeable and attentive without being over bearing. i've never been disapointed and always bring friends from out of town here to give them a taste of a top notch philly experience.

The food was very competent, and the wait staff was great. We were promptly seated. and our waitress, Jocelyn, was friendly, helpful and delightful in every way. While the much-hyped burger was good, there were other menu selections that I would recommend. The wine list was good and not over priced for this type of eatery. Will definitely go again. For those that have written less than glowing reviews, go get a Big Mac. Apparently that is the barometer with which you gauge your dining experience. Very good tuna tartare!!

On a Friday night the bartenders seemed like they weren't able to handle the crowd. We had to wait a long time for drinks and we were sitting right at the bar. We would have stayed longer, but didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for drinks. The crowd is good looking and the atmosphere is great. I've also been on Sunday afternoons and had a much better experience with faster service.

Look no further for the best eggs benedict in all of Philadelphia; it's right here at Rouge's brunch. The french toast is also fabulous, and on a warm spring or summer day, the outdoor seating is the best in the city, with beautiful views of Rittenhouse Square and everyone's precious little pooches joining them for a relaxing meal outside.

Rouge sits on one of the sides of Rittenhouse Square, meaning you can be sure to people-watch from one of the outdoor tables whether it's the proximate foot traffic or across in the R-Sqr park. Its small interior is bent on becoming a velvety lounge apres dinner. I had fine & attentive service by one of the "little-black-dress" clad waitresses, she was very kind & helpful. The bib lettuce salad with roquefort cheese & spiced cashews was excellent as well as the pan-seared proscuitto wrapped halibut with lentils. The halibut was cooked to perfection, with excellent consistency. The warm chocolate flourless cake was all right, but it's $4 addt'l to transform it to a la mode! It was amusing to watch the bartender tend to partrons in the central circular bar. It can be casual, but the Happy Hour seems to attract some suits.

I look at these other reviews and cannot believe they went to the Rouge I have come to love over the years. The food is exceptionallly balanced with layered flavors and fresh ingredients. Creative but not ridiculous. Its comfortable, fabulous, real food done right.
The most recent visit we enjoyed a sampling of items. The burger- it is huge, and if I am not mistaken, it must be ground tenderloin, and the "fixins" are the perfect complement down to the "a la minute" frites. The tuna tartar is exceptional in traditional flavors, the portion enough for a dinner. We couldn't refuse the sound of filet special and we were not disappointed. Wrapped in bacon with Morel mushrooms, demi glace, onions rings and a chunk of blue cheese. As a matter of fact, we have never been disappointed and I don't think you will be either. Compliments to the chef!!!!!

I love the way this place smells when I walk by... is that weird? It's intimate and comfortable. A great place to sit after work or in the afternoon for a glass of wine. Small wine list-- but lovely choices. Clams were delicious. Burger, however came out raw...not rare, but raw when ordered medium... Which was dissapointing b/c I had such high expectations. Overall, I really enjoy this restaurant for a small bite and drink.

If you want to see and be seen, then sit right in the front window wearing your best outfit. Unfortunately, in Philly no one pays attention to fashion or physical fitness so there's not much too look at and not many people to impress. Sorry I'm so negative, but if you want good food, and a well prepared drink stay away from Rittenhouse square. The surrounding city blocks have much more to offer without the attitude.

Two friends and I met last night for an early dinner. We sat at the table right on the edge of the interior and while it was the perfect spot to people watch and feel outdoors, it had just rained and our table was constanly getting dropped on from above. We used our napkins to wipe up the water and they were drenched when we left. Also the speaker was directly above our table and when we asked a waitress to please turn the music down, she acted as if we had asked her to give us a free meal. In any case, she obliged. Food was quite good but really too overpriced for the amount.

Also the speaker was directly above our table and when we asked a waitress to please turn the music down, she acted as if we had asked her to give us a free meal. In any case, she obliged. Food was quite good but really too overpriced for the amount.

Pros: Scenic Location, Food Quality

Cons: Overpriced, Small Portions, Slow Service

.

Food was good. But the service was really quite annoying. The server was aloof, and his knowledge of the menu items was limited. He was also down right rude to the table next to ours.

I went to Rouge with my husband for my birthday on the late night. They have these hamburgers that are huge and the apple turnovers with ice cream (apple pie a la mode) is beyond words.

I enjoyed myself each of the times I have gone to Rouge. The atmosphere is quite attractive, and the food very tasty. I have been there for dinner, as well as parties in the late evening. I highly recommend.

Pros: people watcing, great food, out door seating

Cons: crowded, not for large parties

If I am going to be paying $6 for a weak drink and $9 for two eggrolls, service better be attentive and fast. I would like this place if service was better. Last time me and my boyfriend were there, we could've left without paying and I don't think the server would have even noticed. I guess if you are not a fake looking, aging corporate shmuck....you will not get fast service. I'll take my money somewhere else.

It is so refreshing to spend money to dine and feel like it was absolutely worth it. I had the most beautiful server, who seemed to know everyone. The food was so good that I almost cried. The chef must be a genious. Then, to top off my evening, who should stroll in but Kevin Smith! I had the time of my life.

I was in Philly for the first time in 4 years, was just in from nyc.. I got off the train and found my crowned jewel which enhanced my visit completely, it was this little map and guide called Playground Maps. This map, (although more of an entertainment guide) directed me ot a couple of restaurants I had not heard of before. I noticed on the picture (map is an illustration) there was a park with a cute row of restaurants, I chose Rouge. AWESOME. The burger and the setting was perfect for summer, really cool crowd. I kind of strolled around the city the remainder of the day, before I stopped in for a couple of cocktails at TRUST, another recommendation from my Phiily friend (map), place was awesome, really downtown crowd and decor. I brought my map back to nyc for my friends going to philly!

Location IS everything! Right on Rittenhouse, you couldnt ask for a better environment, or a better crowd. I'd recommend it for the 20-30 year old singles in the area.

Pros: it's on the square, outdoor dinning

As they say in real estate, location is everything. Given its spot on Rittenhouse Square, Rouge is understandably popular. After several visits to their bar, I finally had a full meal there. The food, while adequate, is hardly in the top tier category that this restaurant so often garners. The service is barely a step up from Denny's. I'd say skip dinner and do drinks and appetizers here.

I like Rouge. Who cares about pretention??? People need to mind their own business, judge not lest ye be judged.

The food is good, the service is good, the drinks are great, and relatively inexpensive, and there are attractive people around. My buddy took me there for the first time, loved it, we took our girlfriends there, they loved it.

Enjoy yourself and get your attention off of what others are doing,
