I found this one early saturday morning, while looking for place to eat breakfast. After about 30 minutes of watching just about everyone in town going in the store..It had to be everyone else favorite place too. egg tarts, red bean buns and sesame balls for breakfast ..yum...Just be sure you get there before the red dragons ;-)

Pros: best coffee in town too

Cons: none

They have awesome buns. I always loved their hot dog buns. They are cheap and try to stay that way even when all of the other bakeries raise their prices. I have been getting food there for a long time.

Apparently my review needs more words, but i don't really have anything more to describe how delicious these are. period. and where else can you get delicious huge croissants for under a dollar!?

I'm officially changing the saying to "like a kid in a PASTRY shop". This place is amazing. If you have an adventurous palate, and you like cheap eats, you're definitely about to start a love affair with KC's.
Hands down, the best offering there is the Red Bean Pineapple Bun. Butter cream is a close second, if you're better than I am at keeping a clear conscience while devouring huge mouthfuls of pure, fluffy honey-sweet butter.
It might creep you out to walk into a pastry shop and order a chive and pork bun, but don't let that stop you. It's perfectly okay to eat the bun at room-temperature, but if it makes you feel better, take it home and pop it in the oven. My mouth is watering just THINKING about it.
And they're CHEAP. You can walk into the bakery with a 5 dollar bill, buy a back of goodies, and walk out with change jingling in your pocket.
And since it's so cheap, take a while to get to know the different flavors. They bake with a lot of "bean pastes" which may sound strange, but are quite delicious. Try the red bean, get hooked, and then test the other ones out.
And no trip to KC's is complete unless you also snag a chilled mango juice-box to wash it all down...
*droooool*!!!
And if you show up to satisfy a craving for some custard buns and they're all out, run around the corner to the one on 11th street and try your luck there.
Either way, C's is a Philly gem!

Pros: Pineapple Red bean!!

Cons: Non-Asians may be weirded out by the idea of bean-filled pastries...but they're freakin delish!

There are several locations for KC Pastries located within Philly Chinatown.

KC Pastries offers a nice selection of baked/steamed buns and fillings. The roast pork (cha siu ba) and the hot dog buns are must-trys! At 60 cents each, you really can't go wrong. Their boba (ice-blended fruit smoothies with tapioca balls) is probably one of the better ones in Philly Chinatown.

The only downfall is the lack of understanding English. I tried to order some roast pork buns (cha siu ba) but they thought I said something else. I didn't realize until I opened the box after getting home... so I ended up with some steamed buns of a different variety.

PROS: Cheap, fast
CONS: lack of english speaking

KC Pastries is so much more than the run of mill bakery. They do offer great baked goods. Like pastries tarts and cakes. THe prices are cheap so you can get a little of everything. They also offer great shakes which make this bakery stand out. They are like none other shake i have ever had. Great staff too very jovial.

I like this bakery because of their baked goods. The apricot basket cake is my favorite. And the price, at only 60 cents per cake and around $1-2 for different items, is a steal! The cakes here are a bit more healthful than those at other bakeries, as they put less cream and use thinner chocolate layers. (Great if you are on a diet and want a treat!) You can even buy rolls and croissants stuffed with hotdogs, and other fillings! Yummy! KCs Pastries specializes in European style baked goods. They offer mousse, swiss rolls filled with creme, and all sorts of treats. If you visit this store, I would definitely try the "bubble" shakes! They are full of fruit and tapioca bubbles, and taste great! The shakes really make this store special. Try them sometime!
