I went to this salon after my original hair stylist moved. The stylist was a guy...was very unattentive...made me brush out my own hair because it was too tangled!!! Then charged me a ridiculous amount of money..and a horrible blow out. Never again...

I had a color appt scheduled at this salon for a few weeks as I am brand new to the area. Rachel called me to cancel the appt 2 days before bc the stylist couldn't come in that day. She asked me to come in earlier which I had to check w work, disppointed I didn't say much, harshly she retorted well I can tell ur angry so why don't you just forget it & not come in at all!!! Really?? I was so shocked at how rudely I was treated!! She has never met me yet she told me not to come in at all!?? The amount of unprofessionalism brought me to tears. Here I am 2 days before a huge event this weekend & not only did she not accommodate me due to her cancelation I was floored at her tone of voice & the way she spoke to me....I guess this salon is making so much money that they can rudely drive new customers away before they even get in the door! Thanks goodness the wonderful staff at Corinthian Wellness in Newtown Square were very courteous, professional & accommodating. They are an aveda concept salon & they got me scheduled in such short notice. Heed my advice, if you want a positive professional experience stay away from de ja vu!!

I was a new client at this salon and recieved a gift certificate from my boyfriend upon recomendation from a friend of ours. I was a little nervous because I had been with a stylist for several years. I will never go anywhere but Deja Vu again. I was given a selection of stylists with a range of prices (which I thought was nice instead of an across the board price.) I started off with a 75 min "classic" facial meaning that whatever issue I had with my skin they would be happy to address. Not only was my skin better than ever when I left but the skin care specialst Shannon was excellent. She thought of what I might have needed before I even had to ask as well as offering a good deal of education about what I could do at home to maintain (without being too pushy about products, as my previous salon tended to be) I then went to a massage with Toni who's main concern was my comfort and relaxation during the massage, reserving the chit chat and education for afterwards (EXTREMLEY relaxing!!) right there I could have checked my day off as a good one, but I wasn't done yet. I recieved a fantastic and lenghty head massage before I headed to my stylist Megan. Not only did she ask all the right questions about my hair (making me feel like it was much easier to communicate with people who knew more about the process of hairstyling than I had) but she seemed genuinley interested in things I had to say about myself in general and even metioned a few things about herself ( it's kind of nice to have your hair done by someone who doesn't act like a robot working an assembly line). Needless to say I felt like the most important person in the salon though everyone seemed busy enough that they could have ignored me if they wanted to. In between all of this I got a hand massage, my choice of tea, and a granola bar. (they also offer margaritas!!!) when I checked out they already had the product I wanted at the desk and put me in a drawing to win another gift certificate for making my next appointment ahead of time ( which I am looking forward to) all in all the staff was young but experienced (ok I admit I was eavesdropping on some of the other stylists talking to their "guests", which I frequently heard them refered to as) the atmosphere was fun and relaxing at the same time as well as clean and sanitary. I assure anyone who plans to go there that they will enjoy themselves and walk out happy. I love this salon!!! (and now my boyfriend does too!!) five stars AND two thumbs up :-)

This will be a horror story!
My boyfriend's hair was almost shoulder-length; he wanted it trimmed.
When I called to make the appointment for him I specifically mentioned a "trim up.
He was assigned to Jenny, a nice looking young lady in her early twenties. (In fact, of the 8 or 9 emloyees we saw, only one looked to be older than 22.)

While the shampoo girl was washing his hair, I chatted with Jennie, telling her several times that we wanted the hair kept long, that he just needed it to be trimmed and shaped. i said that he was very reluctant to have it cut but that I had convinced him it needed attention. "Oh, yes," she agreed. "All men are like that."

My boyfriend, a calm, sweet, polite man in his fifties, told Jennie that he no longer liked short hair. He showed her his old driver's licence photo, saying that was NOT how he wanted his hair. He quietly urged her just take her time, cut the hair a bit at a time. He said,"I don't want you to wind up telling me that it will grow back."

Jenny reassured him she wold do just as he instructed,
that the reason his hair had been cut too short in the past was that a clipper had been used but that she would use only a scissor - - whereupon she used that scissor to cut off four inches at once from the back!!

He and I objected, saying that was too much, reiterating the need to go slowly, a bit at a time. Jenny relentless sliced away. The floor grew thick with his hair, while he and I - - both in shock and too polite to stand up and run for our lives, exchanged sick glances.

He has two young adult daughters and is very kind and so kept trying verbally to slow down the holocaust on his
once shoulder-length hair .

