Everytime I am around south street I meet friends here. I can sit relax and have good coffee. The counter girls have the most nasty additudes. I went in yesterday around 6 pm ordered a coffee for someone else. I never use sugar or milk I am more of a tea n honey drinker. I then ask her for milk and she has the aldacity to give me a disgusting additude because that's not a question I should ask in a coffee shop. Then stares me down. It took all of me not throw my coffee on her and take my tip back. I will never be comfortable going there again nor would I support any one who thinks they can behave and treat people bad. I rather go corporate and i don't even shop at acme or Walmart.

You can't sit in a coffee shop for ten minutes without buying something. It's crowded. Seats are hard to come by and your drink rents your seat for you. There's nothing rude about waiting for your people with a cup of coffee. YOU LIVE IN

I regret to write a review like this, and it is my first time doing so.

I just left the Java location on 4th and South after being badgered by a barista if i was ready to order a drink. A common place to meet associates and friends, I was waiting in the back room for a friend to arrive and was getting myself settled in to do some business. I was not there a mere 10 minutes before being asked numerous times if my friend was coming soon, and that I had to order then and there just to stay in the location. ...of course, not wanting to be rude and order before my friends arrived, i was waiting to order my drink. Was I to stand outside twirling my thumbs in wait, or can I simply sit down??

I live a stones throw away from their 2nd and Christian location and go there everyday for my coffee, well, went there for my coffee. I will never again visit either location. It does my no pride to write such a review, but the lack of respect shown was incredulous

Pros: Was a great place to go

Cons: You can only stand so much

Philadelphia Java Company is the best choice for coffee down on South Street.

Really excellent espresso

Good place to sit back and read or get some work done - much quieter then other coffee shops in Philly.

This is a great neighborhood hang out for weekend coffee. It is spacious, with lots of tables. Free internet access. the coffee and food is delicious. More than typical coffee house fare. There is also a nice magazine selection.

All year round I found the most satisfying drinks to appease the seasons climate n this place. It is quite cozy in the winter with their well made chai latte and cooling great lemonade to take the heat away. Great spacious atmosphere.

It's my favorite coffee shop in the city. First Jerry and Alia are really cool. Second, the tomato mozzarella basil sandwich is better than anywhere else. Third, the coffee's good and they have $1 refills and chocolate covered pretzels for dessert.

Right across from TLA video, Java is on the corner of a lovely little side street that runs parallel right next to South Street. It's a hip little joint that makes really good coffee (the kind of good that you don't have to mask it with cream and sugar if you usually take it straight) and serves light fare for the taking or the sitting. Java has a very friendly (and attractive) crew of workers that are usually busy concentrating on the espresso coming out of the machine just right, but they're not oblivious to customer needs by any means. If anything, the beat of South Street keeps them on their feet.

Extras: local artists usually have their work hanging up on display for sale. also, Java's homemade rice pudding is aMAzing.

Price-wise: the iced coffee is a bit higher than the norm as I can recall (maybe by $.30?)... and perhaps the rest of the menu follows suit, but i consider Java as part of my daily cafe circuit and i've made many a friend there, so it's worth it.

This is a great coffee shop to sit and get work done. Good snacks, good coffee, and free internet. It can be hard to find a comfortable seat to do work, but once you do, you can stay for hours.

This place just oozes charm. The staff is always friendly and personable, the coffee and tea are great, as is the food, and better yet, UNLIKE Cosi and Starbucks - this place has free internet that you can actually use without having to set up an account to pay for it! And, another plus for us laptop users, it has plenty of places to plug your laptop in - always a plus. I too understand the allure of a starbucks latte, but give this place a chance - you won't regret it!

They serve regular coffee that you can get anywhere else. I just like to sit there tho n observe. Nothing more; the place is really comforting.
