Wow what a difference..I grew up in flying hills..I never liked going here under old management..I felt like they were doing me a favor and they were very clicky and uninviting...The new management has put some money into remodeling..My girlfriend and I ate out side on the new deck..Service was friendly, and professional. I had stuff mushrooms..made to perfection. I had to go back a week later to get them again...The new wine list is 100 times better than what they use to have. It looks like they put some time into making a nice wine list for all wine pallets...Their Martini's need some work..but that could be just the bartenders knowledge...My girlfriend wanted a chocolate Martini, or a French Martini..The bartender had to ask us what was in them...a little disappointing...Over all I would give this 4 stars...The view is beautiful..They had entertainment in the bar at night which was fun..I wish they had some younger acoustic acts...Yes, it is Worth The Trip!!!
I was surprised when I read the previous review about the quality of sushi. The new management has the same person making the sushi as the old management. Anyway, I felt the the new management was nothing but pleasant and the atmosphere is a breath of fresh air considering how outdated it looked before. It was nice to feel like I was welcome in the restaurant which was definitely not the case with the previous owners.
Under new management, the menu has become bland, and the quality of food has diminished significantly. The sushi, which used to be excellent for the region, was of poor quality and made with poor skill. The entree's were bland, and tasted as though they were cooked earlier, and simply reheated. The service was decent, but the overall experience, especially juxtaposed to the previous management, was extremely disappointing. We will not be returning.
I live in Flying Hills and I love the Bistro on the Green. I have no idea what the first reviewer was talking about when he said the food was awful! I eat in this restaurant atleast once a week and it has always been a pleasure. The food is always good and the atmoshpere is relaxing and somewhat elegant. The service is great too. After your meal I recommend stopping in the lounge for a cocktail!
I live in Flying Hills. I want this place to be good. I have been here maybe 4 or 5 times the past 5 years.
But....... give it up. Bistro on the Green is bad beyond belief. Forget that you think you are in a time warp and it's 1974. Forget that there is really no one there but you and 2 other tables.
I gave up on the traditional menu long ago. The duck looked and tasted like boiled hot dogs and kept me up all night drinking water and hoping that my heart palpitations would not send me to the hospital.
They had some kind of croquettes appetizer that looked very interesting but turned out to be something unidentifiable on my plate burned to a crisp.
The sushi here, despite all the other bad food, was always good. It was as if there must be a different chef preparing sushi. But last time I was there was the last straw. The sushi was just simply "weird." I have eaten sushi fairly often in my life. But somehow they invented a menu by which everything had to be explained. I had no idea what I was ordering and what I got was just simply awful. I can only assume that the person who knew something about sushi left this place because the rest of the food was so bad.
It?s rare that I leave a restaurant angry.
Tear down the building.
I highly recommend this restaurant. Located in flying hills overlooking the golf course this is one of the best hidden secrets. My husband and I enjoy eating good food and most times if we want a good restaurant we will drive to Philadelphia as Berks county's restaurant selection is very limited.
This restaurant is cozy and romantic with great service. Their food ranges in all different styles, from asian, to steaks, seafood and sushi. Everything I have tried I have loved. My favorite is the shrimp wrapped in bacon and the sauce is to die for. We really enjoy eating at this restaurant and enjoy the atmosphere. The prices are a little more then a chain restaurant but it is so worth it!!! Absoultely delicious!!!!