Jenny said, "You're going to look very polished, she "assured" him. Then she picked up the clippers and said, "Anyway, it will soon grow in."

We said that we didn't want him polished; we only wanted a trim. "I just have to finish of the hair around your ears," she continued. "Then you will have an age-appropriate hair style."

At that point, I was about to faint!! "Wow! That was exactly the wrong thing to say! You've talked yourself out of a nice tip!)

M boyfriend finally shook his head in defeat and to protect what was left of his hair by shaking off the hand that had Delilah'ed him.

We payed the $27 ransome fee and dashed out of the shop - - our Saturday ruined.

In retrospect, we should have realized by the age of the stylists and the receptionist at the front desk that Deja Vu was a facade of glamor, hiding a bunch of inexperienced minimum wage girls who probably knew how to give only one hair cut

But is it really asking too much that a stylist, young and raw as she may have been, could at least have listened to her customer's request?

How excuse her gross impertinence, assuming that 1: she was the arbiter of what is "polished"; 2) that her customer came there for her to "polish" him?

How excuse the gross superciliousness of her assignment of "age-appropriate" styles?

She should have been fired on the spot. When I called to complain to the owner, he told me he would administer "discipline." I warn all future customers, stay away from JENNY. Stay away from Deja Vu!

P.S. The establishment does not even warrant one star but the website (as user-unfriendly as Deja vue itself)requires a star be chosen in order to post a review.

I was shocked to read SK's review, which just didn't make sense. I too had an experience where my color did not come out to my liking, but everyone went out of their way to correct it and make me happy. I was greeted on the correction day with warmth and smiles. Brook was re-doing my color and John(owner) made a point of stopping by to make sure everything was ok. Brook made sure that we figured out why the color didn't come out right so that we wouldn't have this happen again, and was so great about the whole thing. When leaving, Rachel made a point to comment on how my hair looked so much better, and everyone refused to take the tips that I wanted to give them - refusing to take a dime. John goes out of his way to keep the products that I like in stock for me and has even mailed them to me once when I was out of town and ran out. Deja Vu make getting your hair done a relaxing, soothing experience and they make sure to pamper you with complimentary head massages and hand massages. Everyone goes out of their way to be friendly. I would, and do, recommend them.

I have known Deja Vu Salon since it opened over a decade ago. I am rather shocked to read the previous reviews because my experience there has always been positive. Brook is my stylist and she does an excellent job! She understands what color I want or what type of haircut I need. Also the decor of the salon is Caribbean themed and they also serve Martinis!! I love this place

Wow, I'm surprised by some of these harshly negative reviews of Deja Vu! I'll paint a different picture, and I should note that I do not work for the salon, but I have been a client there for the past year and a half. When I first moved to Delaware County from Center City, I tried several salons near my home in Swarthmore and was dissatisfied with all of them. In general, they were overpriced with under skilled and (surprisingly) overbooked stylists. Then I found Deja Vu in Media. I was scheduled with Amanda who had been on the job only a few weeks then. I was so pleased to get such a great cut for, at that time, only $35. Amanda was really friendly, down to earth, and professional for a 20 year old kid (at least, to me) who had just graduated beauty school. I've been back many times, and Amanda has given me consistently great cuts and service (and I'm not one of those people who comes in just for a trim. I'm one of those who shows up every 3 mos. with a photo from a magazine wanting a complete hair makeover! Amanda always delivers.) I've also had nothing but pleasant exchanges with Rachel at the front desk who appears very professional to me--nothing like a bar bruiser (?!) The one reviewer had a point about them pushing the overpriced products on you, but that's been the case at every salon I've been to. Also, I was disappointed to see the price of Amanda's cuts go up to what I paid in the city--around $60. But I get a lot more service for that price at Deja Vu than I did in the city. In short, I will keep coming back to Deja Vu and I wholly recommend them to others. In fact, I have an appointment with Amanda tomorrow morning, and I'm greatly looking forward to a hot new do for spring!

Pros: Amanda gives great cuts and is super friendly

Cons: Price of cuts has gone up significantly

I think the owner, Jonathan, does a good color job, sometimes even excellent. Amanda is new and I was not thrilled with her cut -- ok, but not great. Also not as polished as she might be, but ok. There's too much pressure to buy their products, which I think is all vastly overpriced.

Overall, it's OK, but for that amount of money, it should be awesome!
For cuts, I like Wanda at Hair Stop for about 1/4 the price, but for color, I will continue to use them.

