Joe Mama's has great food and great service. Homemade soups are great. I love their wraps. Unstuffy, casual, 50s decor. One of my favorite Oakland lunch spots.

This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and a friendly staff. The food is reasonably priced and generally pretty good. This is not your typical italian restaurant... It is more of a diner. Their menu has a lot of options and reasonable pricfes. However, there isn't a smoking section aside from bar seating. Also, they feature a half-price menu between 11 PM and midnight.

PROS: Laid back environment
CONS: No smoking section

overpriced if you ask me. I love the food, however I just think it is a little expensive. The place is really cute and they really do a nice job with a story line and theme to the restaurant. Drinks are good, and I will give them that the do have some of the best house dressing for the salad that I have ever had. I always get the Marcella cream sauce dish....it is simply divine.

I have never had the dessert because I am always full. And on Monday nights they have all you can eat pasta....but that isn't such a good idea - especially if you are dieting!

This italian restaurant is located in the heart of the University of Pittsburgh so don't be surprised if the line is out the door. Students as well as business workers come here to relax. The atmosphere is set up like a Friday's or Max and Erma's with pictures on the wall. It makes me feel like I can stay for hours, but of course, I have to get back to work. The food is divine and I suggest anything with italian sausage. The portions are more than enough for two people and are reasonably priced.

I'm not a yuppie that goes to fancy schmancy restaurants, but I know good food when I taste it, even if it doesn't cost $50 a plate. The atmosphere of the joint is very pleasing, especially when ol' blue eyes is playing in the background (they also play oldies and a mix of other genres). Decor makes you feel your back in the 50's, where I long to be. The food is outta this world...my favorites are the spinach and artichoke dip, wedding soup, house salad(the best salad on earth), and any of their main dishes. Portions are plentiful and sooo filling, I usually have to take it home with me. If I can take a full blooded Italian there who hates eating any Italian food but his own and he can't stop talking about the place....then you know they are outstanding! Definetly my favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh...salute!

I suggest going to a -real- Italian restaurant. Food at Joe Mamma's isn't that great (and is a horrible value unless you go for the half-price special). Atmosphere is very corny and fake. This place looks inside as if its owner(s) paid to have marketing specialists come in and create the decor -- which is so contrived it looks ridiculous. Noises from bar area (loud talking, laughing, and television sounds) often fill the main room of the restaurant.

My sister worked there and I went to try it for her. They had some of the best Italian food I have had in the states. I live in Italy so it is hard to find good Italian food. Those saying this place is bad can stick with Olive Garden because this is what authentic Italian should taste like. You all need to work on the pizza to make it more authentic though then it would be the best ever!!!!

I have been to Joe Mama's several times and the food was always very good, with the exception of the pizza (which I don't recommend). The atmosphere is very cozy and the service was friendly and prompt.

I went to Oakland for a meeting. We stopped at Joe Mama's first to meet up. I loved the atmosphere. It was homey and made me feel like I was in Old New York. The food was excellent. I can't wait to come back to Oakland. I recommend it to everyone. Keep up the good work.