BEWARE OF DEJA VU. Amanda is NOT a top notch stylist and you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED if you go there! She obviously needs more education/training in hair design (and manners)! She cut & colored my hair and it has taken 5 months to grow out to correct what she did wrong! She and Rachel (the front desk person) are both bullies and Rachel has NO CLASS and exhibited NO PROFESSIONALISM. (I could see her starting a bar room brawl... I think you get the point what kind of women these two are.) John, the owner DID NOT make me "feel like family" but quite the contrary! Read the other tellitlikeitis review as IT IS what you will experience if you risk going there and don't like your service and dare ask them for the justice of a redo! This reviewer named DeeDee777 obviously must be a friend of Deja Vu or one of the bullies (employees)? I was told by a friend that salons write their own reviews (lies) to counter negative reviews from customers. How pathetic! So, truly BEWARE of Deja Vu! The truth has been spoken. We all work too hard for our money to waste it at a awful salon that abuses their customers if they dare object to their bad cuts/service. One more thing, I don't think it's a plus that they offer free drinks there. I thought it was tacky to see a bar set-up in a salon! Not at all like the classy, spa like Aveda salons I'm used to. I'm thinking that possibly Amanda could have been drinking some of those free drinks the day she cut my hair? Don't risk it!

I got a relaxing hair/head massage with the shampoo that was divine, followed by a good haircut by a very nice hairdresser (though my hair was a bit big). I was also graced with a wonderful hand massage during the cut which was so appreciated.
I felt that they were perfectly professional and very speedy as well.

I must return a comment to tellitlikeitis2008...are you sure you went to DejaVu in Media, PA??? I have never been treated so nice in a salon!! Rachael is FIRST class and will try her best to accomodate your every need!! Amanda is top notch...she's always pleasant and is up on the latest styles and techniques. John, the owner...he's the best; he always makes you feel like you're with family!! The entire DejaVu staff is friendly and always tries to make your experience a pleasant one. Maybe you were in a bad mood that day?? Or maybe you just have bad hair.

Deja Vue is ANYTHING BUT rude- on the contrary, they are the most accomodating salon I have ever been to--maybe sk is a new customer that is not happy anyway? You are always treated like a queen at Deja Vue--- They recently did my hair for my daughter's wedding- I walked in a nervous wreck and walked out a star! John did my color the week before- perfect! Megan did my style- which stayed in all evening on a rainy day-perfect! Rachel did my makeup- which was natural and stayed with me all evening -perfect! I have never received so many compliments with people asking me where I went to get this done--Deja Vue of course! I will continue to send them clients.

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and I have well water. I had a terrible problem with my blond hair turning red, and I did not attribute it to my well water. I did not know what was happening to my hair, but it was very noticeable and embarrassing. One visit to Dejavu and John, the owner, knew what the problem was. They worked with me for many months to get the red out of my hair. It was from a high consentration of clay and sulfer in my water that turned my hair red. Since John was able to identify the problem, I have had a whole house treatment system installed and my hair is finally back to it's original color. Never to be red again! I have never had a bad experience at this salon. Everyone is so kind and accommodating. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like you are the most important customer of the day. Always asking if they can get something. A drink, or a free hand massage, a magazine to read while you are processing. I have reccommened this salon to many of my friends who are now regular customers. I have traveled around the world and have visited many salons, and I am thrilled that the one I liked the best is right in my backyard! If you want to feel like a princess for an hour or two, make an appointment, I promise you won't be disappointed!

I just had to take a moment to dispute the comments of the posted review before me. I read it and it's such a misrepresentation of who they are and what they do!!! I love deja vu salon!! I have been a client there since they opened their doors in 1996 and since that moment until now I have had countless compliaments on my color and cut from my family, friends and even complete strangers!!
The ENTIRE staff is sweet and friendly and down to earth. Rachel, who manages the entire salon couldn't be more kind or accomodating; Amanda always has a smile on her face and gives an amazing hair cut; and John always has a moment to listen to his guests and does BEAUTIFUL hair color. So i guess my best advice to all those reading is consider that this salon has been open for 12 years, has been so busy that they moved into a bigger space and has won awards for their hair skills and outstanding customer service so they must be doing something right!! I personally thnk there is something wrong with that woman cause EVERYTHING is right at deja vu!!

Pros: free hand massages, margharitas and make up touch ups

Cons: not a thing

.

Horrible Customer Service & Bad Cuts/Haircolor! The front desk employee named Rachel is extremely confrontational and basically has no business sense or class! The atmosphere & service is not at all like a typical Aveda salon, so don't be fooled by the Aveda name, as I was. I had my haircut/color done by Amanda who did not cut or color my hair correctly (cut layers throughout my hair when I asked her not to, etc. and then several sections of overgrowth were left uncolored). I made a complaint and was told that it would be fully corrected and that there would not be a problem requesting another stylist. However, when I arrived to have my hair corrected, it was obvious that the staff was going out of their way to make me feel uncomfortable for making the complaint, as I was treated very rudely. (Think of the girls in the movie: Mean Girls.) I was left standing for quite a while without any acknowledgment from the staff (although several of them were standing at the front of the salon when I arrived and looked directly at me but did not utter a word of hello but just stared and turned around). I know this sounds really bizarre and believe me it was! When Rachel finally came over she was very standoffish. She eventually brought me over to John (owner) to have my hair color corrected. I saw Amanda and attempted to say hello but she did not say hello and stormed by me then and several times throughout the time I was there! I mentioned her behavior to John (owner) but he laughed it off. I wasn't laughing though and felt extremely uncomfortable and humiliated having to endure that. He attempted to color correct my hair but the results were still far from great and some sections turned orange, others were still left with overgrowth uncolored! I couldn't believe it but I dared not mention it to him in light of what I had experienced there already! I just wanted to get out of there! In any case, after the color, John brought me over to another stylist to re-do the cut. She said she couldn't do much to fix it & said that the best thing to do with my hair was to grow it out, so she only trimmed it. So, I was left with the same bad haircut, bad color and damaged hair to last the entire summer! As I was leaving, again they were all just staring at me, obviously trying to achieve their goal to make me feel more uncomfortable, which they did! (It was more than obvious that the only reason the salon even agreed to re-do my hair was so that I wouldn't make a complaint against them because I was obviously the victim of backlash for making the complaint.) This was the most bizarre and uncomfortable experience I've ever had in a salon in my life! I spent $150 +$20 for a tip +$50 more on products) to give them my business, only to receive abusive treatment and to be left with an awful cut and color for the rest of the summer! Their prices are high but their skill set is very low and their customer service is awful. If you prefer to go to a salon where the stylists are professional, courteous, ethical, talented (by knowing how to cut/color hair correctly), Deja Vu would not be for you. However, if you want to waste your time and hard earned money as I did and pay top dollar and risk being at their mercy to be subjected to their abuse and tirades, go right ahead and risk it and call Deja Vu.

Pros: No Pros

Cons: Salon was horrible on every level! Bad Service, high prices!

I was going to this salon for a haircut and color. The staff were pretty friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I first met with my "master" colorist, Jonathan, who asked one or two questions and didn't have the greatest social interaction. He didn't smile and he looked a bit rushed. He brought out some hair color samples to help me better choose a color, which at the time I appreciated. After mixing the color, he was working it through my hair when it ran out (my hair is thick and this always happens) so he said he would be right back with more. He did come back rather quickly, but instead of finishing the job he had me go and sit at the shampoo chair and the shampoo girl finished applying the color!! I did not pay top dollar for a master colorist so the shampoo girl could finish the color job. I thought this was highly unprofessional and showed a sense of disregard. Jonathan never even came back over to me to be sure it was done correctly and he never checked back with me later to see how the color came out. Next, I met with my stylist, Amanda, who was very friendly and professional and she gave me a great cut. At the salon, my cut & color looked pretty good (bad lighting I guess) as the next night after I showered I noticed that there were tons of spots missing color and it looked like someone dumped red kool-aid on my hair. The color wasn't even around my hair Iine. I was so disappointed and I haven't worn my hair down since getting it done. This experience would have been okay if it wasn't for Jonathan. His color job was horrible and it made Amanda's cut look less than great. I would NOT reccomend going to this salon if your getting color done and they tell you that Jonathan is doing it.

Pros: Atmosphere and they offer free hand massages

Cons: Jonathan and parking

You know how sometimes you go to a high-end salon and you feel like you don't make enough money to be there? Sometimes the atmosphere can be snotty in the upscale establishments. NOT HERE! Everyone I met was friendly and down-to-earth. The color specialist and stylist both spent alot of time making sure I got exactly what I wanted and I felt like I was on a mini-vacation! They give a complementary Aveda hand massage, offer drinks and magazines and treat you like royalty. And the prices were extremely reasonable for all this exceptional service. Plus Media is a great town and Deja Vu is in a great spot...near restaurants and shopping. And they offer massage, waxing, etc. I will be a customer for life! :)

Deja vu Salon and Spa is a great place to get your hair styled. The staff is super and bend over backwards to make your visit a pleasant one. Deja vu Salon and Spa also has an Aveda shop in the salon, so you can pick up just about any Aveda product available.
